I researched drums for a radio show a couple years ago. Modern drumming in general has a history reaching back to street performers who would kick a bass drum with their foot. Military drums are part of that history (what's a battle without a snare drum?). Circus music is part of the evolution and early 20th century performers developed the "drum conTRAPtion."
