D 03 Lisa’s transitions are better, more polished than Mariah’s simply because Lisa is trained whilst Mariah is not.
@uiteren28455 жыл бұрын
D 03 It isn’t as flawless as you think. Whistles are a disconnected register and when you transition from (ex. Chest to Whistle vice versa) you will always hear a vocal break because of the vocal folds. In Head Voice, Mariah also has this issue (all singers have vocal break when transitioning) that the vocal break is always evident. Lisa however, doesn’t have an evident vocal break. That’s why you only hear clean sound because vocal breaks are the sliding of the chest upward until you can utilize Head Voice (Mariah always has this issue so she always pauses before she goes into HV). That’s why you see Mariah preferring to just do descending runs from HV to chest. Lisa, Beyonce, Whitney, SoHyang are all better than Mariah in terms of transitioning
@uiteren28455 жыл бұрын
D 03 Thats the best example lmao. She was pushing in that performance as well.

That girl can sang!!!! With the backing of Luther Vandros (she was his long time back up singer) and her amazing voice, she could've easily been as big as Whitney, but she said she didn't want superstardom, she just wanted to sing. After a few hits and a Grammy she returned to doing back up singing for other artists. Luther toured with Envogue but kept pissing the ladies off by reminding them that his back up singer could blow them all away. I can't disagree with Luther, Envogue can sing, no doubt but Lisa is in another league.

Lisa's not "Only a backup singer" she openly doesn't have the ego or even desired the lifestyle that goes with Stardum, I'm paraphrasing Lisa's own words. Many famous bands and singers think she's an amazing star and supreme voice, she just loves to sing with others and its a cathartic/spiritual process for her. She's still alive making music and singer with others. Not hounded by cruel people and bashed by the media and fans, she's genuinely adored by all she works with and I think that within itself is an amazing feat for the history and the singers she has performed with. "Only" a back up singer is not who she is. She's an amazing talented woman who has more compassion and humility than most. Luckily people who recognize her gift and beauty are inspired by it and strive to have her be involved in her music.

Was about to say.....we musicians differentiate singers from musicians....she has an instrument, complete command, so many textures....the way she moves through registers is absolutely stunning. Brandi is rightly called the 'vocal bible.' Ms. Fischer is the vocal encyclopedia.

Is Az This Was Released After Mariah’s Debut , So That’s Inaccurate . Before This She Was Only a Back Up Singer
@isaz5976 жыл бұрын
Diaab Nasir please read my statement again. I didn't mention the song. Mariah Carey credited both Lisa Fischer & Minnie Riperton (amongst others) as her musical influences when she was coming up. I don't have the interview at hand. You may be able to find it online. Mariah Carey was also a back up singer. Singing back up on "Back to life" by Soul II Soul. They could've met. I think the homage by Mariah Carey is on some Lisa Fischer segment or documentary.

This is by far the greatest R&B vocal performance I have ever seen. I make all of my vocal students sit and watch this performance and we analyze what she is doing physically and mentally to crush this song. She is in complete control of her instrument to the point that she can remain physically calm, poised and focused throughout the entire performance. She makes it look easy when in fact it is far from it. There are no twitches or unnecessary movements of the head, neck or jaw. Notice that she rarely moves further than a few inches from the microphone even when she is belting. This is because she has mastered breath control and knows exactly how much air to use in order to sing consistently throughout her entire range without yelling or pushing. She lets the microphone and PA do a lot of the heavy lifting. Her restraint is remarkable with no unnecessary runs or acrobatics. She is not afraid to leave space for the song to breathe with her. The diction is perfect. The high notes are beautiful and full of resonance (she is not squeaking) and she loses no control when running licks up there. This kind of control is the result of years and years of training and practice. It was muscle memory and she knew exactly what was going to come out of her mouth the entire time. She is magical. She is an inspiration.
