Liron...what amazes me about your art is the connect or flow you move in your painting...from top to bottom...for that i suppose your quick judgement to choose exact colour or tones and mixing it so fast makes all the difference

Yes, that's where experience comes into the picture. I simply do based on what I see. That quick circuit is what allows the flow to come.

There is such a benefit in knowing what your brush will do. When I was teaching oil painting the first class on the syllabus was " make love to your brush" . I wanted everybody to know how to prepare a new ( or old) brush, what marks their brushes would make ( pressure etc.) , how much paint would be held ( especially with the changing viscosity) , then proper cleaning for extending the life of the brush. Play time..hello btush...,

Very cool! I think part of the journey for me is actually picking (or framing) the subject in a meaningful way. How much effort is used in composing a painting for you?

Interesting! This was indeed cut from a larger photo. But it took about 20 seconds. This one was easy because I know I wanted her to be the focus and in the center. But if I have multiple points of interest, I tend to go for something a little more nuanced (usually the rule of thirds works well for me). But even that takes about a minute. I think at the end of the day - it's a sense / taste that develops with some experiment and trial and error. And at that point it's effortless ^_^

Liron...every medium has its own potential...engagement with the painting could be more in other media too..however i suppose the intensity of the moment has to be watercolour as Time and precision in deciding exact tones..quickly creates the timeline...maybe...

Yes, exactly! No doubt every media has its own form of engagement. The one difference is the short timeframe that allowes for more in watercolor, as an inherent quality of the medium.

I love the way that you play Liron. Many artists do seek that brisk, free expression in painting. Some love the in-the-moment tactile enjoyment of the paint and brushstrokes but sacrifice realism. Others like plein air master Edgar Payne would create an entire 18x24” painting perfecting shape color, and value and then base the much larger painting from the tight, perfected painting. He said that he wanted to convey that he painted with ease and that he had more enjoyment of paint application after he had everything figured out. I’m still finding my way.

That's a great point, it seems there are different preferences. And creating a slow, detailed and realistic painting can be as engaged. I think I personally seek both (something I understand more and more as time goes on) How realistic can I make it with a direct approach (:

Love your ability & willingness to talk about your process. This explains why my white horse last week turned out so well, about an hour and completely engaged with him. You do know you can turn any reference photo clothes into the colors you want (like blue and orange), seems you never pull that card. And wondering why you didn’t tape this down? It slipped a bit, seems like it would have been useful.

Thank you Lisa! 🙏😊 As for the colors, I sometimes make minor changes. But I usually snap photos of things I like, so no change is required for the most part. As for not taping, I find it easier to pick up the piece of paper and tilt it to control the flow. (As opposed to picking up the entire board). Just a quirck I started having lately haha, not sure why but I feel closer to the painting if I can directly grab the paper.

For me watercolour is unique because of the glow and tonal variations look untouched by us...its spontaneous on paper after the brush lands pigments on the surface

Thank you - this is so dynamic! I accidentally bought some hot pressed paper, which forced me to abandon the first wash, 2nd wash, 3rd wash plan and paint more like this - starting in the center and building out. It's much more rewarding, because you have to be so thoroughly engaged - no do-overs. I'm glad I didn't take the paper back.

I've been gradually shedding more and more unnecessary elements and what is left is closer to my true style. I do still have a way to go, in the best way possible. In my vision I see where I can develop in a relatively short period of time from now. Even more flow, immediacy and uninterrupted watercolor magic. I'm not sure how the current situation influences it, but it definitely does. When I AM engaged with the process, I'm far more engaged than I used to be.
