Another day of lionfish hunting offshore Pensacola Florida. This was April 2016 approximately 15mi Southwest of Pensacola Pass in 100ft of water. Had a few interested sharks come in to check things out. vimeo.com/175912856

@themudbugjuggler99128 жыл бұрын
Just found your channel and subscribed. Your videos are great. If I lived in Florida, I would do this every weekend. Well done you for being so proactive, and effective, in the removal of this invasive. It would be great if the "proceeds" (the fish) could be given or donated to people in need. Awesome videos, look forward to the next!

Good god the reef is just carpeted in lionfish! So sad :( But it's a great video -- thank you for getting some of them. It seems you go out to spear them quite often and that is awesome of you. I hope you've found a restaurant to buy them or you're able to eat them yourself & share with friends & family.

You should feed some Lion fish to the sharks, encourage them to prey on Lion fish. Helps fix the problem of local predators get a taste for them.

I doubt sharks would willingly eat these lionfish

There's a video of some diver who is trying to teach sharks to eat them. There's another one where they're trying the same thing but with big groupers.

After doing some research, it's good to know that people have produced a more efficient method to hunt and remove this fish. Hopefully with enough interest from hunters, the population could have some hope of being controlled!

You have a big zookeeper XL and another catch bag. Where would I find the one with the fabric and rivets? Did Ali make one custom for you? I'm looking for something that creates less drag when traveling but still holds 40+

If you send him an email, he will be happy to help you out. He has the unit I'm using for sale at his website: www.zkstore.com/product/zookeeper-pro-45-custom/ Expensive but you can pay for it pretty quick by hunting and selling your catch.

@scottcalloway46303 жыл бұрын
Why don't you just net them en mass? What i mean is take a few divers out with a casting net and heard them out into the open water a but and drop the net over them?
@martinchristian5975 жыл бұрын
this method is good but guys you need to come up with small net type or sth like that where you can scoop in all of them or atleast most of them but in the process find a way to get rid of other fish.

What if you just speared them and then left them to die? The sharks came because they smelled blood of the Lionfish. Just spear like 30 of them and let the sharks come. No use in carrying all that extra weight...
@tylerbyrd60113 жыл бұрын
Because they're not good bleeders. look when they get speared not a single drop of blood. If anything cleaning crews like crabs starfish and snails would get to them first before a shark even considers eating the fish

Sharks won't even eat them.
@dreammaker96423 жыл бұрын
They actually do since divers fed them to em... just have to give them a taste for it and they’ll do the rest. Once the sharks realize it’s a potential food source they will prey on them especially seeing how many they are. I know you gonna tell me that Lion fish have venomous spines and I will inform you the sharks don’t care. I’m not 100% sure but I think some reef sharks are immune and either way if venom is infested it does nothing besides being dissolved in gastric acid and as for the spines welp good luck penetrating a shark’s skin with that. And yes you might say that they can get stung from inside the mouth but most reef fishes have spines and sharks don’t seem to be bothered much by them.
