It is more about all the US regulations and taxes and insurance costs and employee costs that our government has created.. Liability insurance alone is very high because courts rule by feelings and give people millions of dollars.. In Russia they have laws that prevent this and many other things like redistribution of wealth schemes our socialist legal system does.. They try to claim that Russia does this but it is false, they learned a long time ago that this degrades a country from the inside.. Russia is certainly not perfect but if we honestly look at ourselves our government is far worse in many aspects.. Russia also has laws that are enforced about middlemen that do nothing but take profit and shuffle paper who prevent low prices from being passed to consumers by creating rigged systems.. Here in the USA I like to call this class of people parasites..

Your video reminded me of a store in our town when I lived in Pennsylvania. It was only open in the first few weeks of each month and was very crowded when the government assistance checks came in the mail to people who could or would not work. Shoppers use to actually get into fights over the best and cheapest meats and produce. Customers would often take things from other shoppers carts! The cashiers had to memorize the prices of meats and vegetables. By the end of each month, the people who usually shopped at that store had spent the money given to them for that month so the store was empty of customers. The owner of the store lost money if he kept the store open the last week of the month, so he would send his employees home without pay that week and close the store. Thank you for doing such a thorough job educating us about life in Russia.

The dollar stores here are cheap and I buy toothpaste and if I’m in the mood, frozen French bread pizza. Price is under $5 USD. Its been a decade since I shopped in a a grocery store since my assisted living place provides fresh prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner as part of the monthly rent so I don’t have to budget for buying food anymore. In America, Aldi offers a similar shopping model where they keep prices low with bulk cartons displaying items that are the store brand or specialty made for them. Its not an exact comparison because income in Russia is lower than its in the West. Inflation and the reduced buying power of national currency is universal and people try to stretch it so they can survive. Lisa, thanks for the look at low cost grocery shopping in the Moscow region! Looking forward to your next video here. 😊

In America, I believe our closest equivalent to the store you showed would be the ALDI supermarket chain. I probably buy one third of my groceries from them. I buy some of my food from an online vendor called Misfits Market. In America, supermarkets get their meat and vegetables from suppliers. The supermarkets reject food if it's misshapen, even though there's nothing wrong with it aside from its appearance. Misfits Market obtains those rejected fruits, vegetables and pieces of meat and sells them at a discount. I've gotten very good deals from Misfits Market. I also buy Polish food online. The rest of my food is bought from Amazon and local supermarkets. I mostly buy inexpensive store brands, but I buy the better-known brands on occasion.

@meatwad14 ай бұрын
@@GoodFella-xw8yx Maybe it depends on where you live. I live in Columbia, Missouri, where everything is much cheaper than Northeastern states like New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. I'm sure the groceries in my local ALDI are a lot cheaper than an ALDI store in New York City. Where I live, ALDI has lower prices than Dollar Tree. For example, dry pinto beans are 7 cents an ounce or $2.39 for a 32-oz bag. A 16-oz bag of dry pinto beans at Dollar Tree is $1.25 or 8 cents an ounce. I agree that food prices at all places have gotten ridiculously high and even at ALDI but, where I live at least, on most things, ALDI's prices are lower than their competitors.
