We will not leave the EU this time, that is increasingly clear - but the important fight will be to keep the pathway to exit opened. @WeirdPlanet108 - The EU is a sinking ship, economically, morally and culturally. The EU Grandmaster Soros even says so. It is so far in debt it cannot get out and if the UK leaves it has no chance as the UK is worth 19 of the smaller members economically. May and the rest of the EU parasites in the so-called Parliament, more like an off-shore office of the EU in reality, want to help save the EU by keeping the UK on the ship. Our politicians are literally agreeing to a suicide pact to try and keep their precious lifestyles and perks without any responsibility. I would be in favour of a military coup by the British Armed Forces until we can get rid of the lot of these traitorous parasites. If Brexit with No Deal does not happen then they have doomed us to drown in EU bullshit and neo-liberal communism whilst being sucked into an economic black hole!!

I am an artist and free thinker so you're not alone ! The reaction of Leavers has much to do with indigence at being told 'no' followed by a massive virtue signaling opportunity and finally a collective refusal to acknowledge that reality is not 'theirs' to define. My work often explores ideas of cultural expression and identity, one project was so loved by the elites and Guardian readers that the Government Art Collection tried to aquire it. When I revealed the work was inspired by popular Patriotism and National Pride they recoiled, then laughed at my 'joke' and continued to extol its progressive virtues. There's no telling them ! Lol

I voted Remain (somewhat reluctantly) and when Leave won I was pretty shell-shocked. But once I got over the shock I realise what a momentous result it really was. We'd been told that leaving was racist, fascist, a little Englander mentality going against the Brave New World of globalised capitalism and open borders, it was going to crush us economically, that it would be apocalyptic. The people voted out anyway. Freedom and self determination is always worth it. But I said then "they won't let it happen". Because to Remain is the choice of the elites, the bankers, the oligarchs and the metropolitan chattering classes, they are so self righteous in their 'wokeness' they can't conceive that ordinary people just want to be British and go their own way. They will not let it happen. Just like they didn't let it happen in France, Holland and Ireland. How dare we mess with their plans for one European government with massive power concentrated in even fewer hands!

For Mrs. Shriver: With regards to your comments about the NY Times, I think it is accurate to say that most Americans who can think have long since given up subscriptions to the NY Times. In fact, there are many of us who refer to that publication as "a former newspaper". I would suggest that you cease caring about what the NY Times says, or the Washington Post, and just about all US newspapers with the exception of the Wall Street Journal and the Investors' News Daily. They still have a lot of talent which is generally balanced. As for our view of Brexit, I think you would find that we are very sympathetic to the Leavers' points of view, and believe that the UK would do just fine under WTO rules.

Avenarius, You have put into words that which I was struggling to do in my mind. 'feel that our fellow countrymen have undergone some sort of mass hypnosis session to which we weren't invited''..That is it exactly It applies to Brexit and the inability to see the threat of Isislam to this country. There is no real rage at Brunei's total adhereance to Sharia Law and total blindness to the possibility that our country will follow when Muslims become a majority which is inevitable. I say that not because I am averse to having people from different countries in my country, but a genuine fear of the morally bankrupt ideology that has the potential to completely disrupt our lives. I envisage immense suffering for people who do not follow the strict 2 gender demands of Islam, unmarried couples, unmarried mothers, suppression of speech, being told what to think, all pubs closed down, state sanctioned animal cruelty, strict control of entertainments The list goes on and on and people cannot believe that this is a tiny remote possibility......Their hypnosis is terrfying me.

Populism is just a word for the rebellion against captured left wing institutions. Free speech is populist. Limited immigration is populist. National identity is populist. Left wing populists have institutional support, so the label seems to be used in a less derogatory manner: "The left wing populist government is enacting popular policies to help the people; the right wing populist government is enacting the worst impulses of the revolting peasants".

As always, a real encouragement, to hear balanced and intelligent analysis. It is obviously going to get a whole lot worse, before it gets better, but we have to persist with following through on our belief and the result of the referendum and honour what are the people have decided. Incidentally, the choice of colours for your cushions and the background is, slightly, unfortunate!…..

