That defence of Ostia was a nail bitter. That was very close! The range units were poorly deployed. You need to keep one infantry unit nearby to support at all times. Never leave your entire range units out in the open without some protection. Anyway it was really really close. Lol. BTW great ball of fire roasting both the enemy and your troops. That was fun to watch though. Great video. Cheers!

''The 'Rape' of the Sabine Women'' - Chapter 1 After Romulus killed his brother Remus, he reigned supreme. The newly found city he ruled, was named after its father: Rome, not Reme. As the frenzy of fratricide faded, a thought arose: over whom did Romulus reign? No one. Rome was a randomly founded city on the river Tiber. Romulus, seeking inhabitants, made Rome into a well-known safe haven: a harbour for the exiled, the rejected, the banished, the unwanted, penniless immigrants and the like. Unfortunately for Romulus, this community turned out to be solely populated by men. For reasons I will not get in to, a population of only men is hard to maintain. At this point, Romulus thought of a ‘brilliant’ scheme: let’s host the Ludi Romani, ‘’the Roman Games’’, and invite our neighbours for some friendly sporting events. The majority of these neighbouring tribes consisted of Sabines, a mountain-tribe to the north of Rome. ''I invite all of my beloved neighbours to a set of spectacular Games in the city of Rome. Come, my friends. Oh, and, bring your women too: they'll love it!'' Something like that. During these Games, the Roman promptly continued to 'rape' the Sabine women. Now, there is a common misunderstanding nowadays. The English-speaking world knows what 'to rape' means. In Latin, however, the verb ''rapio, rapere'' means ‘’capture’’; the Romans didn't immediately start to rape their newly found women. Dei immortales, no. They merely ''captured'' them. After all, the Roman men had other concerns: namely, an angry mob of Sabines was storming towards them. Understandably, the husbands, fathers and relatives of the women were less thrilled about the capture of their women. A battle commenced, arms clashed and blood was spilt. Neither side yielded, as both needed their women to ensure the survival of their tribe. Chaos reigned - but then... from the fog of war, a figure appeared... a woman. Join me next time for the continuation of the story!

You missed a bit, the romans sent messages to their neighbours asking to marry their women, they were scorned everywhere often getting replies such as "marry people (criminals) of your own rank" this was what incited the plot to capture the Sabine women at the Ludi Romani. Also they made the Ludicrous Romani particularly grand to entice the other factions in

Hi Lionheart, keep up the great work. Legion name suggestion - Legio III Praeconum Martis (Legion III the Heralds of Mars). The men of this legion march with the blessing of Mars, the God of War. Mars fills them with unmatched martial prowess and a thirst for victory. Every march that is undertaken by this Legion is filled with hymns to Mars, from the combined voices of the Legion causing the very Earth to shake and the Barbarians to flee in terror. Long Live the Empire!, Long Live Rome, Long Live the Emperor! (please inform me if my translation is incorrect)

Here's the thing with rolling giant balls of fire down a hill, the balls dot stop rolling. So therefore, when using a two pronged attack in hopes of sandwiching the enemy forces be aware that the balls of fire will probably not stop once they collide with the enemy forces so for those soldiers on the opposite side of the balls of fire it was nice fighting with you lol. Either that or wait to charge in until after the balls have stopped rolling lol

