I watched this 2 years ago just as the pandemic kicked in and I was stunned. To this day I still remember every note of it. I have been an average solo guitarist for over 20 years and I have always lurked on synths and modular synthesis and fiddled around with gear. When I watched this performance I was filled with respect for Lisa and something changed inside me. I had to get deeper and get really serious about it. I worked my a$$ off during the lockdown and did not even take time to breath for two long years. Now I finally saved enough money to aquire a Moog Matriarch as I was completely sold on the synth. And this time, I am not willing to let it stand in the studio whil it is taking dust and not making awesome music with it. I also took extensive music theory classes during this period (in the night after work from home) and I analysed her pieces and style harmonically and rythmically. Today I finally ordered that Synth and I am so excited. I can't wait to pay honour & respect to this piece of creative art. Thank you Lisa for being such an inspiring human being. And thanks Bob for making history. You give people's lives purpose and meaning. God Bless you all.

Lisa Bella Donna is my favourite synthesist ever. I just can’t get enough of this performance. Also no patch cables used on this synth and what she does with it is just incredible. She is superb. If I won the lottery my first move would be to pay Lisa whatever it took to give me music lessons.

You also need to take into consideration she’s not playing presets and tweaking them. I can only imagine the notion of being able to think in multiple dimensions and just know what control movements create what kinds of sounds-all through a half-hour performance. She’s like: okay, I’ll twist this knob and get more chirp, and this knob up will make it sound like bells but with an envelope like “whup whup whoop whoop whooop whooop whooooooooop whAAAAaaaaaaaaa. She doesn’t need a cheat sheet or anything-it’s all coming out of her head. I can’t wait to spend my lunch money for the next two years on one of these babies.

It's a great performance but I don't think there's any point in giving her cool points for not using presets, it's very much a computer musician sort of perspective it seems like. She's a musician that practiced her craft which is commendable but that's just barrier of entry stuff for live performers, and has been for centuries. It's what comes out the speakers that matters not the gear or how she chooses to play it.

I don’t think she’s thinking a lot, I think that she’s just done it so much that the choices happen subconsciously, and she’s totally free to express what she wants through the synth in real time as she feels it, and then she gets input from the synth and the sounds she’s playing, which causes her to express more and different things, kinda like a feedback loop between her and her instrument. At least that’s how it looks to me 🤷🏻♂️ can’t say for sure

When I watch most modular synth players, I'm usually impressed by things like timbre and form, etc., but I don't usually notice things like technical skill. When I do, it's usually someone knowing the hardware well enough to manipulate tones and textures so easily. This is different. In addition to all the above, she has some serious keyboard chops. The opening lick, where she uses the portamento knob to control the slide so precisely... Well, I'd have to practice that. That level of technical skill combined with her limitless imagination is magical. It approaches genius.

Man, first off, that was incredibly awesome and blew my mind as to what a synth can do. The part from 16:35-16:45 reminds me of some of the craziness from a band called Persefone's album Aathma from, I believe, "Stillness is Timeless".
