Mine doesn't have the ground spring either! Been running it with out it. Didn't know until your video that it is supposed to have one!. In place of the spring I just put extra lubricant works just fine.

I once bought that engine, in filthy rusted pieces, and its set of red striped passenger cars for $10. After full disassembly, cleaning, and rebuilding, it turned into a beautiful runner. The silver paint on your friend's engine looks incredibly good. (Mine did not, ha!)

I solder a high flex wire from the bottom plate to the back of the relay to prevent the plate from not making contact

have a postwar New York Central F3 train from 1953. The horn keeps getting stuck and the pitch is always getting low and high. Is there a way to solve this issue to get it back to its original state? Im using modern day tracks with a power box. Should I use the original postwar track and controller? I dont know that to do.

I have one of these 2328 Burlington GP-7 S. Mine runs good but not a good as yours. Your paint looks a lot better than mine as well. Great how to video I may add.

Same two issues with my 2338 Milwaukee Road GP7 (post war) missing the ground spring, and same issue as this horn. Original wires, I did notice a green wire coming from e-unit is not connected to anything. I am not sure where this goes, as the blue and yellow wires are connected to the motor. Guess I may need a voltage meter, to test as video shows... Seems the only difference between locomotive in video and mine, is different color chassis frame

The horn sounds fine after adjustment. The postwar horns were considered state of the art from the late 1940's through 1966...certainly sound better than MPC electronic horns. I disagree with your remark that the horn you repaired is "kind of annoying." It's pure postwar ... that's what it is supposed to sound like.

After watching this video I think maybe you can help me with my MPC Lionel Virginian 8659 rectifier. Given its manufacture date of about 1974 it is not in Greenberg's repair guide and I cannot find a schematic of the motor and Lionel support did not have one either. I bought it NIB from Ebay about a month ago. It ran fine for a very short time and then wheels started to slip. It has traction tires. Despite being unused the tires were a little cracked from age so I replace them. In order to do so I had to remove the truck which meant the motor was then dismounted. I cannot get it back together!!!! The spring that you show in this video is similar to the one in this assembly but I could have sworn this one was between the chassis and the motor. I cannot get the motor to reengage with the gear in the truck. Just won't work. I tried it with the spring between the truck and the chassis too but no difference. Is there anything you can tell me that might help? Big ask, I know. Thank you. I do love your videos!

Hi Mark, I have the MPC book that should cover this. I’ll lock when I get home later tonight. Dave

@@daveclarklumber Thanks Dave! I did not know there was an MPC era version of the repair guide. Just looked it up on Amazon. Must be the Fundimensions-Lionel guide?

@@markharrison3445 Hi Mark, The book I referred to is actually 1977-1992 Modern Era so may not help. Page 80-81 does have a parts diagram for the Rectifier. Not sure if it will help? Dave

@@daveclarklumber Thanks Dave. Guess I will take it to get repaired. This is what I get for buying trains over 40 years old and this one is my "newest".
