I remember when I first listened to this album I was put off with how "popish" and "Americanized" it sounded and how most of the songs were more positive and romantic than usual (especially since HYYH, Wings, and even Suga's mixtape was on the darker, more serious and socially conscious side) but after a few listens I truly admire how much adventurous they are with exploring other genres especially with Pied Piper having that Daft Punk-esque funk vibe and the Tropical-trap (whatever it is??) with Go Go. BTS, to me, has always been a group that is defined by 1. their experimentation of genres and trends around the world (ususally) before the kpop industry gets a hold of it and 2. their bravery in using their platform of music to approach sensitive or taboo topics in a way that is okay to commentate and criticize without it sounding biased or forced. They've definitely captured their fans by this because it makes them stand out from your typical male idol kpop group. I think a majority of the fandom (like myself) was initially put off by this new album because on the surface it didn't really capture either of those two points right off the bat: DNA, compared to other title tracks like BST or Not Today, was definitely the most pop/edm-infused track to date and is very upfront about how romantic and fortuitous the relationship is, which makes it sound like it could be a song from any other kpop group tbh. And the fact that the songs following it continued the trend of light, uplifting pop love songs with Best of Me and Dimple (also Serendipity and even Her I guess) is a somewhat drastic turn from BTS usual contrast of positive and negative topical songs. The songs afterwards (Pied Piper, Mic Drop, and Go Go) really turned it around and brought it back to what the fandom thinks of BTS but I have to admit that if you didn't really read into the lyrics of Mic Drop and Go Go one can easily miss the sarcasm and parodying elements they have in mocking others with those that are successful and top tier (in mic drop) and those that carelessly throw money around to live lavishly despite it not being the most responsible thing to do (in go go) and easily mistaken it for them being 'douchey' and almost bragging about their success (which I mean is somewhat justified considering how much they've accomplished in such a short time). But honestly after really listening to the songs, reading the lyrics and hearing what they have to say I think all of this was necessary for their growth. Love Yourself: Her is still a pretty solid album with most of the traditional 'BTS' elements just maybe not as pronounced as usual. The one thing I really hate hearing about this album is that people think BTS "sold out" with the heavy influence of "Western" sounds but I don't think its really that? They still continue to experiment with different genres and the fact that some worked and some may have not means that they could learn and take what they need and use again or not use and move onto the next genre they was to pursue. This was honestly a good break from their usual heavy hitting sound and deep, dark profane lyrics because I believe that the more one anticipates a certain sound, the harder it is to impress others when it comes time for the next song/album to be released. I also really don't like it when groups continue to produce songs of the same genre, of the same topics because it doesn't sound like they're developing as a musical artist, and BTS is one of the few kpop groups that continue to evolve and grow as artists (others that come to mind would be Seventeen, SHINee, and Highlight/BEAST). Most of the points in your video really helped summarize my own opinions about this album and with this being one of my first videos of yours I really appreciate your review on this album! Definitely subscribed and having my notifications on for you. I'm sorry I rambled so much but I hope you understand my view point of this album and it's response towards the fandom.

RM has talked about transitioning many times.. he said in a log that hes in a transitional period but we're always transitioning. "Present is present. Future too. The future is the end of the present, the present is the continuation of the past." In their recent press conference he said that theyre transitioning with the Love yourself concept. I hope people understand that 'Her' is a starting point. We have much more to discover.

I love your review of it, and I felt the same about a lot of the songs, in that I was really surprised by the genres in a really good way! I wouldn't usually listen to these genres, but there's something BTS did to them that made them more interesting and engaging. Go Go is actually mocking the culture of young people who use terms like YOLO and such, but using it when there's no substance there. It's a criticism of that entire mindset, and the endless repetition almost makes the words as meaningless as they've become in society (Yoongi commented on it at the press conference) .

i heard kind of the opposite about go go!! i read that one of them (i think rm but not sure) said it was about letting go of your worries, bc so many young ppl are worried about their economical state rather than living life then again i might be wrong as i didn't watch the press conference, tho i think it's an interesting take even if it wasn't the original intention

It almost half criticism of the lifestyle and half reassurance to young people that it isn't really their fault. The wording that it's aimed at young people is wrong, in retrospect I should have worded it differently. It's aimed at the society that created the kind of lifestyle that encourages this flippant spending without actually providing reliable living wages for the youth. So yeah, you are right on that front. It's a critique of society but also a way of trying to give some reassurance to young people in this situation.

it critizises the society and economy which have led to young people not having enough money to properly invest it in their future so young people are left to buy expendables and short term things. satire is only supposed to point middle fingers up to those in power, NEVER to kick the minority.

