Marty. Marty, Marty, Marty. He absolutelly deserved what he got regardless of what your opinion on him is, but the fact that he was genuinely sorry and wanted to change despite the fact that he will never come close to redeeming himself of the awful things he did, really do drive home many of the themes of the game. That scene with him is easily one of my favorite moments in the game. Gonna wait till you cover Joyful to talk about Buddy. That girls a whole nother can of worms. Did anyone else realize that Marty and Brad slowly switched roles? Marty starts out temperamental and quick to anger and violence, but later he becomes docile, but ready to defend those he cares about even at his expense. Brad, on the other hand, starts out defending the helpless and caring for buddy, but then becomes abusive and obsessive, trapping buddy, just like Marty trapped Lisa. even in the end, he attempts to kill Rando, basically killing innocence itself leaving buddy all alone in the wasteland.

For everyone, I think we need to remember that Brad is a victim of severe abuse and the cycle of abuse. He’s a bad father, but not by choice. He was trying to do his best, but that doesn’t mean he was good. If you look a little closer, he’s a mirror of Marty, not sexually abusing his daughter, but isolating her and verbally abusing her, even if it wasn’t intentional. What’s sad is that Brad is projecting Lisa onto his daughter, which removes Buddy’s identity and agency. It’s not what Buddy wants, it’s what LISA needed that matters. Buddy was isolated and ignorant. That doesn’t excuse her actions, but what she learned from Brad damages her. She was taught to kill to defend herself, but also told to never leave or talk to anyone. She was told to not call him “Dad” and that she should not talk about certain things or with her uncles if it upsets Brad. She’s a lost girl, scared of the world and scared of upsetting her not-dad. She’s a victim of abuse, though unwilling abuse, it was still done. She’s been repressed her whole life, in a love-hate relationship with her not-dad, and the atrocities she commits in LISA: the Joyful is the result of Brad’s parenting. This is all she knows, and while she does learn that there are better options, she saw those better options be taken away from her by Brad. So, she gives up, following Brad’s philosophy of kill or be killed.

Brad wasn’t the best dad but god was buddy ungrateful. In brads pursuit of protective her he did abuse her unintentionally (I’m not sure if abuse her is the right word but it was bad). We didn’t see her full childhood but we can assume that the combination of being confided to a small dirty room and negate from brad during large portions of his life (doing joy and drinking either passing out or leaving he alone so he can do it) lead her to disliking brad but for all his faults he was saving her from a life of being used as a tool for breading. He could have done it in a better way but buddy still should have appreciated that.
@SquatchGamingChannel6 жыл бұрын
The way I see it, she didn't know nor understand what he was "protecting" her from - That's why she rebelled so strongly. I would say it's a struggle every parent goes through. Idk what you're childhood was like, so forgive me if I"m speaking out of line, but think about it for a moment: was there ever a time your parents wouldn't let you do something "because they know better" or "because it wasn't safe"? What were your feelings during that moment? That's likely what Buddy was feeling, and the protectiveness of Brad is comparable to how your parents likely felt during that moment. I know it probably isn't 1 to 1 (after all, Buddy and Brad have an unorthodox situations), but hopefully that helped open your eyes a bit.

Gotta say, I liked everything except how they handled Buddys motivation. I get the shes being rebellious and probably she is a bit of a psychopath, but blaming Brad and saying he hurt her the most, I never understood that. Every time she ran away from Brad something worst happened to her, being kidnapped constantly, her nipple being sliced off, her face being scarred. Saying that Marty was a better father in a few days than you ever were and that he saved her life. Brad literally saved Buddys life when she was found as a baby and raised her. He wasn't numb to the idea of having her go outside, he made a mask to protect her. He didn't devoid her from social interactions. I just feel they they could of ramped up Buddys suffering with Brad so we could relate to her motivation. Show us what she experienced in the outside world recently was nothing compared to how it was living with Brad. Maybe even reveal something sinister thing about Brad in the end that was kept from the player that will justify Buddys motivations from running away. It couldn't be the drugs, since half the population is hopped up on Joy and the other half are offering it. The only thing I came up with, is that Buddy is either insane or just really really dumb, even for teenage standards on the path of rebellion, she has no common sense at all. Her body mutilated, constantly seeing death, violence and extreme debauchery in a matter of days vs the person who fed, sheltered and protected you your whole life, oh, but he left me alone a few times while he got hopped up on drugs and alcohol, No that's the bad guy! It just didn't click.

