It is also important to lock down the router config to only "allow" the MAC addresses of the computers you are using. This is referred to MAC filtering or an access list.

Best part of Asus is how friendly they are for VPNs, they use chipsets that are designed to specifically handle the whole home encryption/decryption from having VPN loaded on router directly. With a 200mbps plan I was getting over 150mbps while using a mainstream VPN service, rly not all that bad. Asus really does tech well, and has for more than a 15 minutes of fame, they're in it for the long haul!

Why do ISPs who provide routers only allow router adjustments through their app that you have to put on your phone instead of also allowing you to do it over your home PC? I don't trust that. They want to know your phone and what you do with it.
@LironSegev
@LironSegev 9 ай бұрын
for many people an app is simpler to use. In most cases you can still use a web browser to get to your router and make the changes - even if the company has an app. I know that is true for AT&T and Spectrum in the US (I have both)

I never use the ISP’s Router I always buy my own. Primarily because I can’t stand to pay them five or $10 a month to “rent” their Router after a year that or maybe two years I paid for the Router myself.

Thanks for the video. I bought my ASUS (ZenWifi AX Mini) as it was in my price-point and 'included' trend micro protection I recognized from other ASUS routers I have owned. Unfortunately it isn't a FULL version (on this specific router) so not all the features you reviewed were available. Not an issue with your review - that was great - just a note to folks who might experience a slightly different trend micro product in their ASUS router.

Great video and explanations. Does these routers provide a hard wired direct connection? and can the wi-portion be turned off and on easily, say via button on the actual router? Thanks for your input in advance. If these 2 routers dont offer what I am asking you about, what would be your recommendation for mostly wired connection and occasional wi-fi usage? I have 1200 sq feet home. 2 story. Ok these are way too pricey for me needs, Can you please recommend one that supports one connection from the modem to the router, then 4 ports that I can use wired connections to that, and one that has a wi fi option that I can turn on and off as needed with a button on the actual router?

I currently use a Netgear X6-AC3200 tri-band R8000 with current firmware that I am generally happy with but have been considering upgrading to a MESH system in the hope of improving my outside WIFI range which is, for me, quite poor ( note: tried 'everything' to improve this bar upgrading router system but failed). I expect this is a naive question but why would I upgrade to these ASUS routers as opposed to setting up a MESH network?
