J Dilla made either 28 or 29 of the tracks off Donuts while in the hospital. For the most part he only used a record player and his MPC 3000. While Donuts is partly meant to serve as a catalogue of J Dilla's talented musical ability and love for music, it also serves as a final message/love letter to his mother and brother. Some personal favorite moments off the record... Dilla flips the sample on Stop to make "Is that real?" sound like "Is death real?" Don't Cry is my personal pick for greatest song ever made. Though very simple, him chopping the drums with the original song layered on top and tapping out those layered drum samples to make an entirely new song has to be my favorite moment in music. Here's a video of legendary producers 9th Wonder, Flying Lotus, and some others geeking out over this track kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJbEk4qfm9Wjnas Finally, Dilla uses a sample which sounds like "I'll be" on Welcome To The Show as a final message to his family, implying many possibilities. "I'll be" alright. "I'll be" gone. "I'll be" waiting. "I'll be" there with you. I'll be; therefore, I was. J Dilla made Donuts when he was 31 years old. There are 31 tracks. One for each year of his life. Donuts released on Dilla's 32nd birthday. He passed away three days later.

sufjan stevens compares himself to john wayne gacy because they are both bisexual - its a comment on his internalized hatred of himself due to his queerness, how them being similar in that way means stevens could be capable of those horrible acts himself It’s really profoundly sad stuff but it’s not totally clear if you don’t know the whole history