The song that plays before the first round is titled "goodbye baby." and is so remarkably beautiful. Deep down brad knows he's in the wrong. If he gives buddy to dusty she will be looked after, fed, educated and loved. (All the things brad once did for the orphan dusty "rando") but the joy that buzzo forced him to consume is obligating him to fulfill his deepest desires. Brad knows he must succeed and by succeeding in this fight he his effectively destroying buddys best chance as survival. "Goodbye baby" is symbolic for both the close demise of a man who has failed, and the love that he truly has for buddy. I think the moment when the third wave saids "just give him the girl." is heartbreaking. Because their effectively condemning humanity because how terrified they are of a unrelenting force. And it's story telling like that brings sorrow into my heart, but also fills me with hope. Edited for clarity and grammatical errors.

Oh hello there! My name is Nern. I'm considered the greatest historian of our time... I've gathered a wealth of knowledge about Olathe and what happened here. Many tales... Would you like to hear? Hmm... I wish you were more enthusiastic... Oh well, I'll tell you anyway. Let's see.... Oh right! It all started with what I like to call, THE FLASH. I was sitting with my wife, god rest her soul, sipping on sweet lemon tea. I believe it was homemade by my sweet wife, God rest her soul. Or wait... Maybe she bought it from the store in a bottle. You know, like a plastic bottle? Well hold on now, that would be ridiculous to buy a bottle of sweet lemon tea, then transfer the contents into a glass. Why not just drink it from the bottle? I guess maybe so she could put ice in the glass? But then again, making tea homemade would be just as time consuming, if not more! That sneaky bitch... Anyway, I'll save that story for later! So, I'm sitting on my porch drinking sweet lemon tea. From a glass of course, ho ho! When suddenly... A great strangeness fills my body... Something was wrong... I've lived many years, and I've never felt something like this before. Do you know what it was? Yup! It was my rocking chair! That wooden son of a gun stopped rocking! So I looked down and realized a little rock had gotten caught beneath my chair! A rock under my rocking chair! What a day! I decided it was time for bed, I had had a little bit too much excitement for one day! Hoho! I slid into my jammies, brushed my teeth, and said my prayers. As I was climbing into bed I noticed my wife, God rest her soul, brushing her hair in the bathroom. As I peered across the hall my body swelled up with emotion... "Why can't I be married to an attractive woman?" "Is it me?" "My bank account?" I'm a tall guy, I workout forty minutes a week... Is that not enough? Now my neighbor at the time, Tom Forknight, was very short. His wife, Karen Forknight-Plateburger... Yeah, one of THOSE women. Well, she was more attractive than my wife. I'd say she was a soft six, whereas my wife was a hard four. What's the deal? I thought women liked tall men? Why was Karen with him? Anyway my horse of a wife, God rest her soul, crawled into bed next to me. She decided to leave the bedside light on so she could read her book. It was one of her romance novels again... Give me a break... As if I don't already feel inadequate enough... Not only do I have to compete with Tom, now I have to deal with these fictional hunks! Ay yai yai! At this point I had already suppressed the urges of intimacy, I rolled over and tried to sleep. Her bedside light was only of minor annoyance. I was able to drift off... Then I woke up to a big flash of light. That's about it. I can tell by the way you're walking away that you don't want to leave... If you really want to hear another story I'll tell you. Once upon a hot summer night. Sometime in July... Was it July? My local grocery store sells really good eggs in July. I don't know why. Do chickens operate better in heat? Fireworks maybe? I don't know. I don't want to get off topic. Point is, the eggs that Summer were marvelous! Anyway, my wife and I, God rest her soul, went to a BBQ that night. It was held at Dale Spooner's house. Well, his backyard... Conny Spooner doesn't want people in her home, I think she's just an uptight bitch. So at this BBQ I see none other than... That's right, Tom Forknight... Now earlier in the day wife, God rest her soul, had made potato salad for the BBQ. Personally I hate potato salad, I'm a mashed kind of fellow. Hoho! So I sat in the TV room avoiding her till the BBQ. Once we were at the party, I made sure to distance myself from my dumb potato bitch wife. God rest her soul, I just didn't want anyone to think I would associate with someone that would bring a potato salad! Anyway, Tom and his above mediocre wife were already there. And get this, they brought a fruit salad! With whipped cream! The nerve of those Forknights! Needless to say I gave my wife, God rest her soul, a couple choice words About whipped cream! Versus potato salad! God dammit! Son of a bitch! A real tongue lashing! Geez, you're kind of smothering me. I'll talk to you later.
@SquatchGamingChannel6 жыл бұрын
Well hello again! Funny seeing you here! What, are ya following me or something? Hoho! Anyway... I often wonder what all happened here. What was that big flash? Why are we here? Even our night and day cycle is odd... Sometimes days last ages, and nights come rarely. And these clouds... So strange... What's happened to our earth? Oh well. Enough of that boring stuff. I once had a real kooky day at the doctor's office! I was in the waiting room reading a teen magazine. Normally I don't indulge in adolescent publications, but I couldn't resist! I had recently heard the new artist on the radio, Ulysess Utensils! She's some young woman, maybe a boy, I don't know. Either way that child can really grasp my attention! So I'm reading this magazine because I saw Ulysess on the cover. I still wasn't able to identify if it was a man or woman. But as I'm reading I notice something on the ceiling... I look up to see that there is some water damage. You'd think a doctor would make enough money to maintain his office... I guess he cares about his cool jetskis more than his patient's comfort... And his assumedly big house and hard-bodied wife... I wish my wife was like that... Big ol'... Melons... Just then! A droplet of water falls from the ceiling! My eyes trail it all the way down to the ground! I stared at the floor for some time, watching the carpet absorb the water. Suddenly my attention is caught by a small child. The child was glaring directly at me. I saw the devil looking right back at me beneath his eyes! I got nervous and quickly stared directly at my feet as not to aggravate the child. And that's when i noticed something... I was wearing two different kinds of socks! Golly, I'm all revved up after these thrilling exchanges! To be fair you're a bit of a bore, but beggars can't be choosers! I think I'll stick around, I've got many a tale to tell!