Membership of the EU is so important to remainers because they see it as a vehicle for their politics: another layer of bureaucracy that enshrines positive rights and the diversity cult. Membership of the EU makes it even harder to maintain the idea of negative liberty and oppose the concept of immigration as a moral good. It allows for the cultural leftism without allowing for the economic leftism that left wing Brexiteers believe in. They see it as a way to ensure we never move towards being a freer country, only a more "diverse and inclusive" one.
@Saddamuel5 жыл бұрын
They love it because it's a nice way to undermine their fellow citizens and any chance of the UK moving towards a traditional American conception of liberty. If the EU prevented any further policing of speech and banned additional restrictions of guns rights as a requirement of membership then we would be reliably informed by the media that this is some kind of proto-fascist tyranny.

Lionel Shriver really needs to understand the ordinary people of the uk north of London we will never give up until we leave the EU no matter how long it takes, finally the British people with the rise of Social Media have the proof they suspected that we need to leave the EU to be able to run our own country regardless of the cost. The reason why we don't like the EU is because it has an unelected group of people making laws that we can not even challenge and is not Democratic.

In all fairness, since the signing of the Lisbon treaty; our government actually signed away the last bastion of power that they had over to the EU. So they've not been governing us for over a decade now! What we're seeing is, in actuality, a reluctance to continue with the facade that they've maintained. From the treaty of Rome onwards, when read in chronological order; each treaty has secretly and incrementally dissolved more and more powers into the EU system, until we have the situation we find ourselves in; where the reality of this is about to come out? In normal circumstances, I feel that a British PM would tell the EU where to go and expose this prolonged act of treason; by our entire establishment! But, in an incredible instance of good fortune for the EU (a little too fortuitous perhaps? But we'll get to that later) we settled on Mrs. May. This was an aggregious and; will soon be seen as, unforgivable mistake by the conservative party; in choice of leadership, but not because she's a remainer? (Of only that was the extent of her unsuitability?) You see Mrs. May has a rather damning skeleton in her closet; that I'm still amazed no one is talking about, or to my knowledge has even stumbled upon? That being her husband Phillip May! Not only have several of the civil servants, Cabinet members and MP's that have quit in the past 2 years; expressed concern over Phillip May's involvement with the brexit process. All of which going as far to say, that Mr. May would scupper any headway made with Brexit they made. But his decision overruled anyone elses in the eyes of the PM. Then we have his involvement with the Miller's (everyone should remember Gina Miller) and their financial consulting firm that Gina and her husband ran (also why I was lead to Phillip May) which raised another red flag! But lastly, we have his involvement with Deutsche Bank, as the chair of their investment advisory committee (fairly innocuous job title you may think? Take it from me, it isn't!) and his sudden resignation a decade ago, right when the German Mortgage crisis came to light the first time; only to be quickly swept under the carpet until last year when it came up again? By now, I'm assuming; you're wondering, what's your point? Well add all these factors together, along with the factor of Phillip May's behaviour and something sinister begins to loom from the fog. (What follows is speculation, based on the facts described above) I feel that Phillip May, very likely could've caused Deutsche Bank's mortgage crisis! Doing a sort of Nick Leason-esque cock up (as it were) on a massive scale. This was covered up by the EU and sat on, until they got all their Christmases at once and Ther-aitor May became PM. Since that time the EU has been able to blackmail her, through her husband; effectively neutering her of any power she may've had? This would explain her completely bizarre decisions, her reluctance to shift on a deal; that she has failed to put through parliament, on 3 occasions now? It also explains her husband's erratic behaviour and her willingness to capitulate to him on every occasion. Like I said this is just a theory, but I really do think someone should be looking into Phillip May; as I feel his presence in cabinet meetings and his influence, should be brought into question?

Nick Clegg said whilst debating Farage that ' when travelling round Europe you could upload your holiday pictures without incuring roaming mobile charges', something like that anyway. Another which floored me was a young audience member on a panel show leading up to the vote said that she would remain because of that point Clegg made..Laughable ..
