Hi, I just got the APP and Phantom 3 advanced and also use a Yuneec. I got the phantom instead of the typhoon H which is expensive and not up to DJI standard yet. So in effect I have 2 quads that have the features of a P4 and 4K yuneec and the saving of a OZMO for less than a price of P4 or Yunnec H. the Litchi app is amazing so I am trying to how ne people in this amazing subject not to go out and buy the most expensive drone first. Buy and upgrade and watch videos like yours that show you dont have to have a P4. GET A LITCHI APP. thanks good luck with your channel im subbed

For anyone having problems, this is what Litchi told me explaining why I was experiencing issues with the follow/tracking features. "For Track you will want to use high performance device, otherwise it won’t work well as Track runs directly on the mobile device.vWe recommend at least iPhone 7,8,X or iPad pro. Also we recommend a non wifi drone as wifi adds more lag to the equation. But the most important is the mobile device." I was using an iPhone 6S and DJI Phantom 3 4K.

The only caveat is that you must keep the controller always pointed towards the drone. I'm going to review it soon, but I'm getting 3000+ feet (distance away from controller) flights now.

I the beginning of your vid you are jogging with several follow shots where the drone appears to have no issue following you. Next up you have the screen recordings where the drone looses you several times. My drone looses me instantly on the slightest movement. Did you make any changes to get the much better jogging jogging results as compared to your screen shot results?

+Mike Jordan I've noticed that brighter days make a huge impact, as well as having a background the contrasts well with what I'm wearing. So for example, if I'm trying to get the drone to track me on a darkly paved parking lot, I will have much better results if I'm wearing light-colored clothing versus dark clothing.

Techy Agent I was standing in a very large green well manicured field on a cloudless bright sunny day wearing a red shirt. if I moved 1 step my P3 corrected and over corrected loosing me almost instantly . I tried the focus on a building. As soon as I moved the Drone at all, same thing.

I love Litchi because of the waypoints and orbit function but follow me needs some work. It has problems keeping you in the tracking box

Yes, it does. What I have found is that the follow function works best if the background is consistent (like a field) and contrasts well with the subject. It makes it easier for it to track. But yes, it still has issues.

+james henrikson I have the paid version, you can download and purchase it from the android or iOS app stores. I'm not sure what the app costs, but I if I remember correctly I think I paid 10 or 20, but it could have gone up.

Nice video!!! Im sure you heard about the dji go app latest update making it impossible to fly with weak to no signal issues. Have you had any of those issues with litchi? Just curious because I think everyone will be looking for a 3rd party app if dji doesn't get there stuff together!

great video! I have a p3S and i just got the ap. how well does this feature work? It seams pretty weak. Is it a strong follow? even higher speed / juking movements like running sprints or bike riding?

It depends on what your "backdrop" is. If the lighting is good and the backdrop is a stark contrast to your body, it will easily follow you. But if it's dusk, or if the background is too close to the color of the clothinng you are wearing, it can get thrown off a bit.

I’m hoping my new Litchi app will enable me to track and follow dogs (retrievers) on my Mavic Mini. These talented animals race out 200-300 yards, pick up a duck and return with that duck back to the handler. Doing this manually (i.e., keeping the dog in the screen) is tough due to the dogs’ speed. Do you you think the Litchi app will be up to this demanding task and do you have any suggestions for maximizing my success?

+Rodrigo Osorio Larrain Yes, the DJI app has a more intuitive feel. Also, I ALWAYS boot up the drone in the DJI app to make sure that it has the latest firmware update and to let the GPS home point reset. Once the GPS home point has reset, I exit the app, swipe it away to close it, and open up the Litchi app. From there I can be confident that the home point that is saved on the drone is updated, and it's running the latest firmware.

+Rodrigo Osorio Larrain you can set the home point, yes, but I prefer to do it with the DJI app only as a safeguard in case there are any compatibility issues with the latest firmware on the drone and the most recent version of the litchi app. In other words, I try to keep my safeguards "stock" but my flying experience custom.

is it possible to let the drone follow us on the side ? for example : let the drone point at us on one side and we walk , will it fly by side or it will just orbit the camera ? I saw that the drone can follow from our back or front but I am not sure if it could fly and follow by our side or not. If yes will it specify the minimum height ?

+Jesse W. There is a way to get this affect that I've used many times. You can set the focus on yourself and then tell the drowned to orbit you. Once the drone orbits to the side of you, you can begin to walk or move and the drone will fly alongside of you attempting to orbit. But since you are moving, it will not be able to orbit, so it will just fly alongside of you until you stop and then it will begin its orbit again. It takes some experimentation with the speed, but the effect is nice.

I tried to do this. I put the drone in function mode. then I clicked the follow mode. it just comes up with a menu of how high and far away the drone should be and doesn't let me draw a rectangle around the subject. the drone just flies off completely randomly and I have to take control.

Usually the app will tell you when you initiate that mode. I think it's F, if I remember right.

I hate to bother you but I don't know where else to ask this question. I own Litchi but when I try to follow it says "Your GPS location is not accurate enough to start Follow mode" probably because my device doesn't have a GPS. I can try out Magic Leash tomorrow, but from what I see in your video Litchi is following based on the video from the camera, not from a device that is in your pocket. So why does Litchi need a GPS location from a device? Do you have a device in your pocket? Will I need to carry a device for it to follow me? Also, why is your user interface different from mine? I just downloaded a week or so ago. Thank you so much for any answer to my questions or for pointing me to where I can get answers!

+KingmanTV my user interface is different because this video is a couple of months old and they have updated everything since then. The reason you have to have GPS on your device is because the GPS location of your controller is sent to the drone for referencing. You must have GPS on your device for Litchi to work correctly, even if you use a feature that doesn't require GPS.

To answer my own question, Follow Me uses the GPS in the device and Tracking uses the visual.

Are you using the DJI go app or the Litchi app? Also, the gimbal will track up and down, but to move it side to side you must rotate the entire drone. The gimbal itself doesn't have a left-right axis like the more advanced DJI Inspire does

Its very bad in tracking compared to the DJIGo4 app. Its struggling to track actually. And track moves are also not silky smooth. The only feature i honestly feels Litchi shines is in bringing Waypoints to drones like the Mavic Air etc. Offering offline planning and programming of missions for waypoints. But now even this is changing with Waypoints 2.0 where DG4 has it inbuilt for the Mavic 2 Pro etc. That has almost all the same functionality of Litchi waypoints, EXCEPT in Litchi you can do it offline. You have to do it with the drone powered up even while programming a flyby seq, HOW DAFT is that on DJI's part.
