Yes, we put the charger in NiMh mode and overcharged the pack to cause this.

This was a cheap car made of all plastic, the heat from a LiPo fire is intense so it just caught all the plastic on fire 😂

Smart phones use less than 5 watts where a lipo can output hundreds And then there's lifepo4, which outright cannot self ignite, but only produce gas. They are much less energy dense, though.

I was charging a brand-new 2300mAh 3s g2 from Spektrum with a brand new Spektrum s-150 updated to charge g2 batteries. in under 30 minutes of charging at 1.5 amps, the battery exploded 8 times, set my bedroom on fire. We nearly lost the house. The fire was put out in under 1 minute, but my bed, walls, and clothes all were damaged beyond repair. Safe to say I won't be charging any more lipos until I get a nice thick steel box to charge them in.
