She was definitely underrated. I think she was far superior musically, emotionally and talent wise than most of the other "comparable" artists in the 90's. Just not as commercial, so I guess she got overshadowed by the Lilith crowd.

This album is unbelievable. Such an underrated artist/vocalist.

this song captures something so inherent to the experience of being female, wanting something so much you let yourself become totally vulnerable to it, and having no idea what you are really in for, and the way you blame yourself when it turns out bad, whether it's a relationship, a friendship that goes bad or anything else where you feel disillusioned and taken advantage of, it's about the way we abandon ourselves to the things we think we want

Always saw this as more of a critique of rape culture, how women who are more aggressive sexually aren't taken seriously as rape victims - "she caused it all, cry, cry wolf," the "crying wolf" being that she is lying about being raped because she doesn't want the reputation of a fast woman - "she does a lot of things and regrets it" maybe she is trying to shift the blame onto someone else because she has a history of this behavior - it's all the excuses used to blame women for assaults

"A change of mind in that back seat or that dirty room - they say she got just what she wanted" The song is clearly about rape, and because of the repeating lyrics "love is weird," i would say acquaintance rape, maybe by a lover, and because she is with him, OBVIOUSLY (/sarcasm) she wants him, and when she tells anyone, she is accused of lying - crying wolf. "You should have known better, it's all your fault" etc All ways of shifting the blame of assault onto women and not abusers

which makes it one of the most devastating songs ever written

This is further reflected in the lyrics "a girl who wants it but has no clue" - saying that a woman has brought it upon herself by dressing provocatively, maybe, despite honestly having no idea and no intent behind how she was dressing (men having no regard for bodily autonomy) and because of how she was dressed, a rapist would end up saying "look at her, how could she not want it?"
