Well done review!! You did a nice rebuild on it and made it a great runner. I’m also a fan of C&O and Chessie System. They had some beautiful paint schemes over the years.

I've got a 624 on my fleet. It's been a great engine for us, and luckily came in excellent condition. Couldn't ask for a better engine
@NixCrossing3 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome! I love these engines. Whoever had my engine before me definitely tried to run it aground lol.
@sudriansignalman93873 жыл бұрын
@@NixCrossing I've seen that before lol! Luckily the person who owned mine took extremely great care of his childhood trains. He eventually went into modern stuff, and the family sold all his stuff when he died at auction. I also managed to get a set of 2500 coaches at the same time, and they look brand new!

Nice video, nick. I bought the AT&SF bell ringer version and it is superb. Smooth, quiet. My favorite Lionel engines: this switcher, 2321 Trainmaster, and 671 steam turbines. All are smooth and absolute bullets. Easy to service, too
@NixCrossing2 жыл бұрын
Those are all excellent pieces! The bells are so hard to find because the kids would annoy the parents with them and the bells would be removed lol. 🚂💨 there’s something magical about the ole Lionel. Thanks so much for watching!

I live the N5C porthole cabooses too, but know it was a Pennsylvania RR design and the only roads to actually run them were the Pennsy, The PC and Conrail. I used to have a picture of one in Conrail blue. Nice video!

Those are my favorite cabeese of the PRR. Especially when they added the radio antennas to the roof
@richardsobieck9660 Жыл бұрын
@@NixCrossing yes I love em too. Great design and Lionel did a great job when they made the dies. And as in the case of the GG1, they took an iconic piece of equipment and made it more popular with people who never saw one.

To add a little more light on magna traction,it first appeared as early 1950 on top of the line locomotives and was hit immediately with the buying public,it not only helped keep wheels on the track but to me at least it meant longer trains.

Love the magma-traction as well! I’ve only had a few issues with it over the years. 🚂💨 thanks for the comment!

Great little engine, and nice job reviewing it. It's a survivor! I love the new Car of the Week segment. Chessie is one of my favorite railroads, and I love that caboose. I don't see many with the round windows, but I always loved that style.
@NixCrossing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! 😁Usually those old Lionel engines never die. They are also fun to repair / put them back together. I thought I’d change it up lol I have 2 other Chessie “ cabeese “ that’ll definitely be on the channel. I always thought the round windows made it look like a ship.

Your comment about the streetlight,many postwar accessories such as those lightS are carry overs from prewar standard gauge.Lionel was not to concerned with scale consistency, with their toy trains so you have large street lights,large crossing gates,etc and the public didn't seem to notice,toys are toys and the kids didn't care.
@andy41417 Жыл бұрын
Had to disconnect the coil couplers as the Ross curved on curve switches triggered them. Good motor is more quiet and slower runner than the later 600 switchers. Some frames bowed so check along shell frame line of contact.
@NixCrossing Жыл бұрын
You know what, I have a similar issue while using my MTH RealTrax system on the main layout. I think the switch frogs sometimes interact with it. I might put heat shrink over them so they can’t open and so it doesn’t damage the couplers

Hey nick nice engine have you ever thought about adding smoke unit it
@NixCrossing Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Probably not with this one because of the plastic. The early 50s plastic hates any type of heat.

I believe this was $75 , but it did not run and was in “poor” condition. These engines are easily fixed and parts are available
