In my experience this happens just as often with “spades”. I was trying to teach poker to a girl I was seeing once who actually legitimately broke up with me and left because she thought I was being racist for calling a spade a spade. I tried to explain, but she wouldn’t believe me, this was before smart phones, but I did have a laptop and she refused to look at it. TBH things weren’t going great between us anyways so it wasn’t a big loss, but it was so frustrating that it really stuck with me.

Hey here’s a really cool subtlety to make this even better: shuffle them. You can totally get away with shuffling the deck while doing a key card, IF you do an overhand shuffle. Just make sure that you know about where those cards are in the deck, and make sure to keep that block as is. That way the couple of cards you care about are still in the same order, while also shuffling, thus proving it’s not a key card effect. While it is. This fooled me badly when I first saw it. I was like “I saw you shuffling them, it can’t be a key card!” And it was.
@DWish8083 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. You have to be the one doing the shuffling though or the other person could do an "every other card perfect shuffle" and that would screw it up, especially if the cut before the shuffle was on those cards. It's much safer and easier to use the method he used. It also allows the other person to be involved physically with the cards making it seem more legit.

This trick! I learned this trick as a kid when I was in my magic phase and it stuck around. Probably 10 years later just casually hanging out with my family when my sister starts pretending to do magic (Sneaking a peak at the card before putting it in the deck etc, really obvious stuff) and then I pulled out this trick without having shown any "magic" skills in the past and she was completely blown away! That moment still sticks with me to this day. This is one of those tricks you should memorize in case one day a niece or nephew or some other excitable kid wants to see a magic trick and you can amaze them by doing one!

Was taught a similar version (by an older brother in the '60's) where You can ask the person to place the card anywhere in the deck by riffling and sneaking a peak as they place their card in the deck. I actually shuffle the cards a few times (by cutting in my hands), and then quickly turn over each card face up onto the table, when the 'key card' shows, (with an extra little flick) toss out the next card and say "Woah, was that your card"
@toxigenic3 жыл бұрын
Josie is so funny! She always cracks me up and brightens my day. You guys are awesome!

my favorite about this trick is how easy you can shut down hecklers after it. you can easily and simply explain it by saying you were able to read their face and it still sounds amazing. also, i highly reccomend memorizing the card that is above and below theirs because then if a they try to mess you up by doing a bridge shuffle or something similar you can transition into anothwr cool trick. most of the time a bridge shuffle will only leave a few cards in between the key cards so you can spread them all out on the table and pretend to memorize the order. all you have to memorize is the order of cards between the key cards. turn around and ask them to move their card somewhere else in the deck as neatly as possible, and when you turn back around it seems as if you actually did memorize the whole deck since you can easily point out which card moved

parent-child goals, please teach us the way. but on topic, my uncle showed me this almost exact trick while i was young, except that he picked it up and shuffle it randomly (like a hindu shuffle) and found my card without the final twist. this final twist is great, im going to use it, thanks for sharing! one tip i have is that while setting the deck down you can also rotate it 180 so that it tilts to you for a brief peek, so it doesn't appear too obvious you are looking at the bottom. imagine holding the top part of your phone to turn it 180 and then continue to turn it back.

There is a slight problem that could arise if when doing all the cuts you or the person you are doing the trick for coincidently cuts exactly so the key card and the chosen card are apart. I have had that problem happen a couple times when doing a key card based trick and doing the cut as many times as you want to "mix" the cards especially with an older deck or if you don't square up the deck after doing the initial cut. I know it is unlikely that the cards are cut to split those two cards apart from each other but if it does happen you won't know and there is no fail safe for it.
@mrOizo893 жыл бұрын
This special case was addressed in the video 00:06:50. The trick can't go wrong as long as you (or your spectator) don't split the deck into multiple packets. Normal cuts don't change the order of the cards. It's like keys on a ring. Hope this was helpful :)

This one can also be nice if you're willing to be a bit risky with it. With light shuffling (like the random pile "cuts" that Brian warned about) it's unlikely that the key card will be separated. You mean if you do the cut so that the original bottom card and their card which was on top are side by side and then you cut and split them apart again? Same order. You just put your card back where it was and the trick works the same. Think of the deck as a rolodex. It's a full circle. No matter where you "cut" the deck, the order isn't changing
@sergioaugusto1663 жыл бұрын

@@sergioaugusto166 Nope, the trick still works. If the deck is cut between the two cards, the result is your "bottom card"( which you already know) is once again the bottom card. Then their chosen card becomes the top card. Another cut (doesn't matter if it's 1 card or 51 or anything between), then your card will once again be on top of their card. If they do not cut again after they managed to cut between the two cards, then you have the case where your "bottom card" is the last card you flip and their card is the first one you flipped just like how he stated it in the video.
