Lionel Alco Santa Fe Repainted with Custom Decals by Bob's Workshop

I found a cheap Lionel Alco shell on Ebay. It was battered and beaten and in need of attention. I decided to make a unique version that's not in red or blue. I used my inkjet printer to create custom decals to compliment the fresh paint. Join me on this little train's journey to rejuvenation. Cheers!

Your projects are very inspiring. I like the high quality without a lot of money. Most forget these are just toys. Not priceless collectibles. Keep up the do it yourself that anybody can tackle type projects. It’s really no different than building a model car or airplane. This is a hobby/toys that has a lot of satisfaction in doing it one’s self. Sure beats purchasing the high dollar scale stuff which in all likelihood is made in china.

I recall an article many years ago in Model Railroader magazine where the author used a drafting circle template on a sheet of waxed paper to make headlight lenses. The author poured C A cement into the desired diameter circle & let it harden.

Probably far easier today would be to use clear UV resin that’s sold for hobby 3D printers. I modified a cheap flashlight which used 5mm LEDs, replacing them with UV LEDs. Now I can make things like windows and headlights by pouring in a little resin and then hardening it with my UV flashlight.

I used Pages on my Mac but I think you could use Microsoft Word as well. And I’ve seen some people who use Photoshop. Most of my images just come from the internet and I do lines and lettering in Pages.