Letters from the front - part 3 summary (see the text bellow). Marcus Livius Drusus finally meets Camillus, but gets more than he bargained for when war intensifies and political rivalry threatens to tear the Republic apart. Many thanks to those who provided feedback.
@michanycz71666 жыл бұрын
Letters from the front - part 3 Dearest Mother, I hope this letter finds you well. I apologize for not writing sooner, but it is only now that I got some time to properly gather my thoughts and grab a quill. Please forgive me, I know my writing has been rather hectic and disorganized of late. I wish I had the time and the calm mind to properly apply all the proper forms befitting our name. Were I not a senator, I would probably leave it all behind and go study with the great Pyros of Melitta. Gods willing, when this is all over one day and the man is still alive, I may yet visit him. To the matter at hand. I had been tasked by the Senate with finding Camillus, delivering a number of letters to him, then reporting back. They wanted him to return and defend against the Sabine threat. Fools! It was the knowledge of just how internally divided the Republic was that convinced the Sabines we would be easy pickings. Spurius urged me to ensure that I deliver his letter directly to his brother's hands. Knowing what happened later, I can only imagine the anguish he must have felt. I got a small escort and proceeded to depart when I was summoned to a meeting with a group of Senators from the houses of Licinia and Aemilia. I thought it very irregular, but considering the internal state of the Republic, I did not dare refuse. They made it clear that should the house of Furia falter, their leaders would waste no time and rush to fill the power vacuum. They bid me to consider the future of our family in such potentially volatile circumstances. It seems that the great honour I thought this mission to be could turn into a poisoned chalice at any time. A few days passed. Me and my men were riding through the countryside when we were intercepted by a small party of riders. It turned out that Camillus already knew we were coming. I still do not know how. Our initial meeting could only be described as awkward. The general looked at me and I felt as though I was being pierced through by a Samnite javelin. “They asked you to spy on me, didn't they?” When asked how he knew, he did not answer. “I knew your father” - he said. “They chose you, because they thought I would not suspect a son of my childhood friend.” There was no escaping. Somehow, all the way in the wilderness, this man still knew of everything going on in Roma. I have no love for the Licinia or the Aemilia and provoking a seasoned warrior, even if just half the things they say about him is true, would be stupid. We talked into the night - Camillus warmed up to me as the hours passed. Dawn came and as the Sun rose it seemed blood red. A portent of things to come. We were breaking bread when a scout came. A Volsci army had been spotted in close proximity. A fire flickered in Camillus' eyes and it would terrify Jupiter himself, as it terrified me. “Sound assembly!” - he exclaimed. “We will pay those retches a visit. One they will never forget!” We waited for the Volsci in a small group of hills. Camillus assigned me to one of his cavalry detachments. It was a strange, unsettling feeling, watching those men, enemies though they be, walk past our positions, oblivious to the doom about to befall them. The fight started when our men launched a great many fireballs into the front of the enemy column. At that moment, Camillus dashed forward and we followed. The Volsci were taken entirely off guard and as such it was more of a slaughter than a battle. The cacophony of noises, the smell of blood and sweat as people desperately try to survive. Poets say it is glorious. It is not. Clearly no poet has ever been to battle. I know now why so many soldiers choose to drink themselves into a stupor. I will never be able to un-see the faces of men I killed; many of them - stragglers running for hills did not even offer a resistance. It is a strange state, battle. It really is. It is almost as if one was watching a gladiator fight, except one was both the spectator and the fighter. Few men on our side were lost. The enemy force had been annihilated. As the sun set on the day blood stained field, Camillus summoned me. “You did well. Your father would be proud.” He gave me a handful of letters. When he managed write those, I do not know. One thing was certain, here was a man of prodigious energies. A dangerous man, to be sure, but those are dangerous times and perhaps we need men like that more than anything else. “I want you to go to Ostia” - he said. “The Volsci already have an army in the forest near the town. You must warn our people.” “And you, Sir? Where will you go? What of the Sabines? What of of Roma? Forgive me, I do not understand!” “You must trust me, young Marcus. Go to Ostia. Help defend it. Then go to Roma with my letters. I promise, I will meet you soon enough. Then I will explain everything.” I was about to depart when he gave me another letter - to you, Mother. I had no idea the two of you knew each other. You must tell me all about that when I can finally go home. Camillus provided me with guides and with their help, we rushed towards Ostia. On our way there we saw a couple of abandoned Volsci camps. A silent testimony of the size of their