Go Go, based on what Suga has said, is a critique of Korean YOLO lifestyle. Your analysis of it is spot on. They want listeners to think this whole YOLO lifestyle is just that: douchy, nothing deep or introspective.

I don't get why some people are saying Mic Drop is too cocky for BTS' style when BTS have been making songs like this from debut days! From Rise Of Bangtan, So 4 More, DOPE, Cypher pt2 and so many more! They always been outspoken about their struggle and how they were treated in their debut as a group that would never make it, so them telling the haters hey look at our success, look at our trophies, look at our packed schedule, look at us travelling the world is understandable!

At first, I thought the same thing that you mentioned about "Go Go" being just a typical party anthem and although that disappointed me a small bit, I still felt that it was really interesting and catchy to listen to as well. Interestingly, since my first listen I actually came across some of the transcriptions from the press conference that BTS held before the album release. During it, Suga named it as their socially conscious song (saying it wouldn't be a BTS album without a song criticizing society). He said, "The current generation uses phrases like YOLO and have fun squandering money, but I don't think people think about why they use such terms so much even while using the terms". So I find it very interesting that they delivered it as a party song when they are kind of criticizing materialism through it. I also read someone that the repetition of the word YOLO so much in the chorus displays that repetition that Suga mentioned where after a bit, the word itself loses some of its meaning. I don't know if it's just me but when I know the meaning of a song, it can sometimes make it sound better to me. Not just the meaning of the words but the thoughts and intentions behind why those words were chosen and the delivery as well.

ZinniaT The song's lyrics could also be spun in a different way. Especially at 0:59 "There's already a mortgage on my future". Because in Korea, students have what is essentially a mortgage on their futures. They go to university on loans, but the system is awful. Once they graduate, they work themselves to the bone but they can barely feed themselves because of their students loans. I think they address that during 2:05. Their bank accounts have hollow legs because no matter how much money they make, they can never save up because they have to pay off a seemingly endless amount of debt. And if you really want to be tragic, it can sound suicidal. Korean students that are freshly out of university often kill themselves because of how crippling their debt it. They can't bear the fact that they're a burden on their families. The song can be looked at from the perspective of a person finally having fun, spending all their money without consequences because they won't be alive to face them the next day.

This was written so eloquently, haha. I agree with you that this song criticizes the careless spending of the youth. The song itself is satire. As non-korean speakers, we cannot point out the subdued hints of their criticism. To those who do understand Korean or some level of it, have said there's a sort of mocking and sarcastic tone to it which can explain the unique way members say, or drawl out their words.

We forget that Love Yourself: Her is the first of a 4-part series about youth in love. The parts are (intro-development-conflict-conclusion) As Rapmon mentioned in an interview, Her is the development part, the feeling of being in love. This is the context by which we should listen to the album. He said we'll understand later why the 2nd part came before the intro part. So i guess this is why the songs are softer, optimistic.

Honestly. I was confused when I first heard the album, it was totally different and I wasn't sure if I liked the change (personal taste), but after I really listened to the album I found that I love it. I really do. And god I also love that they are experimenting with a new sound, not because I was tired of the old one but because as artists they need that, they have the potential for much more and changing isn't bad, everybody goes through transitions to find other things they like. BTS has this thing were they manage to make genres I don't usually listen to enjoyable (more than enjoyable, I'm fucking boping to all) so I hope they keep experimenting, I know they're not gonna disappoint me.

