The only thing about shift+delete is to not get too comfortable using it. I accidentally deleted some essential folders this way when I was manually cleaning files from my hard drive because shift+delete became second nature for me, I just did it without thought and ignored the warning prompt.
@LironSegevАй бұрын
true - it happens. I only do it when I need to urgently delete files while copying large files and am running out of space quickly...These video files for the channel are massive and we are forever moving them around
@charliesretrocomputingАй бұрын
That's why I just always press DEL to move to recycle bin and that way if i DO delete the wrong thing, I can recover it from recycle bin, and if it was the right thing that I deleted, I can easily empty the recycle bin. I used to use Shift+DEL and one day I accidentally deleted very important files, and from that day on I never used it again.
@writerpatrickАй бұрын
I use to try setting the recycle bin to delete anything sent to it but I found I often delete things by accident (especially when rename and create shortcut are right next to it).

Thanks for those. 👍 I don't use Windows all that much, but when I do, some of those will be useful. After watching that, I messed about a bit. I just loaded up MS Word and discovered that *ALT + SHIFT + L-ARROW / R-ARROW* will change a line's formatting into the various heading styles. *ALT + TAB* is a nice way to see the open apps, scroll through them and choose the one you want. The permanently delete file thing can also be done by selecting a file and *SHIFT + DEL* no right clicking, but it is great that *SHIFT + Right click* brings up a more complete menu to access other features/options. Thank again.

Another trick for the scroll wheel is to hover over your sound taskbar icon, and scroll to raise or lower your volume. The middle click used to open new app windows also works on your browser's links. Middle-clicking a tab in your browser, however, closes that tab.

Thanks for the scroll wheel, cmd prompt, and snap function info. And in the interest of sharing neat things, I learned this from thiojoe: when in notepad, pressing F5 gives you the current date and time. I use it every day. I had heard of the snap stuff but hadn't used it, but the first 2 I list, completely new to me as was the F5. Mind you, I learned computer programming with punch cards, so yeah, even us old timers can still learn new things (and so far I can still see the mouse, so no size change for now, but who knows). Again, thank you for your videos.

Great video, thanks. Yes, I knew most of these, but the realisation of a transparent command prompt blew my mind :) Showing my age, but I started off with dos 6.22/win 3.1 (well, if I'm being honest, I started with DOS 3.0). It was fun tweaking the daylights out of config.sys and autoexec.bat to free up not KB but bytes, creating multiboot menus, etc. I'm currently looking at the usage of the generated desktop.ini files. What I want to do is create a standard desktop.ini that you could copy/paste over the system created desktop.ini, restricting any system changes, however desktop.ini files seem to be created with links elsewhere.

This can even work for non-Microsoft programs. Edit: I looked it up, it's WinGet. I think it only works on newer versions on Windows 10 and on Windows 11 but it's very useful.

@TheDarkCovenant Last year I ran into this issue where the keyboard latency made OneNote unusable. It turns out the problem was caused by a Control Panel setting for Ease of Access. Specifically, I disabled the Text Cursor Indicator option and it immediately resolved the sluggish typing issue in OneNote. Go figure. Edit: In Win11, it looks like this option is now found in Settings (not cpanel). Look for "Text cursor indicator" in the Accessibility section and toggle it off.
