Something I’ve used to demount smaller tires and wheels is my hydraulic wood splitter. I just place them on the beam like I’m splitting wood and use the ram to crush the wheel then rotate and crush every 90 degrees. After your done the wheel will look like a 4 leaf clover and the tire will slide off easily. Good job processing all that scrap.
@AlwaysBored123
@AlwaysBored123 Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. Steel rims with tires I typically sneak in with a big load of scrap or a car. Alloy wheels I take the tires off with a tire machine.
@normansabel1850

@@AlwaysBored123 when I scrap steel wheels i cut the tire off from the rim with a sawsall and an old blade sharpened to a knife edge. The bead is made from steel so it adds to the weight.

Great video. When I retired in 2006 I started scrapping in Mesa Az. Prices were good so it worked out well. I used a 16 foot flat car trailer with a winch and a 1 ton crew cab dually that gets maybe 6 miles to the gallon. My loads from the appliance place would average 4000 pounds. Prices here are so low had it not been for the big loads I would not have even broke even. At one point shred was at 2 cents a pound. That was around the time people called me like crazy but they go up and down daily here and not just a cent but copper will drop 25 cents I continued to scrap until the main place I obtained it all from ( a scratch & dent store that moved 10 miles farther away ) and began charging for their scrap. At 3 cents a pound it was not worth it barely covering expenses. Now the yard a few miles away won't take refrigerator's with freon in them any longer. He will without freon but I'm not setting myself up for an EPA issue. I will still haul scrap if I can get it but unlike the old days when I just had a Craigslist ad where people would call and give me truck loads of scrap metal it is none existent any longer. No one calls and there is really nothing to have and no one puts anything on the curb. I suspect people are selling it themselves given the crappy economy. Keep up the good work.
@AlwaysBored123
@AlwaysBored123 Жыл бұрын
Wow those are some rough prices. I agree it's hard to justify any effort at all for 3 cents a pound. Imo unless you own a scrapyard there is far more money to be made in non-ferrous scrap than in iron and steel. Particularly in extracting copper from electrical and HVAC scrap. I think I made as much, if not more, on just the ac units as I did on all the steel I hauled in this video. The downside of course is if you want non-ferrous stuff in decent quantities you will have to pay something for it. It's worth it though.

I would wait for a dark night and light those tires up, than pick up the wheels and wire and scrap it, probably the best bet with those.

I just threw most of them in with other loads of scrap. My yard's not real picky thankfully.

At 20:20, that would make a good lawn mower carrier or just general purpose flat bed utility trailer. I have one of those trailers at 21:04 and there are times when those sides just get in the way.

Thanks glad it was entertaining. I didn't post a price because they're so different everywhere but it was about $9,000 worth of scrap metal I think.

awesome Job of it ,why did he wait so long ,it's amazing How people can't time manage and Procrastinate until the last minute and expect you to haul off years of accumulated junk in a few days, I'd be interested to Know how many trips you made, scrappers you gotta love them until ya have to move them

Thanks. Yeah he might actually be a worse procrastinator than me. I want to say it was something like 10-15 trips? But I really can't remember.
How much can you make scrapping electric motors? (A lot).
