Lions aren't that smart. I saw a lion video once where the (male) lion had two kills - a hundred metres apart. When he went to one of them, scavengers would start consuming the other one. He'd then dash over to that one, and, guess what, the scavengers would go to the one he'd just left. The idea of pulling one over to the other never occurred to him.

A most unusual hunt by what I suspect is an older, experienced lioness. Although she had cubs to feed, it is still highly unusual for a lone lioness to make two kills in quick succession. I'm wondering if she thought there wasn't enough food there for the three of them on one smallish impala. More typical behavior would be to kill and eat one impala, then kill and eat another. Love the video quality, BTW.

Does everyone see how difficult life can be for a lioness? She shoulders the responsibility to hunt and bring in enough food to feed her whole pride including the cubs and daddy. Daddy's too busy walking the line to protect his prides. My hat's off to her.
@RefinedMale2 жыл бұрын
I know this is late but why does it have to be a competition between both genders? You don't see the lioness complaining and yet here you are projecting your feminist views onto her. And for the record male lions have it much harder if you wanna go down that road, as they are kicked out of the pride at an early age and have to now hunt on their own, while at the same time worry about not infringing on another's territory. Then when they're strong enough, will now start to seek their own pride, as their biological urge requires them to do so. A successful takeover usually requires bruteforce and involves fighting the current male to the point of either killing him or seriously injuring him so that he is driven off. I don't have to explain the rest to you, as I think you know what happens. Let me give you a hint, infanticide. Oh and did I mention that there is a chance he might lose? What I am saying is, don't trivialize the life of lions, from the comforts of your priviledged human existence, pretending like they didn't have to earn their place in the pride. The male has a role to play and that role is to protect his pride and his cubs in order to not be on the receiving end of the the same process he had to do during his takeover, at the hands of another male looking to spread his genes. The cycle is a viscous and brutal one, but one that ensures the survival of the species.