I was like that too.. I LOVE the fact that they're trying out new things. Suga himself said it, the album wouldn't be a BTS album if they wouldn't criticize society. They did in in some tracks, so FOR SUre THIS is the BTS we know. They got a COMPLETELY different vibe with wings. THIS time they moved into the EDMish funky kind of genre wich is a great experiment. I LOVED wings. It had this darker, deeper soulful concept wich really suited that era. Considering the fact that LOVE YOURSELF is new era or basically chapter 3 of their story, wich is gonna parted in 4 subchapters I think, they wanted to make the beginning a little bit more brighter. 3 more albums are gonna come up and I'm sure they'll use some of the wings influenced genres again. I loved DNA. The fact that they talked about a soulmate and not just a person u love gives me ALL the BTS vibes from it. I think there is alot of the current BTS on this album rather than the old bts, I don't mean they've canged BUT we all know run inu era was soulful, soft spoken, insecure, melancholic. Where as love yourself HER is the beginning of falling in love, experiencing a first, being cocky but also emotional on some level. With this era they try to tell the story of people that fall in love experience all kinds of it, live in the moment , waiting or the turning point and then falling out of love. I think they did it purposely to surprise us to show us that they've got this vibrant, funny, futuristic side to them but also that this is the facade that they're trying to show, that behind this vibrant strong image they have , they're still vulnerable and insecure on wether they'll stay themselves, loving themselves. THAT is why I don't think they have changed, that this isn't their style. I think much of this is as ANOTHER side of them, the side they want us to explore. THAT is why we have to be there for them.

Definitely agree with your view on Pied Piper and Go Go. The fact that they're able to input rap with a funky song makes it overall interesting and very different. Pied Piper really caught my attention mainly because of the rhythm that they went with how it was a mix of funk and hip hop. This became my favourite track until I read the lyrics which made me love it more. And with Go Go I really was 50/50 on the song but then I read the lyrics and I really understood what they were trying to say and the song is fun to listen to as well. I really love that song, and after seeing the vid, I can't agree more that it has some Daft Punk sounds in it, but I was really taken aback by the lyrics. I immediately thought it was... condescending ? I'm used to savage BTS, and I like Cypher just as much as the next guy, but why diss their fans ? It's also by buying the pictures of them hanging in their rooms that BTS can afford to wear Gucci everyday (love u Tae). And it's by bonding over theories and memes that their fans can unite to get them awards. I dont' really understand what they're trying to say with this song, but the feeling I get, I don't like it. (the song's still dope tho, like the rest of the album)

Syneepsis Fair enough. I think a lot of fans got offended or felt off when they read the lyrics but how I see it is they're just telling the truth. A lot of us do tend to spend 100% of our lives dedicated to them which leaves us no room for our jobs, our studies, or our personal lives. While I understand that you think it might come across as condescending, I see it as a wake up call for some of us that, "listen you have a life too, we are thankful for your sleepless nights and endless supports but make sure you have time to study and do your job and live your life. Stop obsessing over us 24/7 and focus on your future too or you'll get nowhere." I do get where you're coming from but I can't help to feel that the lyrics actually have a deeper meaning than what we seem to think :)

I think that when it comes to bts, to expect the unexpected is and will always be a constant, music-wise, lyrics-wise etc. And with any bts album out there, there will always be people who like and don't like them, but it doesn't mean it's bad, or different in the wrong way. It's just a matter of what appeals or does not appeal to us. And as someone who didin't like this album as much as first, by constantly streaming, promoting and the longer I listen and analyze it, this album has definitely found its way into my heart (lol as if I haven't been attached to any of their albums at all), hence why I can relate to pied pipper. You don't necessarily know what kind of magic bts has with them, but still get drawn to them anyway. That, and interesting, unexpected things happening is something I'm a sucker for, I guess.

choochoosmokers lol *I'm dying* hear you saying it is ten times funnier ~ I was confused about the album yesterday, but after some hours I listened to the album again and the conclusion for me is: this is a good album, some song are my shit, I respect their experimentation, but DNA is really not my jam, I thought it was okay when I first listened but after listening to it several times I realized that I don't like it, I don't know the reason why, something there is really not of my taste, I probably got so sad that I didn't liked DNA that it was hard for me to feel the others songs right after DNA lol The highlights of the album for me are Best Of Me, Dimple, Pied Piper and Mic Drop the others songs of the album are really not songs that I would listen in a regular basis, they are cool, not my cup of everyday tea, but my cup of sometimes tea lol, but I hope they get a rest now tho

