Make the port at Antium a military port. You never know when a navy will come in handy, and you'll likely need one if you aspire to invade and conquer Sardinia and Corsica.

I feel like you missed a pretty golden opportunity to send your slingers and javelin men up on the cliff during the seige of Antium for the sweet, sweet flank without having to send anyone up and over walls and keeping them safe from melee.

''The 'Rape' of the Sabine Women'' - Chapter 2 The fighting sides were absolutely shocked: a woman, a Sabine woman! A woman in the thick of battle; it was unthinkable to Italians. Normally, when a battle occurred between forces, Italian women would be far off, not concerning themselves with the brutalities of war. The Romans were used to this state of affairs: war was a man's game. Women would inspire their men from afar, but they would never dare to interfere in man's affairs. But this was different: the Sabine women were not far off; they were there, seeing their relatives being slaughtered by their 'captors' - and vice versa. Historians tell us the Romans and Sabines were evenly matched. According to the historian Livy, a Sabine woman came forward and spoke: ‘’If you regret, the relationship that unites you, if you regret the marriage-tie, turn your angst against us; we are the cause of war, the cause of wounds, and even death to both our husbands’’ - apparently they consented to their new role quite quickly - ‘’and our parents. It will be better for us to perish than to live, lacking either of you, as widows or as orphans.’’ The women threw themselves between the fighting sides and urged them to stop. With that, the Sabines and the Romans were stunned immediately and, in due time, made peace. In fact, they even joined forces: they briefly were led by two kings, Romulus and the Sabine Titus. For some strange reason, Titus seemed to have died under suspicious circumstances, leaving Romulus king and sparking several Sabine revolts. This myth, whether true or not, had a profound impact on the Roman feminine identity: yes, a woman was considered subject to man, but they could intervene, advise and be listened to nonetheless. Roman women, called matronae, would forever be inspired by the Sabine women, realising that men need women, no matter what. After all, it was only once the Romans conquered their women, that they could start to conquer the world. Rome was found on the backbone of arms, brought forth by womanly courage. Till next time!

Hernici aren't at war with the Volsci, at least not yet. I'd say stay at war with the Sabines - you'll need a new enemy anyways after you've finished mopping up Latium.

You could always give the politicians a promotion to give them more loyalty. And I think it gives some benefits to the province they are in. But it also gives them more gravitas. It is a good way to get more loyalty but it also makes that member stronger and more influential. Something to consider, it has helped me when I was in the same situation.

Hey Lionheart, watching this reminded of a really annoying aspect of Rome 2 that I consider a bug. When you select multiple units and tell them to say go through up a ladder/siege tower/get ranged units to fire on a single target....that does not happen. One of your jav units pathed right into the mêlée at the gate and that is why they routed off, not your fault, just the game XD I'm sure programming any TW is a complex endeavour but this can make or break key battles. Similar for ranged units, you have to move/target things one by one in this older TW. Great episode, and thanks as always for the content :)
@Mirr0r_man
@Mirr0r_man 6 жыл бұрын
The AI tries to take the quickest/shortest/path. As the first Jav unit already had the ladder route, following them was no longer the 'shortest/quickest' for the second, as they would be held up by the first. Therefore the AI logic chose the path through the gates - what the AI does not take into it's pathing calculations is the hold up caused by the intervening enemy units (and death)!

In order to curb loyalty problems, promoting your generals/politicians decreases each other faction by 2 per promotion level. One way to limit the problems is to not upgrade your faction past the free (level 1) promotion. As level one will give your faction generals/politicians the basics to earn gravitas without too big of a loyalty hit to the other factions. At least in the the early game this will help slow civil war issues. Plus, I've noticed you really need to spend a few minutes every turn devoted to upkeep on the politics side; just like you would with an army on the front lines or developing your economy. Another thing I've noticed is you really, really need to get a defensive alliance asap; normally the easiest faction is Turchuna to the north, as once you have an alliance with a semi-powerful nation other factions do not spam declare war on you (like the Volsci and Sabines do early on) and allows you to work on expanding south and east with relative ease. Also just as a side note and Idk if this has been said yet on other videos, all Etruscan settlements require 1000 gold to demolish each building (including playing as the Etruscan's). Its not a bug in the game but a faction specific feature. Great video though, thanks for taking your time and not rushing through the campaign like others who do videos on this DLC.

In the Seige of Antium you missed a solid missile flank with that cliff and packed way too many infantry in the gate. You also should have stayed committed to the original ladder placement to avoid a frontal engagement with the enemy, sending additional units up the ladder and back down the rear tower to flank the gate.

I would just peace out with the Sabine for now and focus on taking _all_ of Latium. Since you can't trade the provincial capital to the Hernici, you can't trust them to hold the region, let alone take out the rest of the Volsci. Better to just try and build relations with your coming neighbours and use them as buffers than having to rely on the Hernici to take out the Volsci and somehow hold your southern border.

You could have broken the siege of veii a turn earlier: U could have moved close to the besieging army with camillus and then attack with your garrison. That would've sealed the deal

As I explained in the video seeing as I still had a turn before surrender I thought it better to improve the army with new swordsmen for a turn which is was. :) There was no need to rush in a turn earlier.

Take Latium then Secure your borders to the north and south, and then push east to control the centre of Italy, before moving south, leave an army to defend from any northern attacks, doing it that way would be similar to the way the Romans actually conquered Italy, can you recreate history???

Hey, do you mind me asking if you have seen this mod? steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1472275307 it should be save-game compatible and I personally think it would be nice to see it in the campaign but that's my view. It just adds an awful lot of realism such as generals ageing and as they progress up the ranks their armour changes and their appearance on the battlefield. It is like I said a suggestion from me and entirely up to you whether you use it or not.
