I know it got overshadowed by the Naval Ai bugging out but can we appreciate how Legend gave 4 or 5 commands for his ships to disembark their troops during the battle at 35:10 and they never did for the entire battle.

It happens randomly. One time I couldn't embark 9 units except for the admiral until the battle was almost lost and that fleet was all I had other than the garrison. It's always a thrill not knowing if your marines will be joining the battle or not lol

the ships don't work if they don't have the room to manuevre, if he had backed them up a bit and then gave the orders, it would have been ok. never crowd ships in the harbour

That naval Siege battle killed it for me. A friend of mine told me to buy this DLC, because it's better than Empire Divided and because the AI is "better". A MORE AGGRESSIVE AI (on the campaign map anyway) DOESN'T MEAN IT'S BETTER.

Saw that happen in lionhearts campaign as well. Apart from this, all those years have gone by, and still the AI rushes the victory point. That can be so annoying but exploitative at the same time.

About having men on the front deck during ramming, when reading about the battle of Salamis, I read somewhere that they did that to put the bow lower in the water, so the ram would punch a hole in a more critical spot. It would also probably help with shielding the oarsmen from projectiles (shields).

it is kinda funny CA refuses to learn even tiny bit about history... presenting Rome as a city made of marble at the beginning of republic... It was Augustus who said, i found Rome as city made of bricks and left it as city of marble.. so practically, they give you Imperial Rome at the time it was mostly made of bricks and wood... when Gauls sacked it, it had simple wooden walls...

Camillus was a Roman general who was banished from the city for not asking permission from the Senate while on campaign (he actually conquered the Etruscan city of Veii). During his banishment Rome was defeated by a Gallic army which besieged the city. Only the Capitoline Hill which was heavily fortified was still standing (hence 2 sieges needed to capture Rome). While under siege the Senate saw their mistake in banishing Camillus and asked him to come back. They even gave him the special position of dictator (temporary gains all executive power) to get rid of the Gallic army. According to legend this was one of only 2 times Rome itself was actually besieged before the sacking by Alaric and the Visigoths in 410 CE.

Actually the reason why he was vanished is because during the siege of Veii he promised Apollo one tenth of all the loot and land if he granted them victory, something he neglected to mention until he got back to Rome, so the angry romans banished him for misshandling of funds.

Malivamar Those are details. There's essentially nothing faulty in my explanation. I just didn't go into detail. Point is he didn't confide with the city on what to do so they banished him. Later they needed him back so they asked him. And pointing out the historical inaccuracy of Rome still being at war with Veii at this point. Unless of course they wanted the campaign to start at the point where Rome was at war with Veii. But then the campaign intro is incorrect because there they already asked Camillus to come back after his banishment while it only started after the conquest of Veii.

This happened to me almost every single battle with a port, I couldn't land my units inside and the AI would only land a portion of their ships then bug out. Super annoying. I also found that the AI will attack if they have the balance of power in their favor the minute you make it equal or have a slight advantage they stop sending troops. More than 1 battle I had to chase down enemy units because as soon as B.o.p was in my favor they wouldn't move. To think this is STILL a problem boggles my mind. I basically paid 18$ for a harder, yet still equally as bugged campaign.

I have restarted this scenario now, probably 10 times. Not because I have lost Rome, but I feel like I get trapped a lot. Eg everyone declares war on me, and I end up just turtling in Rome, if I move out of Rome I will just die. This happens a lot. I think you have to to kind of play this in a blitzkreig style, just looting settlements and not building. And with no other culture being Latin apart form you, public order is a fking mess everywhere. This is pretty tough! but I love this DLC. The new assets they have added for this are awesome and the map is amazing.

That disembarking issue is driving me nuts as well. I have resorted to disembarking naval units outside of built-up areas if possible as that still seems to work properly. No guarantees though, I have spent a limited amount of time with this patch so far. Apart from that, the family system adds a welcome amount of difficulty, although I wish it was explained better.

I think the difficulty is great. It is hard and gives you goosebums as you play every battle. Each batle could be your end. That is what total war should feel like on Legendary. But there are still many issues in this little expansion. And you mentioned it, it is diplomacy. CA really need to change how diplomacy works. On legendary diplomacy should be hard, but it should work. It is illogical and unrealistic that difficulty setting disables any chance at diplomacy. And their battle AI is still sh.t.

There seem to be a big issue with anything with boats after this dlc. I did work okay before in the sense that AI and troops got get from point A (water) to B (land), but now it seem to have broken down completly reminiscent of early rome2-days. Have had battles after this patch in grand campaign where entire enemy armies out to sea just wouldnt move to disembark to attack when in battle just like you had (2 in a row actually), my own ships have been completly unresponsive in naval battles and here & there and have seen ships traveled sideways.

In this campaing, i defended rome against 3 full stack volsci army without even having general. It was 1k vs 8k men lol. My 2 Veteran Centuriae's just killed 5k man on the walls. The garrison in rome city is insanely strong.

Getting the other factions spouses and then upgrade their wifes seems like a good way to keep them loyal, and it also gives some small faction bonuses . Also hiring generals from the other factions is a good idea in my opinion

The problem with legendary is you have to resort to ridicolous tactics to gain any edge. I wish CA would make it so that increased difficulty made it such that the AI provides more of a challenge but in a constructive, realistic way

Still didnt figure it out how you do it. Every time my ranged units start shooting on any and I mean any enemy unit. They immedietly bring the whole army upon me while I am playing on Normal difficulty most of the times. While yours ranged units can happily fire on enemy even on Legendary difficulty while they sits there and let the rocks from your slingers hit them to the head xDDD still its gonna be good!

i can barely play it on hard difficulty, what a legend playing on legendary difficulty, its true that garrison is quite strong ur secondary city can defend against a 20 stack ai easily but even then the rome sword mans are not very good compare to histati, xD one of the more challenging ones i play in rome total 2 xD in terms of rome itself Edit : i do have that bug with landing, not sure if cause its "full" of troops at the beach or what, but i only manage to land it once xD

The Key to this is to get past the first 10 to 20 turns once you fight the cpu to at least a draw on these wars. The game gets easier. I beat this a few wks back.

Is weird but i've found Legendary difficulty pretty easy, i also try to embezzle some funds in the beginning of the campaign then i have to crush the sucesion but u just gotta be smart, don't use people from other houses when embezzling funds. For me is a pretty funny way to play the game and to crush the other factions quicker, of course I didn't try that with the Ancestral Update