I feel ya! I didn't really like the difficulty of the game personally. The power of all of the mutants/bosses makes it pretty inaccessible in my opinion. It wouldn't be so bad if there was more of a party, but Buddy is alone the entire time. I get that it's supposed to hammer home the point that she's all alone now, but still...!

… but Brad was *right* tho. Keeping your daughter in a bunker and not allowing her to leave because men would rape her on sight would have been crazy in ANY setting but this one. He was 100% right, and it really feels like the only reason the plot goes this way is because Buddy is a fucking moron. Why doesn’t she blame Rick or Sticky? If they’d never taken her, NONE of this would have happened. But at no point does she reflect on this. She gets captured and injured, and then when Brad saves her: she runs off gets captured and injured *again* and *again.* It seems like you’re supposed to feel like the bad guy, and “oh this is all from Brad’s fucked up perspective so this isn’t REALLY what’s happening” but… no. Tardy knew she was in the truck, and was *right.* Rando commented on her injuries. Those things are real, and they are all direct results of her running off when she can’t take care of herself! I’d be really interested in counting the number of horrible endings Buddy could have gotten if Brad gave her what she wanted and didn’t save her.

I love this game because you can see it in so many ways, and in so many ways it tells a very dark, horrible, and wretched story that's good for nobody. It was...kinda like Brad wouldn’t exactly take the time to explain to Buddy and when he could he couldn’t properly due to the internal fear he had bottled up. There have also been times where Buddy would happily allow him in. Brad and Buddy are both terribly flawed people and are both really victims in the sorta world LISA is based in. That doesn’t excuse their actions now or in other titles of course. Brad had (most likely unintentionally) emotionally abused Buddy. Although never to the extent of Marty (especially since there’s no real hint of anything physical) it still affected her. Brad would constantly be in and out of a drugged/drunken state. Brad would deny her interaction with her uncles. Brad would explode at the mere mention of Dusty or the word ‘Dad’. He would never explain things to her, or give context. Brad would constantly suffocate her in that house. (Yes they go out I’m aware) He had even made her kill a man, even multiple. She was a child who was raised in a world full or murder and violence. What Brad had influenced onto Buddy although with good intention wasn’t the best way. Then seeing that same man slaughter entire armies, your uncles, crawling to you covered in blood and scars asking you to come back with him after all that. That’s absolutely scarring and traumatizing in a way especially for a young child. What you explained in a way is how Brad saw it. Of course. I doubt you’d act differently if you had been where Buddy was. You could never have expected Buddy to just allow him in and accept it so easily. I’m not saying Buddy is innocent especially in the sequel but Brad is the focus of the first game. Absolutely nobody was gonna get a happy ending. Of course I get Brad and he was flawed, I like his character. I don’t like what he does, I felt more pity when he died rather than sadness as I could never really feel sad over a character like Brad’s. The same goes for Buddy. I pity their characters and the darkness is what makes this game so amazing Did you really expect her to come out of this game undamaged?? (It’s just a game I’m aware but really.)

Moral of the story: In the world of the Lisa series, everything is Marty's fault.
