Merci !

Having had the privilege of hearing this magnificent instrument in person some 20 years ago. In my mind, this is Aristede Cavaille-Coll's greatest masterpiece!

This is one of my favorite recordings of organ music of all time. I would play a lot of organ music on my Halloween radio show when I was in college, and while I always appreciated organ music, it wasn't until I heard this recording that I feel in love with organ music. Pierre Labric's fast tempo adds to the gloominess of the piece and the Cavaillé-Coll organ's Contre Bombarde has a deep throaty sound that you can hear vibrating the building. When I play the recording on iTunes via a sound bar, it vibrates my living room as well. There is a lot of great organ music on this channel, its a shame that there haven't ben any new postings in a while.

The warmth and clarity of this composition is amazing especially in the middle section. Very few musicians can bring out these sounds since this is such a vast sounding instrument. Wonderful!

...anyone who has heard a (good) performance of his Fantasy & Fuge on Ad nos, ad salutarem undam, should realise that the organ is a perfect medium for Liszt's musical genius. He Spent time in Paris where he heard Franck improvising at Ste Clotilde. This so moved him to the point he remarked that Franck was either the reincarnation of Bach or the devil himself.

If you want THIS version-13 minutes, DON'T order solstice SODC264. It has the 10 minute version, which doesn't do justice to this version. Very disappointed. Will just listen to the better one here on KZbin.

The Solstice CD has a much earlier recording his performance of this piece from 1974. Based on the date from this video, this recording is from the 1990s.

Good grief, doesn't anyone take care of these organs. Every one of these "Famous" organs are filthy dirty. Who knows what the interior action is like. This instruments are supposed to be treasures - icons of French organ building certainly among the finest organs in the world and they sit neglected and uncared for. Yes, France, as a nation, owns the churches but the churches are granted permission to use them as long s they are taken care of. These fabulous organs are NOT being cared for or they are being "Rebuit" by idiots who think they are more creative than Cliqout and A. C-C. Everything in that building is covered with dust. What neglect. Let even a small fire start and disturb that dust and there will be an explosion that will wipe out every window in the place. Boy - there a lot of low tin content pipe in that organ.

@@2468HOTROD Hi Wayne. My sentiments especially since I build, rebuild, restore and maintain these monstrous musical instruments. Oft times when they do receive attention some fool who thinking he knows more than the original builder changes pipies. I have added stops, but never replaced pipes or ranks. Tearing out original pipes is like painting over a van Gogh

Will anybody be brave enough to rebuild this organ? It must be falling apart. It has been estimated that 3/4 tonne of dust has fallen into it, the leathers must have collapsed. How about a European fund to rebuild this treasure?

Sounds totally satanic or like the soundtrack of an horror movie, makes you wonder why they play this kind of stuff in churches haha. I visited the Saint-Ouen church last week and they were playing the organ, it was impressive already but not as impressive as this recording :p

Not a clear recording. Not a good criteria in organ registration balance. Not a good interpretation. A real pity considering such a paramount instrument.