Oh, man... this album was a great surprise. Judging by the first two tracks, that were released (the intro and dna), I wasn't feeling it at all. The songs seemed a bit foreign to me. And you made a good point about fans, who were used to the broody, introspective themes and now are not satisfied with the result. That's an absolutely valid feeling to have. But damn... when the entire album dropped, I for some reason started with the Pied Piper and the groove sucked me in without mercy. It was definitely a whole new sound for BTS, imo. The lyrics are a different story, I felt personally offended. Just wow. Calling us all out like that... Good times, tho. But my personal fav must be Go Go. I am still addicted to that chill, but cocky vibe. It's just so wavy. I dig that. I am impressed that this album, which consists of just pure positive vibes, got into my system this fast. BTS did it again. Gotta spread these new found good vibes, man. As a wise man once said: "yolo yolo yolo yeh". Btw, the screams are just J-Hope, in his primal form. Most of the screams are made by him anyway. Can trust him with the hollering and all

Namjoon said in their press conference that this 'era' is the PREQUEL in the trilogy. Meaning this is the 'falling in love' stage, the HYYH (spring day, etc) is the 'relationship phase', and Blood, Sweat, and Tears is the climactic dark 'boy meets evil' finale. So if you look at everything in retrospect, from the lyrics in dimple especially since you mentioned it's very much like when you're in the dreamy beginning of a relationship. Also in the coloring of the music videos like your mentioned in your DNA reaction, you'll see how it goes in order from these neon tones, to a more subdued color scheme, then finally to the dark cinematic coloration in Blood, Sweat and Tears. Hope that sheds light on everything!

Power of BTS when they turn genre/music you usually don't like into something you'll listen to more. Also, Go Go's lyrics is actually a diss to people who live like what the lyrics described. And personally, above the "bangtan-style" that BTS built up, I think BTS is more of a representative of innovation, of always trying out new things, so I'm actually really really happy that they're continuing doing so, instead of sticking to what they can do since now they're big.

the "dushy song" it's actually calling out people who are spending money, splurging. So it's like a roast in a way. I think YOONGI (suga) had a big part in this song because he dislikes and hates peoples who just splurge. That also has to do with his past if you haven't read a few of his lyrics from his mixtape (Agust D) Also "her" is also written by YOONGI (suga) when he debuted or something an it's to show off the old style of the Rap line because now their rapping has changed. It's like a reminder for us ARMY. Also pied piper throwing shade at ARMYS. I do have posters of them but like I'm just trying to love them!😩 also I love your reactions! Strong power thank you for showing your love for the album! I know their not your bias group but still thank you! For your always honest opinions! I LOVED IT!!!!! I LOVE EVERYTHING IN THE ALBUM. I'm a seasoned Army an it's Definitely not my first comeback but I was caught off guard. I love the lyrics and I just love how they are experimenting. I see at as they've grown up. Personally at first I was a bit skeptical about this album because it's very different to the type of music I listen to. After listening to the entire album and seeing the lyrics I can say that even though this is not my favourite album, I really am amazed by how they experiment with different types of music and aren't afraid to do something new. I also love their connection with their fans. I can truly feel that army and BTS are connected. I have never felt so close to an artist before. Furthermore, I can say that I'm actually very happy to see them showing off and being "cocky". I really believe they deserve it after all this. We all know how humble they are. In my opinion I think this is a very good album, maybe not their best but still really good. I have come to love the songs and I am willing to try something new. They said that this album is their turning point so I am really excited to see what they do next and watch them evolve even more. You never know with BTS. They are full of surprises.

