Would love to see your Paynes Grey CA compared to these blacks……..and whatever other dark CA’s you use. This is great, thank you again Lisa. And your Blue Heron sort of looks like a dark periwinkle. When I was itty bitty, my bedroom was periwinkle. And I still love the color, I’m 2 weeks shy of 62…………..yes, on Christmas Eve.

I’m Australian, I live in Australia, I have floetrol readily available. So why every time I mix Amsterdam and flo 4 to 1 I get the consistency of water. Not creamy at all . I see you all mix and I never get that consistency . So I thicken it more. So confusing. 🤔

When I was in Shelee's class at pourcone, she had a black cell activator. I don't know which one she used but when I was finished blowing it out and it dried with really deep lines of the black. More so than her white. Does that mean I didn't blow it out enough or was the black thicker that the white?

@saraclark49442 жыл бұрын
Love the colors! Beautiful triptych for sure! I have never used lamp black (pretty sure that’s what you said lol) I have always used oxide black. I completely agree black is finicky when used as a cell activator, I have much better luck when I mix it at a 3:1 ratio. You mentioned the lamp black seemed thicker so maybe the oxide is best at a 3:1 ratio 🤷♀️ anyway gorgeous work as usual!👍👍
@lisamarvinart2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes so finicky! So if you want to thin it, the ratio would be more like 5:1, 3:1 would make it thicker :)
@saraclark49442 жыл бұрын
@@lisamarvinart right, that’s what I am saying I have better luck when it’s thicker so I mix it at 3:1 ratio. You had said the lamp black seemed thicker and I think it produced better results in your experiment so perhaps if people are seeing finicky results with the oxide they could see if a thicker ratio helps. 😂 it’s been a long day not sure this comment makes anymore sense then my first one.

So have you seen Golden's interference paints? Any of the interference pigments are transparent they're absolutely made to go over darker colors if you were to adjust used the interference colors mixed with something like a acrylic medium or if you want it thicker a gel medium after dispersing them with a little Joe Sonia you would have something very similar to the golden interference paints the thicker or thinner the medium would determine whether it was the thicker body or thinner body paint. In other words interference paints are made to be a glaze and with a black canvas I have noticed that the interference paint does not like to move as much on black gesso I like it dries too quick and it really shows the brush Strokes and it doesn't matter if it's a mixed piggy or golden interference which I spend using since I stole them from my mom in the early 90s LOL. It's going to sound strange but try using a makeup brush like something that's made to put on powder foundation something that's supposed to help blend and buff you can actually use that to get some beautiful like glowing Halos I use it to show light glowing around a lamp in night scenes and also try prepping the black canvas with a little bit of acrylic medium over the gesso there's something about black gesso it makes interference paints act differently. I have been playing around with pigments almost as long as golden interference paint and up until this past January I had never done paint pouring I did a bunch of black and white spiral paintings that I use the interference so at one angle the painting will be black and white and at a different angle the interference paint gives it colors but trying to mix interference with a tube paint will most likely take away from the interference the paint you use could surround the pigment particles unfortunately the best way to get the interference is to use it over the color you wanted on which looks amazing for highlights sparkles dewdrops and with a makeup brush you can actually do a really cool blend on a black canvas with no brush Strokes because that's what makeup brushes are for

Lisa, they all turned out amazing. Do you think the cells were tighter with Lamp Black because it was thicker? I saw on my monitor that the Lamp Black is softer in color than the Oxide Black? Did you see that also? I love that color from Benjamin Moore, I haven't gotten any of their paints yet! Thank you for doing the side by side on the Amsterdam paints. Would you consider doing it again with the Matisse Black and the M Graham? Would be cool to see dried results of all of them to compare!👏🥰👍🏼❤️

Gorgeous color combo! Yep, I’m going to “borrow” those colors. LOL!
