M & S 73 is an Army Corps of Engineer training module which most probably required the use of the D6 R Cat dozer. M = module; S = simulation 73 = the training designation. Provided gratefully by a US Navy veteran at nodded cost!!!

M&S is modeling and simulation, so it was used in creating battlefield environments. The engine harness plug melting is normal because the plastic distorts/melts at 220-230° and hot oil does it. Just wait until you get one leaking oil from the plug in the rocker box from the oil pushing through the wiring. Too bad you don't have anymore unimog/Freightliner emplacement/engineer trucks. You can take a vacuum pump with a old jar catch can inline to a piece of clear plastic tube and go down the injector holes into the cylinders to remove fuel/oil from changing injectors. Cat got the injector design from Bosch, who licensed them to Navistar

Ahh, okay! I looked it up last video and saw that too but thought M&S was all virtual battlefield stuff, not actual ranges, etc. I wondered why the Army had a civilian spec Cat but it makes sense they did for a dozer that lived its life doing that. All the extra stuff needed for a tactical spec dozer is $$$$$ and would be unnecessary. This was probably operated by a contractor anyway, not a 12 series guy.

You need to get a exhaust suction unit. Fire departments use them so the exhaust fumes don’t smoke out the bays. It’s just a hose that goes over the exhaust pipe.

I'm glad your parts weren't lost for too long. A shipping company lost my brand new $6k Deere zero turn mower along with someones skid loader, Gator UTV, and another mower for a week. The truck and driver were completely M.I.A. according to my Deere dealer. After reading the fine print on the Deere sales ticket, they are not responsible for items lost in shipping. I was sweating it for sure. Luckily everything was found, tragedy was averted and the town was saved, haha. Thanks for the great video guys!

Maybe an idea to fit an extractor with flexi pipes that you can drop over exhaust pipes and then extract the fumes straight outside 👍🏽

Clint you could run metal ducting in an area on the roof with T joints branching off, then have flexi hanging down with end caps when not in use. Or a more budget friendly set up would be an extractor on wheels with flex set up for dropping on the exhaust and then just run it under the door, easy to pack away when not in use, that way you could also use it on small projects. Maybe worth thinking of also for the new set up 👍🏽

injector harness is a typical issue in these engines. When i replace it. always order seal for valve cover and for base also, and remove base. to drain oil from HEUI gallery there is a plug under the valve cover, which allows you to drain most of the oil to the sump. and don't forget to shut off fuel supply and return lines, especially in dozer because high mounted tank allows fuel to fill in whole engine (prooved). About filters, round CAT air filters are made by Donaldson. So if you order Donaldson, you will get CAT filter only with different number.

I just bought a Milwaukee 1” tire gun and it kicks ass for not having to deal with having a huge air compressor to run a 1” tire gun! I use Milwaukee for all my electric tools. Even has some corded stuff of Milwaukee because sometimes you just need the power of corded!

44:49 - that’s the local tracking number for the item. I’m guessing that M&S stands for the base maintenance yard, and 73 is the item number assigned to it. If it were assigned to a military unit, there would the higher echelon identifiers on the drivers side, front and rear, and unit identifier on the passenger side; e.g., 7 EN 9 EN on drivers side, D CO 46 on passengers side indicates, 7th Engineer Brigade, 9th Engineer Battalion, D (Delta) Company unit item number 46.

"Do not clean filter". The reason why you should NEVER clean the inner filter is because that is the SAFETY filter. It should never be needed but if it is needed it needs to be 100% condition to ensure the engine doesn't suffer from dirt entry. Cleaning filters does damage them whether it is blowing them with shop air or "industrial" cleaning. Whether this is worthwhile is a customers decision, but it is adding risk to the engines life. Cat recommends to NOT clean ANY filter - but it does provide information if the customer still wants to do it. Also remember that if a filter gets blocked it is because it is doing its job. Rather than be concerned with the filter look at ways of taking the load of it pre filters or shorter change intervals. On the fuel side. Injectors are expensive US$5000 for the 6 ReMan injectors. Keeping water out is REALLY important. With diesel that has Biodiesel this is particularly important in the storage tank - otherwise algae grow REALLY well. So good water management is IMPORTANT and perhaps a biocide is needed. On the equipment good primary and secondary/water filters are needed as well as the fuel tank air inlet filter (air for making up for used fuel). What matters is how much contamination gets to the injector when the engine is operating. Cat make the best filters in the business - they have a video and brochure comparing NAMED competitive filters using a C9.3 head. The differences are amazing for what are all (most) are meant to be good quality filters from memory Cat, Fleetguard, Donaldson, Baldwin & Wix A rule of thumb is the newer the style of fuel system the MORE the filters have to improve to keep it reliable. And with HEUI systems (oil controlled fuel injectors) you ALSO have to keep your oil in good condition. Putting better filtration on never hurts - but going the other way does To give some sort of idea about the changes over time. Tier 0 Pump & line - didn't need a lot and changing the injectors didn't cost much 5,000 PSI Tier 1 Unit injectors / PT injectors - pressures are up and so clearances are tighter - better filtration is introduced 15,000 PSI Tier 2 Unit Injectors / HEUI / PT injectors - pressures increased further 21,000 PSI Tier 3 Unit injectors / Common rail - pressures increased further 25,000 PSI Tier 4 Unit injectors / Common rail - pressures increased further 30,000 PSI I worked for Cat (the company, not a dealer) so yes I have drunk the coolaide :) BUT it was might CLEAN coolaide.... Cat develops the filters & fluids to protect the equipment as it is the EQUIPMENT life that people buy when buying Cat. Last I heard over 98% of Cat filters where exclusively Cat filters - not just another companies product painted yellow. Given Cat's product over the years includes engines from many other engine manufacturers it isn't too surprising that its not 100%.

Clint, if you didn't know, Snap On make solid square drive sockets for those fittings that look like can use extensions, or ratchet heads on, I snapped my 1/2 inch drive breaker bar on a final drive fitting. It sheered right across where the locking ball is. I got the 3/8th, 1/2 and 3/4 drive ones. Keep the videos coming , greetings from Perth in Western Australia 🇦🇺.

Injector failures due to the wiring is pretty common. Had a 06 Freightliner with a C9, needed at least one or more injectors every other month as the connector melted on the injector. Fun fact Caterpillar and International were working on an engine without a cam shaft in the late 90s using the same HEUI system to open the valves. Heard about it when I was in tech school in 00-01.

In fire departments they have pipes like glorified dryer hoses with blower fans to attach to the exhaust pipes and pull the exhaust out of the station. Maybe it's time to look into a system like that so you don't have to hang the doors open.

Hi fellas, just noticed on that transmission there should be a belly guard to protect that magnetic strainer, once that is smashed you are in a spot of bother. On the blade issue that is a type of quick drop valve and will most likely need to have the air bled from it to work. Good luck with it. thanks from down under.
