This is by far the best Half-Life 2 tribute I've ever seen. The part with Gordon shielding Alyx with his body in what they thought would be their final moments by the underground elevator was beautiful. Almost makes me wish for a full movie.
@metatrontfАй бұрын
I've watched this sooooooo many times since first finding it last night. I just love it so much and can't believe how underrated it is, it deserves so much more attention. I binged all of your HL videos and I'm just left yearning for more. Seriously, I don't even know where to begin with this. I'm the biggest Gordon simp on the planet, so these videos... aaaaaarghhhhhh, they're heavenly. I love how expressive you make him. The helmet with the transparent visor is awesome because he can still give away SO much with his brows and eyes. I have so much I want to go over. 1. It's so cute how you can see Gordon warm up to Alyx throughout the video. 00:08 is so good because Alyx already looks shy and into him, but he just gives her the silent side-eye. Funny and adorable. 2. 1:13 is an insanely good touch. Gordon just witnessed something horrific, and the way he's trembling, whilst doing something as mundane as drinking a soda to calm his nerves, is so real. 3. 1:39-2:00 IS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD. And it really builds up the Gordon/Alyx relationship. Seriously, just put yourself in Gordon's shoes. He's gone through hell, he's witnessed and endured so much non-stop bloodshed and pain. He's had to do everything alone. Whenever he interacted with someone, it was someone trying to kill him. Now that he's with the Resistance, his interactions are usually reduced to just him taking orders and doing things. He's got Alyx to work with for that, but for the first time since before the cascade, someone held him. Someone genuinely worries for him, doesn't see him only as the mythical figure. The shaky "Oh, Gordon," was so good and the hug WAS SO DAMN TENDER. Alyx's expression was so well animated, you can tell how deeply she feels for him, and you can see the realisation wash over Gordon as he takes it all in. All the heinous shit, the people he saw die, his mental breakdown in Surface Tension. It all comes back to him as she hugs him, and he lets himself feel it until he just hugs her, too. 4. 3:04-3:32. This is such a good sequence. Gordon being the shield whilst she's the weapon. Honestly, it's such an awesome touch for Gordon to use his body to shield her. It also shows how fucking scary the elevator battle is. In game it's cool because we have infinite reloads, but without game mechanics that shit's terrifying. You really captured the intensity. And of course, 3:30-3:32 is such a good way to end it. I just love how tender Alyx is with Gordon, how she strokes his hair after something so scary. He's the sweetest most amazing bestest boi and he deserves no less. Just amazing overall. I really adore how expressive your Gordon is. The eyes and eyebrows, they just say so much. I love this. Sorry if the comment got a bit long, I just think that content with this kind of effort deserves a comment with at least a bit of thought put into it. I really hope you'll upload more, because your content is amazing and underrated! I love Gordon and I just can't get enough of him, so please give us more Gordon animations, haha
@thedappercharizard2302Ай бұрын
Dude right? A man of no words capable of expressing a metric fuckload of emotions with just his facial expressions. And to kinda touch on that elevator thing, you only have as many reloads as you have ammo, that elevator sequence had me tweaking with the amount of times I bit shit, lol. But fr, the majority of what you listed is dead on. Like, Gordon's always seen as silent but deadly, but in all these SFMs (particularly ones like these, no matter how underrated) the creators do so much to show off emotion in a silent protagonist. I can only imagine that when Alyx was ganked by the Hunter, he would have been screaming.

First of all, good job with capturing Gordon Freeman going from a man who started off as a simple Theoretical Physicist late to work but giving a simple hello to co-workers, to then showing how deeply this has not only troubled him but just how hard it’s gotten for him to show mercy sometimes. The kissing part did come out of nowhere but it’s not exactly something I’d consider bad. Not to mention, you made Alyx very enjoyable to watch on Gordon’s journey too. The whole thing feels rich, enjoyable, cool and tragic all at once while still making it believable that this is what we would see happen to Gordon throughout the way.

"Look what you did... I can't BELIEVE what you did!" This video is a tremendous feat. I've watched it a few times already, since I discovered it last night. While I know that I'm super biased in favor of anything Half-Life-related, this is genuinely, shockingly good. I may ramble a bit: 1. Gordon's suit and helmet are awesome. 2. I love how you believably portrayed TREMBLING in fear. Seriously, extra credit for that: I'm talking about inside the citadel core chamber- that really looks like some dude, navigating a burning building. You really sold the facial expressions of fear, concern, desire, apprehension, despair, worry, relief, and fury. All the micro-expressions and body language are on point. The trembling, however, is most impressive to me; I can't imagine how many tries it took, to get those erratic movements to look just right. 3. You managed to convincingly suggest the existing romantic relationship between Gordon and Alyx without it feeling forced and pornographic, but rather highly passionate and sensible. The kiss was absolutely necessary, in my opinion, and very well-executed. I'm glad and thankful that you are brave and talented enough to bring to life what should be obvious to players. The kiss and the connection that they share in that scene also work as a great premeditated respite, to contrast the horrors they will face in the very next scene, where Gordon shields her, as she is the sword. Perfect scene pairing AND placement. 4. Xen looks BEAUTIFUL, and teeming with life. 5. I like the well-placed surprises, such as the security guard being killed, the PTSD triggered by Alyx's embrace, the show of Gordon's humanity (admiring the Xen flora) and stark shift to brandishing his crowbar, the false surrender from the outgunned Civil Protection, and the kiss. You've earned an instant subscription from me, and I can't wait for more videos. Please, make more videos!

This is why Gordon Freeman is as iconic as he is. This spells it out. Doomguy/Slayer was a marine. Built to break shit and take none. Duke Nukem was a collection of action hero tropes from the 80s and 90s. He was built up as a super army jock turned eternal champion of babes. Solid Snake is a clome of the perfect soldier, meant to be the best of the best with all the training and dedication involved. Ypu have these 3 and countless other examples of men and women, iconic characters who are fleshed out as warriors from tje word go. Military background, cultural indocrination, the tidbits and mishmash of pickinf and choosing, tellings of a battle hardened character before we pick it up. Gordon Freeman, while not being the only one, might have been the first to be a working joe who was just in the worst of situations and had to deal. Nobody asked him to become a hero, nor was he meeting a lot of the requirements. He was there. And at the end of it, he was left.