Love Yourself is not my favourite BTS album, but fuck do I love it!! it's one of my faves. Normally, there are songs in an album that I don't like but with this album there is not one song I dislike, but still, there is no song except Serendipity that I would give a 10/10, except "Ocean/Sea", which brings me to my second point, please react to it!! there is already an upload of it on youtube and you NEED to check it out. Outro: her is a throwback to the rapper line previous rapping style. They used to rap like this in tge past. As I would like to say, this is an album that grows on you, then just stays there. You won't discover how extremely good it sounds until you hear it more than once. I believe BTS made her as the prequel to their last albums the most beautiful moment in life and wongs, which seems quiteself explanatory of how a story develops from all is well, feel good vibes (her) to a turning point (hyyh) into disaster (wings), but thats just me haha. I really love pied piper and illegal because it just shocks me everytime I listen to it, in a good way. Best of me has an obvious choochoosmokers influence so I tend to skip it.

*LONG COMMENT OF EXPLANATIONS!* Sooooo... 1) 'Serendipity' is about love, obviously. 2) 'DNA' is about themselves (BTS) and ARMYs too. About a destiny. 3) 'Best of Me' is also from BTS to ARMYs. 4) 'Dimple' pure love song, nothing to add xD 5) 'Pied Piper' is kinda mocking us at first for being obsessed with BTS but then they acknowledge that we don't want our lives without them anyway and they also need us, so they "invite" us to fall into their trap even more. Not that anyone is against that LOL 6) Another diss to haters and bragging about success xD I think it's like a closure to the Cyphers (too bad though). Last words and a mic drop! Yes, Namjoon said it was inspired by Mr. Obama :) 7) 'Go Go' is a criticism towards "YOLO" society. This song is a pure sarcasm (my favourite thing xD). As Yoongi said "it's not a BTS album if there is no song criticising society". 8) Outro is also towards their fans. But here's a thing that I love the most about BTS' lyrics. You can interpret these songs for YOURSELF however you want. When you're listening and/or singing it, it can be about your love story as well, or love towards friends/family etc. In BTS' case, fans are their "lovers" (for now xD), so they make it towards them but in a VERY loose manner (except 'Dimple'), so it can have more meanings for everyone ^_^ I hope I've explained what I mean well enough >_

It actually took me 3 listening till my ears could adjust to the new music (DNA) . Infact,i could understand the music better after watching your reaction to it. And once i was set,i could appreciate the music much better, which honestly,on the first listen, sounded a bit chaotic to me. After that, all the other songs were really easy to pick up . Loved pied piper (mainly the chorus) . The vocals on best of me was wonderful (i feel like that's what saving this song from turning monotonous) . My favourite has to be serendipity and outro: her . Serendipity for obvious reasons (the music, the lyrics, the aesthetics, vocals, visuals ... everything was on point) . For outro:her, my favourite has to be Yoongi's rap (specially that low key humming before transitioning to his part of the rap) . He spoke so honestly about the troubling thoughts of someone who is constantly under the limelight and the price that the attention comes at . Worry go was a very interesting music for me too. Although i'm no music expert,i found it very different than what i hear normally these days . Ofcourse but i do not know about every genre out there so this would be just my opinion.

The ones I really liked from the first time I listened was mic drop and go go. I started to like the rest after I read the lyrics cause the lyrics really do complete the song. I feel like the divergence from their past styles makes sense when you look at it more as a progression of growth from a dark place in ones life to a brighter, healthier place. The members have spoken quite a bit about their own struggles and dark times through their past albums/mixtapes/logs etc. and have more recently talked a lot about growing through those times, and also about learning to love themselves. So it really should have come as no surprise that in the similar vein of being open and willing to share their learning experiences with their audience, that they have then come out with an album that is sourced from that brighter, happier, healthier place. They want others to learn and experience what it is to love oneself and this is a means by which they are inspiring that, or even just starting the conversation about it, just as much as they opened up the conversation for feeling oppressed as youth, or about depression, or even just their individual journeys (via their solos on the Wings album). I mean they even made that the name of the album, and have been very specific that this isn't just some fluffy, romantic, boy meets girl music. Not that there is anything wrong with light-hearted music like that, they have just openly said that this can be about any love, any relationship, even just you learning to love yourself. And in true BTS style they have thrown in a fair amount of social commentary just to keep things shook up a bit and to keep people thinking and on their toes. :)