@Origami84 Жыл бұрын
Meh, what to add that hasn't be said again and again? Brad was deeply flawed, but he was genuinely trying his best. Intentions doesn't justify bad results, but should at least offer some comprehension and empathy. He was trying. Which is why i, and a lot of other people, dislike Buddy. From a bird's eye, she does appear unreasonable and ungrateful. For all the bad things Brad did in raising her, he was 1) trying his best and 2) still being vastly better than basically all the alternatives she had in such a effed up world, something that 3) she should have noticed very early in her time away from him. His behaviour might justify Buddy saying that she wants to leave, to explore the world, even if it is dangerous, to not be with Brad anymore... but not BS line like "you have done nothing but hurt me" 10 seconds after he stopped the guy grating her face. That was just plain dumb. Like, really dumb. Like, so dumb it ruins a lot of other good things in the story. I am not saying to insert a scene where she hugs him, in pain and tears, but at least a moment of doubt where she does wonder if she was safer with him? Even if just for a while? .....it was just dumb. Marty is an ahole. Oh, you changed? Yeah, well, too late and too bad. How do you move on from such terrible actions? And if you really changed, if you are remorseful, than accept that your victims might still want and extract justice (revenge) out of you. Buzzo is a ridicolous psychopath. Just take away his damn plot armor, come on. Overall, i am not in awe of this story as everyone seems to be. I deeply dislike emotional manipulation with cheap tactics. This story would have been better with a more flashed out, reasonable Buddy and less excessively evil villains like Buzzo. Beside, the graphic and gameplay were really bad.

Most people who’ve played the series view Brad as a horribly flawed, but ultimately human and sympathetic character. I mean it was already bad but I’m sure seeing a man bigger than you slaughter your uncles and a whole group in front of you. Then murdering a warlord in front of you, approaching you covered in blood and scars - may be scary for someone her age. And beforehand it was implied that Brad’s (probably unintentionally) emotionally abused her especially when he doesn’t give context to many of the situations. Making her kill a man, or even multiple. Not to mention she’s being absolutely suffocated by Brad, either being constantly watched over or intimidated by his drugged/drunken state. I don’t think it would make sense for Buddy to NOT run away. Scared and confused and that’s what causes people to rebel. I wouldn’t feel like she was real if she clung and made up with Brad. I dunno - I guess many just don’t like it when things get harder for the characters. There’s no way Buddy couldn’t have become how she is in Joyful. I see it no real other way. But that’s just me

Even some of his companions wanted to rape her! Seriously what the fuck am I supposed to think about this other than a father trying desperately to protect his (ungrateful af) daughter from what he couldn't save his sister from the only ways he can. He tried to make it safe for her to go out. He made her a mask and walked her outside. He tried. And Buddy took it for granted

But learning he taught her how to fight back and seeing how she indeed demonstrated skill in fleeing from danger and surviving on her own... Brad's the bad guy... He sort of destroyed everything, Buddy actually had allies, allies that indeed could have had bad intentions, but personally I think that "the greater good" was a hyper good argument, even if Brad gave up on Joy, it was too late, it was too late.
