Yotam Shitrit must resist eating tasty diver tastier fish kabobs
@KetaceanKyle6 жыл бұрын
Actually humans aren't all that tasty to a lot of predators including most sharks. We also have very little nutritional value. Most humans that get bite are usually mistaken for prey and the shark will often spit the human out. If they are eaten its either the shark was really hungry or a tiger shark which has been know to eat small tricycles, other man made objects and well anything it could fit into its mouth.

I saw the original video a long time ago and basically what they are doing in the video is training the sharks to attack the lion fish from BELOW to avoid getting hurt by the spines. Once it’s inside the shark there is no problem with the spines or anything, it gets digested just like anything else the sharks eats. This has been going on for a while and does not effect anything badly. EDIT: The lion fish also aren’t fully dead either, just hurt and bleeding which lures the shark(s) in.

Poison on the other hand you cant eat or drink and if you are wondering if the sharks got hurt while eating the bones don’t worry they are fine sharks have U a shaped stomach and strong stomach acid for dissolving fish bones, and if you are wondering if they get hurt from eating it they don’t because they learned to eat it starting from the head to avoid the spines

Lewis Wright sharks eat a lot of different fish, they wouldn't just focus on eating lion fish. Plus the fish that the lion fish are eating would have a chance to replenish themselves creating more food for the larger fish that the lion fish had been eating while they were babies. Blame the exotic fish retailers for selling such fish. Indeed the love of rare and special fish is an attractive thing both for retailers as well as buyers, but the transactions dont account for the unwise. Instead of destroying the fish when they get to large buyers will set them free, and as a result we get invasive plagues. better off simply making them illegal to such a degree that any dealer will loose their licesnse for owning or selling them permanently!. a harsh enough punishment will deter such sales.
@chadbagwell82526 жыл бұрын
Training them to eat off the end of your spear seems much more likely to have sharks associate any speared fish with food than to go after free swimming lion fish. Increased danger for spearfishing = more bad press for sharks, if a bite occurs. They’re delicious fish. Eat them yourself or shake them off the spear and move on. At least that way the association of people with food on behalf of sharks might be somewhat less direct. Granted, it doesn’t make for as good of viewing on KZbin.
@whyyoumadbro23706 жыл бұрын
Chad Bagwell I think it is meant to give the shark a taste bite. If they continue doing this to other sharks (as long as it’s only ONCE) They can develop a taste for the lion fish.

OK so I have one question remaining. WIth lion fish it is always mentioned that they have a) spines and b) are venomous. So how is no predator eating them affected by the spines and the venom? Genuine question, how do the lion fishes spines not injure the sharks? This seems like a pretty good idea I’m just curious
@johnweir3168 Жыл бұрын
When extended, the spines do ward off a shark, however, is the fish is speared, the shark can bite the lionfish from an angle that the shark doesn't normally get to attack it. When swallowed from the front, the spines fold back along the top of the fish and the shark can swallow it. Similarly, if taken by the tail, the shark can swallow the fish in a way the spines don't sting it. The problem is the lionfish keep its spines pointed toward any predator and its body in a position a shark cannot get to it. I have been diving along the reef in Belize for a few months. There are nurse sharks here that will point out a lionfish to divers in the hopes the diver will spear it and feed it to them. I have had up to 4 nurse sharks follow me on a dive and they will get very excited when they locate a lionfish. They will push the lionfish around, but will not eat it unless it has been speared and they can get a safe angle on it.
@Iguana5k6 жыл бұрын
Wouldnt it be better to drop the dead lionfish from a boat? This way the sharks will harrass every spear fisher they see...
@dreammaker96424 жыл бұрын
Sharks harass spear fisherman either way because they are opportunistic predators. So they’ve learned that the sound of a spear gun = a nice and easy meal. It is their territory and we are guests so can’t really complain. However if the sharks get a taste for the lion fish then you the lion fish will fall back into the chaîne food and balance should be restored.

First off.... Lion fish were introduced to Florida waters because of a hurricane destroying an aquarium in South Florida. Second, lion fish are hunted year round. Each boat can come in with anywhere from 100-200 at a time. We still can't control them. Chances are that shark will die when multiple syringes are lodged in his stomach

The narrator sounds like one of the voices in Fallout 3. lol Cool video, also saw people trying to get groupers and morae eels to add them to their diets.

Sharks have an immunity to poisons. That's why they're perfect for this

Do the poisonous tips of the lionfish hurt/sting the mouth and stomach of sharks after eaten??

I'm missing something, but... is it a case that the sharks don't recognize them since they aren't native and don't realize they are edible? And hand (okay, long pole with big ass spikes) feeding somehow makes the light go off in their brains to 'hey, it's actually food?!" Whatever works to return as much balance to an area, but... sharks aren't known, at least as far as my very very not biologist brains has ever read, as rooters and crevice hunters. Unless the idea is to have divers go digging about and spend time constantly feeding the sharks lionfish they kill for them - and that seems rather dangerous to any divers who DON'T wander the water stick feeding sharks if the sharks have equated divers with pizza delivery drivers. Not a knock, but the whole clip and the others I've been seeing would really be more informative if they explained the actual long term (in quick laymen's terms) the how & whys and not just 'spear invasive pest, feed on stick to sharks, invasive creature partially neutralized'. Individual lion fish hand fed to sharks can't possibly reach the numbers to make even a tiny dent.. so how do they go from A to B (let alone how they plan on making it thru to Z!)?
