Tip for ao1: embed quotes and put some context for the point. It'll increase the quality of your point/reference, and you'll start to talk conceptually. Just a tip I picked up from my English teacher Example: Jekyll is portrayed as narcissistic to show how Victorians had an irrational fear of science. This is shown by Lanyon, who describes Hyde's experiments as "scientific heresies."

Just want to say thanks for the effort and passion you put into these videos. Being aussie, I dont have GCSE's but I need English Lit to get into the PGDE course that I want. As a student who is self-studying, your videos are so so important to me! This weekend will be spent binge-watching your content and then practising! Thank you :)

@dizvo3008 2 жыл бұрын
@@legendarystudier517 yea although aqa is going to probably see a lot of priest stories, the wording is completely different from each persons version because he didn't show the word for word copy, only the plot of the story. Therefore everyone's work is unique "art" so they will not get disqualified. In fact I am so happy I found his videos because the whole PRTEZEL paragraphs are great. They are designed for the mark scheme, where as our stupid schools teach us "what, how, why" structures which are year 3 grade worthy.

@joshquinn4964
@joshquinn4964 2 жыл бұрын
It does but - similarly to linguistic techniques in the writing section of English language - overdoing it makes it lose its effect. Little tidbits of context here and there are better than a while paragraph on the importance of the dramatic irony and a full description of the Titanic in AIC for example.

Would you get more marks for using quotes that not everyone would think to use?
@joshquinn4964
@joshquinn4964 2 жыл бұрын
I think it would improve how the examiner reads your work. It shows them you have a deeper understanding of the text- the same way exploring abstract themes does. There aren't any marks for it but it would improve the sophistication of your writing and subconsciously make the examiner more inclined yo award you marks.

Would there be any marks for separating the effect on a modern reader vs the reader at the time?
@joshquinn4964
@joshquinn4964 2 жыл бұрын
That probably wouldn't add marks per say but it improves the quality of your writing. Sounding sophisticated is important - which is why your introduction should sound as fancy as possible etc. It would improve how the examiners look at your writing and - subconsciously- how they mark it. There's no marks specifically for it but I'd do it anyway because it improves the quality of your writing.
