I'm not sure why the blue wasn't so visible in your video. I play with LOX quite frequently in my home (liquefy it in my basement). I posted a couple videos on my channel involving LOX and the blue color is quite evident. When it's in a white styrofoam cup, it doesn't even look pale blue, it looks BLUE BLUE... almost deep blue. BTW: to be safe, I never produce more than a 2L thermos full of LOX at any given time. EDIT: Ever make ice cream with LOX instead of LN2?? I do that too HAHA. You don't have to worry because an ice cream mixture is mostly water and NOT flammable. The rapidly boiling O2 gas filling my kitchen is another story though..... Hey, at least there's no asphyxiation hazard!

Is it possible to mix liquid oxygen with liquid hydrogen ? If so what happen if you ignite it ? Would it be too cold to react ? Or would it be explosive water ?

@BealsScience6 жыл бұрын

@stephenmccoy93986 жыл бұрын
Just get more teflon tubing. Coil it at the bottom of your dewar. Hook one end to your cylinder and the other end drop into your tube flask that is also in the dewar then flow your oxygen. That tube will be filled up in a few minutes. I just did this today to test an ozone still. Now if only I could figure out how to store the ozone....

Your mouth, tongue and esophagus (and potentially your stomach) would all get frost bite to the point they would be severely damaged. You would be in rough shape and, quite possibly, die. So, please don't drink liquid oxygen...

Can you just put oxygen gas on the flame and get the same results with the burning experiments?
@BealsScience6 жыл бұрын
You could definitely just add oxygen as a gas but making it into a liquid first allows the oxygen to vaporize slowly and keeps the speed of the reaction down (slower) so the flames don't get too big!.

@@BealsScience We're good for now. But thanks! I got my hands on some food grade NaOH, KOH, and HCL and we're going to make two different edible salts this weekend. And going to make butter at same time. Then we'll put our homemade salt on our homemade butter and/or avocado (for my vegan wife). That'll be at least 2 or 3 episodes for us. Best wishes, DaveFer
