Hi Adam, the Crossley needs a full restoration and it will look great. The Lister D up and running that's great and the spark plug tester don't paint it , looks good as it is the spark plug say's Champion, Made in Canada not England. Great video Take carer

You're supposed to hold the air valve down to start the Lister d from cold.

The D is a normal clockwise rotation model, reverse rotation engines have the carburettor closest to the fuel tank. As for the air valve on the carburettor normally for starting if needed hold it down to choke the engine a bit.

On your spark tester, I think there should be a small ball bearing on top of the little spring for the gap selector.

I do wonder about you at times! 😂 the plug from the tester, why didn't you put the lock ring upside down in the vice jaws and then get the spanner on its base n bobs your uncle! No need to do the vice up tight, just kiss the ring within the jaws. Think of it as a big fixed adjustable spanner. You made a simple job more difficult 😉

Adam, lister D , push flywheel backwards to you feel compression, tickle float, turn carb screw3/4 hold down the intake valve and crank ,if the timing is set up correctly it should fire into life first time. The crosley will look awesome with a paint job .
