First I have to say I recently found you and love your videos! With my work I have had mostly 14 hour work days since November of last year. I love getting off work and finding a recently uploaded video because they lift my spirit! I have noticed what little I have been able to read lately is heavy in the Fantasy and Middle Grade genres. I have really been craving a good fast paced thriller and then you posted this video! Yesterday my daughter wanted to go to our local bookstore and see what Manga they had and as I perused the markdown books I found The Lost Man for $6.97! Also yesterday was my first day of vacation and I hope to read The Lost Man at the pool this next week and add to the atmosphere by feeling the physical heat! I also got The Family Upstairs from my local library. The rest are on my TBR and library hold list. Thank you for the recommendations!

Oh gosh I watched Shutter Island when I was 12 years old (it had just come out - I am young). My older cousin rented it from blockbuster and it gave me nightmares. Every time it is mentioned I cringe up, but honestly still appreciate it because even scared dead I needed to finish it.

I found your channel in 2019 & the first video I watched was a review of The Lost Man. Your excitement caused me to immediately order it and I devoured it as soon as it arrived. ...my brain is now rocking out to Eye of the Tiger... thank you Lianne for the start of my Saturday morning Brain Playlist! 🤣😂🤣🤣 I read Jane Harper because of you! And totally agree that the Aussie atmosphere is so different from American or British crime mysteries. I've experienced a visceral feeling of the place described in both The Lost Man, and The Survivors. I am hoping to have the same experience when I finally pick up The Dry.

Oof, Shutter Island. There are many books and movies that I have been trying to look at differently recently, which has been harrrd. There are a couple of movies I loved as a kid that now it's like, ahhh people with DID, Delusional Disorder, personality disorders in general, and other mental illnesses that aren't more accepted are depicted as violent, murderous, always 12/10 on their symptoms, and just. I've been thinking about it a lot because I recently was diagnosed with BPD and have been trying to do more education on personality disorders and how they show up in media. And it's like, I'm not trying to say it's a bad story to tell, those twists feel intense!, but it's hard when that's the only representation we get with these kind of disorders. So, as I know mental health is really important to you, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the mental health depictions in Shutter Island. I only ever watched the movie, and if I understand correctly, it was also set in the 50s? BUT yes, I would love to know how you felt about that part of the book! (or really, mental health in thrillers in general) However, if that's too intense (especially for the comment section) I completely understand.
