I grew up on nu-metal. Was a junior in high school when Korn made it big with Follow the Leader. Got to see Deftones performing at the Warped Tour in '98...still one of the best shows I've ever seen. I was into The Deftones for the aggressive songs. Stuff like My Own Summer, Engine no. 9, 7 words, Elite, Headup, and Rickets hit me just right at that point in my life. Eventually I got into much heavier stuff. I still love all forms of death, thrash, and grind...yet 20+ years later Deftones are still the only band I listened to from that era who still maintains full credibility because they didn't put out the same album over and over. They evolved, they matured, and they became the best version of themselves. Even during the Around the Fur/Adrenaline era it was really unfair to define The Deftones as "nu-metal" because they were so far ahead of their time, and now they are so far from the nu-metal moniker it's kind of insulting to consider them ever being part of that sub-genre. I have so much respect for them and can't wait to see how they will sound 5-10 years from now.

Greatest experience I had listening to Deftones was when I was in a hotel and it was pouring rain outside. Mind you I was quite drunk when this happened. I looked out the window, and just admired how the light from the city reflected in the falling rain and how it cast skewing rays of light into the room. Entombed from Koi No Yokan came on the speaker I had in the room and I became so entranced I stood at that window looking outside for the entire duration of the song.

I was introduced to Deftones at a young age when Cooler's Revenge came out. I had no idea that at that time I was being introduced to one of the greatest bands on the planet. It certainly helped that the song they used for the movie, "Change" was played at a very appropriate time that sent chills down my spine and I occasionally from time to time look that scene up on YT just to re-capture that moment. Just brilliant.

Last night I laid in the bed of my truck during a clear sky full of stars(I live in the woods in Michigan) and played Tempest for the first time. Felt like it was speaking to me as I melted into the view. So good, even saw three shooting stars, a record for me in a 5 minute sitting lol. Sometimes I’ll even bring my guitar and play songs off white pony. I think for a long time the thing I was missing in my life was Deftones, as silly as it sounds it made me understand myself and other things and people around me in a different way. The songs express feelings of melodic pain and seething happiness if that makes sense to anyone other than me. They are one of those bands that make something that makes sense to us more than our own emotions sometimes, I really appreciate them.

Wasted off riot juice, high as fuck, watching the sunset after an 8 hour shift with my friends, deftones blaring. What memories could i ask for, when they are being made right there.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion... I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain...
