Marijuana is not good to use longterm, especially starting off young (as i and many others have). I noticed that when i smoke i feel great, but its later when im sober that the anxiety and stress hit me. I was in denial about it for so long, but came to realize its just not for me.

Dr. Amen, in the literature, is there any link between toxins in the brain (such as due to marijuana use or nocitine, or alcohol for that matter), and ADHD? This interview was awesome!

I absolutely agree with you. Not only is marijuana devastating for your brain, but lungs as well. And much like alcohol or other drugs, it is not good for families either. For all the reasons Dr. Amen mentioned.

Thank you for addressing this, as a lifelong outcast for my differences and drugs were a path I tried young to find peace in my head. I find the activity great, thinking a million miles an hour to learn, get things done, write, etc. Glad to have the energy. I cut most of my habits but coffee and pot, did not think I had any issues. At peace within and productive, great memory, and all things youthful. I ground, walk miles a day, study, and left out most of my habits from my younger days. At 68 this October, I still smoke pot and remain productive, focused and writing at 200 wpm, which is in a flow state that does seem to be possible with coffee and THC together. I realize there may be issues with both, but the performance levels at this age with these factors and some supplements, good food, and exercise. Grounding, which seems to be working very well till. In spite of that, I want to look into having such a scan to see but not if the scan requires chemical injections to get the shadowing. Cool but the issue of what pot does to us and I have an issue with that so darn... no nicotine... but pot seems to be serving me well so far still. Are you sure there is no back door... it does seem to help give energy, focus, creativity, sensitivity to nature, and more. Why is there a dichotomy in this question and answer? Does the coffee then compensate and offset. If that is possible in 6 months, it might be worth the test again. Scary to think that has to be what is coming next.

There is a tremendous amount of research that shows how CBD/THC in medicinal forms have enormous physiological benefits. Just smoking weed may not have much value, but a good practitioner who understands how marijuana compounds work can provide patients relief from many ailments. It cured my cancer, as well as many others' cancer. Amen is a great doctor, but he doesn't understand marijuana's benefits

Just quit. You didn't start that young. The brain will heal itself and marijuana is bad for the brain but it's not something that can't be reversed. You can do other positive brain stuff Dr. Amen talks about to help it recover.

Interesting! Regarding Cannabis. My body's receptors appreciate the relief provided...eases pain, anxiety and more. I'm thinking it's less toxic than the hydrocodone,Adderall, benzos and anti-deps it replaced. Less is usually more but sometimes a lot more is better. Mental growth, self awareness, etc is highly individual. Quanah Parker managed 8 wives,re-built the Comanche nation, wrangled with the US Government and was never a slacker, all while creating the original full-use peyote shaman church. Just know who you are, focus on being healthy in your soul. Love a LOT,it makes life better.

ADHD needs to be treated properly with life changing medication and behaviour therapy. Long term studies of people using stimulant medication show the shrunken areas of the brain typical of adhd brains have grown, developed and normalised. Supplements or getting the necessary nutrients from food, even better, can help assist general health but are not going to treat the dopamine deficit in the brain that medication will assist with.

@renatapters3681 I agree w/what you explained. Treating ADHD has to be a multi-faceted approach, particularly for kids in intense learning situations like school. I speak from experience as a retired elementary school counselor. There isn't one magic bullet. Skills have to be taught to manage certain focusing & learning, social or other deficits that come w/managing ADHD & medication assists the brain on being able to do those tasks. If you listened closely, Dr. Amen said he "suspects" from years of experience that the "holes" in Lisa's brain are from nicotine & marijuana use. Any long term substance abuse is not healthy for anyone. And I wonder how trauma & stress, neglect etc. affect the brain & could they do the same damage? We are such complex beings as are our brains. I struggle w/ADHD & I'm 63. I also grew up in a rageaholic/alcoholic home & have suffered from trauma related to such an environment. I was successful, earning 2 degrees by the grace of God, but it was a struggle. I of course self-medicated w/drugs & alcohol in my teen years & w/alcohol into my early 30's. It is a constant day to day managing of my focus & attention & my heightened fight or flight response. Exercise, gardening & being outdoors works wonders for me in relieving stress. I take supplements & do my best to eat a healthy diet. I bike & walk regularly. So, there's lots of good info from Dr. Amen, but it takes a lot of work. And sadly not everyone can afford to have such a scan done that insurance won't pay for. I'm sure my scan would yield similar results among others as I've had 2 concussions from car accidents in my lifetime. A well rounded approach as you stated is what works & there is seldom a magic bullet as ADHD is a complex diagnosis that impacts all facets of life. If medication helps in the management of it, I see no problem as long as other approaches are also being used along w/the medication.

@@barbs1298 Thank you Barbs for sharing your story. I recently watched a video lecture by an ADHD specialist who said that scans are not used and cannot be used as part of a diagnostic process. In another video lecture, he describes how certain areas of the brain shrunken in ADHD people, but after years of receiving stimulant medication treatment, the neural pathways linking executive function to those shrunken areas, such as the amygdala’s start to grow a normalise in size.

“Radical Confidence” - everything about her screams mental issues. For some people, does anything really change them especially when their way of thinking is the issue to begin with? Not to mention her externalization to some degree of her own internal decisions and issues. Even something small like discussing how she rolls her joints, she has to externalize and joke "it's the European way of doing it" which is complete and utter nonsense and not remotely the point. Imagine living with someone who lacks self awareness to this degree; the way she talks "here's the thing, at the end of the day ...". It's good she's going for help, but it's crazy the lack of common sense with so many people these days to the point where people can't say "Hmmm, are doing drugs good or bad? ... Obviously bad. Don't do it. Do something healthy instead." Is there really any lasting help with these sort of interventions?