The Go Go is another social statement about not worrying and just go. They said while the world is so messed up...Sometimes you just have to enjoy spending money on stupid tHings and yes, YOLO. I am happy that you listened to things more than once and read the lyrics. People get upset if too many songs are the 'same old Bangtan style ' but I have never liked a band before BTS that I listen to the entire album from debut til now and enjoyed every song. Now, are there my 'Favorites" playlist. Of course. But the album. Itself is current...Yet creative and forward thinking (you can tell they were in South America for almost 3 weeks). I mean ...Between the whistle and the recorder...The music was the bomb. Even though "Dimple" was less complex than most BTS mixes, it was such a good vocal line song with a catchy hook and a sexy, slow jam and I am digging it. Keep supporting the Boys and streaming on legal sites. #LoveYourself

I always love the way that they create depth in each song with many different layers of sound and the more you listen to them, the more you realise the extra things they have added to it. An example of this is including the Doppler effect of going past a train crossing signal in the beginning of spring day using the melodic line that also gave the sound of a train running over tracks. I love that they have tried out new stuff and I think they have added in a lot of sounds that they have always admired from American music, but make it their own. I feel like Go go is almost a commentary of how easy it is to just spend money for the fun of it once you have it, but you also have to be conscious of the future which is hard when you feel like you have made it already. Like how to love yourself in the present whilst still loving yourself in the future by preparing for it now

i really enjoyed your commentary, it was very thoughtful and besides the music i loved how you read the lyrics and caught onto so many things. i just wanted to comment on one more thing, which was your commentary on GO GO; it's an intentionally "douchy" song in a satiristic way. i'd go into explaining why, but rapmon's commentary on it does it the best: ""Go Go" is a trendy song, but it's about how our young generation are living their lives with low expectations and standards so people are upset with reality; they have little hope and there's so much economic hardship. We wanted to say something about it and emphasize to the world that it's not their choice, but brutal reality that forces people to live and spend as if there's no future. But in Korea, "YOLO" has become a big key word for young people because we don't have money and it's really hard to get a chance to earn a lot of money. I think society has a lot of problems for young people. Young people spend their money on claw crane machines at arcades and they spend like $30 on trying to win these dolls. And then it's like, "Oh! I spent all my money…shit. But I don't regret." That's the biggest luxury for Korea's young people: collecting accessories, cosmetics, that's what they think is a luxury. It's "YOLO" because it's like, "I'm gonna buy all this! I’m gonna buy all this food and I'm going to eat it! I'm going to do it!" I think it's sad because it's all we can do. "Go Go" is just saying, "Okay, just do it, we won't regret it. Just spend several bucks on the machine and eat the food!" But at the same time, the song is very easy to sing along to so I think many people will like that song, especially if they find the deeper meaning." also, 'her' is outwardly positive on purpose. it's only the first album of a 4 part series based on '起承轉結' (which is something you see appearing in the Love Yourself Highlight Reel titles) which basically gives out the structure of how a story builds up. 起 the beginning 承 the development 轉 the turn/twist 結 the conclusion. 'her' is just the first part which is intentionally overly positive bc there's still a lack of conflict in their stories. it's just starting off. but if you look at the 'outro's' (and the hidden track's) lyrics they already show a slight turn towards insecurities and doubts. so, bts is building up a narrative through albums, same as they did with hyyh. shit will turn dark and more serious in time, i do believe. anyway, dunno how much this interested you, but i thought i'd let you know since your video was so on point with the insightful commentaries. :)

*While listening to GoGo* "I really want to aggressively dab while listening to this" Wait until you see the dance for it! It is the memey-est choreo I have ever seen😂😂

I don't know if you or anyone for that matter is going to see this, but I really appreciate the commentary you give. It's so satisfying to see someone well versed in the music scene make comments and analyze music from an experienced viewpoint, whether your opinions were positive or negative. What made me happy was that I shared most of your opinion on these songs and noticed the same influences and elements you did, but why it makes me happy is because after spending so much time with music my entire life, I've decided to pursue producing as a career and I'm working on music with a close friend of mine. I really want to grow in musical experience and expand my horizons regarding that, and your channel has offered me the opportunity to see what things a producer is able to perceive and determine in a musical work. So I just really wanted to tell you that I appreciate everything you as a producer bring to the table, especially because it enriches and inspires me as a nascent producer. PS: I think I hear Seasons by Aso in your background and that makes me a million times happier.