force. We rode into the settlement as a religious festival to Neptune was about to start. I demanded to see the magistrate, but it turned out, he was in Rome. It was at that moment that I heard Father's voice in my head. “Go on, my son! You are a man of Rome.” Strange, I wish I could remember him more clearly. Damned Gauls, They robbed us of him when he still had so many years before him. I had my men round up the town watch and raise the citizenry. Thankfully, a number of veterans of our previous war with the Veii had taken residence in Ostia, so at least we had someone who knew what they were doing. One of them, an old man by the name of Silanus, kindly offered to advise me. By the time, the magistrate arrived, we had set up a defensive perimeter around the city centre. Neptune blessed us with two ships of our fleet coming into the port that day, so we had additional men to put as a reserve. I yielded the command to the magistrate who chose to fight with his sons in one of the swordsmen units. I took my men, to be a part of the reserve force, as our horses were spent and they would be too exhausted to be of any use in a fight. Sun was setting when we heard the massive rattling sound of the enemy horde. Numerous as they were, they were ill disciplined and chaotic. Our slingers had no trouble picking them off as they approached the town centre. I watched from the ship's mast as their army clutched our men in its grip. I thought, if only we could flank them, surely, we could rout the unruly bastards. We landed on the beach beyond the town and rushed to hit the enemy from behind. Once again, it was an unreal experience. I felt possessed, almost beside myself, as we drove our swords into their warm, unsuspecting bodies. Little by little, skirmish by skirmish, we made our way towards the town square where the main battle was reaching its climax. We charged as our men, noticed us and cheered us on. Yet, the enemy held on. We charged again, our swords hungry for blood, and again. At one point, I thought the townsmen would break, but they held on. It was the Volsci who eventually crumbled under our repeated onslaught. “Hunt them down!” I shouted. “Hunt them down and make them pay! Send them screaming to the afterlife.” I do not believe there was one inch of me not dripping with blood by nightfall. The next morning we buried our dead and had the few Volsci who were still alive bury theirs in the ditch outside the town. I went to the see to wash myself, but even the water reeked of death. When I returned I was invited to the magistrate's house to share a meal with him. When we retired to his study, he whispered: “I know who you are, young master. I have urgent news for you.” It was then that I learnt that Veii was under siege by the Sabines, Spurius having moved to garrison the city in the nick of time. “What will you do? The senators are waiting for the Furia to fail.” “Even if it means the capture of the Roman cities? Slavery of our women and children?” - I asked. “They are counting on it.” “What would you do?” “Stay with us for another day. We will get some rest, patch up our boys and then a half of our fighting men will go with you.” “Do you really believe they would dare harm me? I am Marcus Livius Drusus. My family dates back...” “They know who you are, Senator. I know who you are. You helped save my town, my wife, my daughters, my friends. I don't have to believe. I know.” He pulled a piece of parchment with the seal of the Senate. I trembled as I read. “Marcus Livius Drusus is to be seized and brought back before the Senate to answer the charges of conspiracy against the Republic.” “My name is Lucius Didius.” The magistrate said. “I served under your father. I could not save him. Let me try and save you.” There is so much about Father I do not know. It seems there are men whose lives he touched in every corner of the Republic. Why have the Gods let him perish so young? I grieve, I feel so inadequate, so young and inexperienced when compared to him. And yet, I am his son. Gods willing, I shall make him and you proud one day. That is all for now, dear Mother. I trust that with Juno's good graces, I shall see you very soon. Marcus

I am sorry if this sounds stupid but: Have CA made a big deal about reusing so much of the rome total war 1 sound track or is lionheart using his own playlist or something? It just seems really cruddy of CA to just reuse so much of rtw 1 sound design, if that is what they are doing, rather than making some new stuff unless it is a marketing thing in which case it is just kind of lazy

knughaxTheOne I clearly said at the start of part 1 that I was using the Rome 1 music mod for this series! CA created a full new soundtrack for Rome 2 when they released the game. But for me and many others the Rome 1 soundtrack is superior and just has that nostalgia factor too!

lionheartx10 oh I see, that does make more sense. I do agree that rtw have a superior ost, I should have paid more attention watching the first episode

He's saying Lionheart played the turn to see where the army would go then reloaded and set the ambush. Yes I'm sure Lionheart is concerned enough about how he looks as a commander/player to do something like that...

No I just listened to what was suggested in the comments of part 2, quite a few said try an ambush so thats what I did lol. If you think otherwise fair enough I guess but it really doesnt bother me if you believe this or not.
