Listening Room Tour 4: My First Receiver

This is my fourth listening room tour where I hi-lite my first stereo receiver I bought while in college back in the mid-1970s. I also show a pair of two-way base reflex speakers from Sweden that were a hit in the 1970s from Sonab. Finally, I go over what I have done and purchased since the Covid-19 stay-at-home requirement occurred. I use my listening room to stay healthy too, watch and see.

Hey Virg, just getting better and better. Fancy transitions. Love Nina Simone, Donald Bird, Chet Baker & Blue Note. Those Sonabs also the 1st to make speakers with a bass reflex system. Great how you are spending your time during these crazy times. A terrific example for the rest of us. Good for you. Looking great.

Just use a big ball of Blu-Tack massage it now and again keep it supple and massage it before using first time just leave it on the turntable between the arm rest and the record just dip it in the blue tack and then onto the record

Hey Scott, thanks for your question. I have collected maybe five 12-inch 45 RPM singles (Steve Winwood, Fine Young Cannibals, Rolling Stones for example). I did buy a MOFI release of Miles Davis/Kind of Blue a few years back. The sound quality is great, but playing one or two songs per side and flipping the album is a bit annoying. I have a VPI belt driven turntable so I have to move the belt on the pulley. The other issue is storing and protecting the nice box the two 12-inch disks reside in. I know you have many boxed sets of LPs and they take up space. I have about 100 7-inch 45s that I have collected. After I restore my Pioneer PL-630 direct drive TT (motor speed issue/mystery) then I’ll play my 45s. Moving and dropping the needle on my VPI to the small edge of a 7-inch 45 is scary if the needle hits the aluminum platter.