I loved your reaction! today I listened to the hidden track 'sea' by namjoon and I have to say it was a mistake they made it a hidden track for me and almost everyone else from what I saw loved this track the most it's very different from anything in this album, very emotional even tho I don't know the lyrics yet but I could feel it in their rap and singing,, I'm kinda sad it wasn't the title track:/ I'd love to hear what you think about it and why you think they chose it as a hidden track even tho it could've done better in s.k

this was a really great reaction, you analysed it super well so thank you for that! I completely agree with you, it really is a change in sound. at first I was a little apprehensive but as I listened to it, I realised that as artists they're evolving and experimenting. despite this, they've still managed to inject their unique colour that makes me think hey. this is bts. I think the real measure of this is the fact that they've managed to make me listen to genres I've never enjoyed before and actually like them! not only is it a bold move but it's one that was risky and it paid off. I really do appreciate how they can transition between genres so effortlessly and I love watching them grow musically, a reflection of the world they've been exposed to and a desire to create music that reaches people. their intentions towards music have been the same since pre-debut, but the ways they're using to express it are changing constantly and it really feels so so wholesome. you should also check out the hidden track (only on the physical but it's been uploaded on youtube) called Sea. it's a really emotional song about how much bts have been through to get to where they are. thanks again!

Agreed, I love BTS for their lyrics and how much thought goes in. They tell their own story, but they also read fans' comments and turn them into lyrics too 😊

Didn't they say that the highlight reels and storyline have nothing to do with this comeback tho? They also said during their special vlive comeback that this album is a prequel to songs like "I need U" and stuff

I love the way this guy reacts to music. It isn’t JUST a reaction. He really pays attention to the vocals, visuals, everything and puts his input while ag the same time, fanboying lmao. But I absolutely loved how he explained “best of me” and when he talked abot yoongi’s voice. He always has the best reactions!

I will say, when I first heard DNA I was disappointed. Actually, when I heard the melody from the teasers I was hoping that the song would morph into a more darker tone, which has been BTS's style over the years. However, after streaming all day yesterday and listening to the album multiple times, this whole new concept has started to grow on me. I only hope that in the coming years BTS will create their own unique style (which I could start to see in this album) and not revert to the traditional poppy/happy tones that categorizes KPop. Not saying that anything is wrong with that however, I hope BTS can continue to stand out as they always have.

Onyx Kim mm yes I found it quite hard to process this album at first because bts has always had atleast some angsty / aggressive / dark aspect to their songs ( ofc they have had cute + happy songs before) but this album is incredibly happy and lovey and mm different. Despite that the songs are still good and I think I'll grow to love them ( even tho it's more pop than I'm used to)

in her i think it was namjoon singing first and then suga sings "i call you her, her, cause you're my tear". (wait, i went and listen to it again and i think it was actually yoongi singing the whole chorus wtf i'm in shock) i love this album, i get why other people were kinda disappointed, but i loved all the songs. Even dna, i didn't liked it at first but it grew on me. my favorites are pied piper, mic drop and her. chill rap songs are my shit too also i'm kinda annoyed jake paul ended up in the album lmao

MIC Drop's soundscape is really interesting to me, like I can definitely hear these sort of Agust D-ish motifs, like the auto tune warbling you mentioned. It was super refreshing to hear, almost like a sonic palette cleanser for the album. I'm such of a fan of this album. Everyone who worked on it over at bighit knew what they were doing, and it really shows. Go Go and Pied Piper were my personal favorites, but Dimples was soooo catchy. Honestly this album was strong in just about every area, definitely in my top 5 for 2017.
