The Lithgow LA102 is a super accurate rifle and this 243 is no different. I managed 1/2" 5-shot groups @ 100 yards with OSA 100gr Gameking factory ammo!!

i know this is a old vid, but i just got my LA102 in 243 steeped up from a 22lr, it was the first time i have put a scope on a rifle as some one set my .22 up for me, i took it to the range to sight in and was on paper at 50m first shot, a little adjustment and i was on target in about 6 shots making groups , im still supper armature ( only been shooing for about 12 months on and off) but i cant be happier with myself and this amazing piece of equipment. i swear this riffle makes me look better than i actually am, Aussie proud, nice work lithgow.

For the reloaders, Im printing one hole at 100m using 87g Berger vld hunters, 39.5gr 2209, fed magnum primers, seat to mag length (3060fps). Same result with 77g lapua HP's - 44gr 2209, fed magnum primers (3255fps) both single digit ES & SD. Love the Lithgow, will definitely buy another one down the track

G'day Ozzie, I've been hanging for this review, great job mate! I'm a huge fan of my lithgow HMR and loving these centrefires too. The performance of these rifles is great, the fact they're Australian made is sensational! Good on ya for getting behind them and proving just how good they are.

Hey Ozzie, Guys. Heads up, there's another 10 round Tika/Lithgow Crossover Magazine option out there. There seems to be more than a few guys annoyed by the factory three round magazine and feeding problems experienced with the Lucky 13 ten round mags. I've just picked-up a metal "Grizzly Brand" 243 or 308, 10 round, slim single stack magazine, for $185 from Safari Firearms NSW. It locks in, super snug into my 243 Lithgow Crossover with Polymer Stock. I've fed ten mixed rounds of 100gn Partitions and 105gn A-max through it several times, with no issues. I know it's no torture test and YMMV.

Legacy Sports is distributing the Lithgows in the US and the list prices are up there with the Sakos, I haven't seen them on the shelves or even being advertised here.. I think Lithgow will have a hard time establishing themselves here when competing with the Sakos, Tikkas, CZ, Browning, and Winchester not to mention Savage, Ruger, Kimber, Howa and even some of the Remingtons. I've got a couple of Savage Axis with heavy barrels and accutriggers ( .223 & .243) with upgraded factory stocks that will shoot at least as well as the Lithgows. They certainly have an enthusiastic user in you! Best regards from a fellow inmate.

If they were proceed in the 600-1000 range I would absolutely buy one over a Savage or equivalent. They would go along perfectly with my Tikkas. If they are more than that then I can't see them selling too many

Sure the Rem 700 might be cheaper in some models but the finish and quality of the Lithgows makes the Rem, Savages and Brownings etc in the same price bracket look like junk. Own two Rems that both cost around the same as a Lithgow and their finish is crap. Like comparing a Range Rover to a Jeep.

I am interested in purchasing a .308 LA102 for F Class shooting, I was told that the Tikka rifles were suitable for a starting point. There all ready is a Super Varmint .223 in the safe thanks to you :) . Was simply wondering whether it also is a suitable option for the same purpose as the price difference is ~$500 and your reviews show the quality is on par(I am hand loading for it). If it's true that means half the safe will be full of rifles you have showcased, including the LA101. Keep up the great work, nothing here is short of quality in both the rifle and presenter. Hope to meet you one day, Thank you

Thank you Travis, I greatly appreciate supportive comments like yours. I can't see you going wrong with an LA102 308 for F-Class as with hand loads the rifle is going to be a sub 1/2 MOA shooter, so what more could you ask for out of a $1400 rifle? I've turned a lot of heads with my Lithgows where friends have been shooting with me and can't believe the accuracy achieved. They are great rifles and I'm proud as punch to see that "Australian Made" tag on them when you buy one brand new :)

Will you be doing one soon Please. Also i would like to wait for the Lithgow 6.5 to come out ( its just a matter of time haha ) any thoughts appreciated as i have never shot a 223 or 6.5. Is their much of a difference between the 243 and 308 ?
@BrettsAustralia
@BrettsAustralia 7 жыл бұрын
Gday mate :) The .243 Win is basically a necked down .308 Win so both having similar powder capacities, because of this the 243. Win is a overbore cartridge and if u use maximum powder hand loads regularly you will have a considerable lower barrel life opposed to a .308 Win even if the .308 Win is using full powder loads also. The .308 Win can push a projectile coming close to double the maximum weight of the .243 Win but at a much slower velocity (very roughly 500 fps max load depending on powder type/bullet design). Obviously the velocity and the bullet diameter/weight (where a projectile's BC usually comes into play) are the most significantly major practical differences and as almost always it comes down to the task u r choosing to perform with either cartridge.

@@stanleymorgan-taylor951 you should check out Chuck Hawks' Rifle Recoil Table - then watch videos of bolt guns being shot in .223, .243 and .308 caliber. I find the .243 about the maximum amount of recoil that I like to shoot regularly at a range but as you can see from this video it's not near as pleasant to shoot as a .223 .........the rifle he's shooting here is fairly heavy also but still kicks a lot imho to be a pleasure to shoot........
@flyingtigers7856
@flyingtigers7856 4 жыл бұрын
@@ashman0071 308 has only mild recoil imho. .243 is not bad at all. .223 has very little. .243 is or was often recommended for youths as the recoil is mild. Each to their own though. Shoot whatever you enjoy using.

@BrettsAustralia
@BrettsAustralia 7 жыл бұрын
G'day mate :) Just my 2 bobs worth on the matter. In my opinion the .243 Win is one of the very flexible common mass produced factory long range suited cartridges/rifles for small to medium Australian game without being over gunned. I just love with the correct hand loads it can melt 55Gr projectiles out of the end of its barrel at 4050 fps (24" Barrel) and push very high BC 105Gr-107Gr at just under 3000 fps (however the vast majority of factory rifles wont have a fast enough twist rate to stabilise these at long range+ distances :( ) good luck with barrel life and accuracy with these maximum loads though..lol ! Cheers.
@ozziereviews
@ozziereviews 7 жыл бұрын
It's too much for foxes, the rounds from a 243 will over penetrate a fox and even goats will fall with ease from the 243. If your main use is foxes, the 223 would be my choice as it's quieter, it's cheaper to run and you'll get on a lot more properties with one over a 243. If you're started to get into pigs, you already have a 270WSM that will take any pig here in Australia. I agree with Bretts comment about being an all rounder but you already have the 270WSM, so I'd be leaning towards a 223 with a 1"9 or 1"8 twist so you can stabilise projectiles up to 75gr which will do the job on goats and most pigs with the correct shot placement...

Never heard of the Lithgow here in the States but that's a gorgeous rifle and no wonder you are big on them. I have a Savage 10 in 308- 24 inch bull/target barrel. I just bought a used 243 barrel in standard profile - 22 inches to try on the rifle for hunting. I notice your rifle (and probably majority out there) is also 22 inches so I guess that is considered a standard length. I hunt in heavy brush and am considering cutting the 243 barrel down to 18 inches to lighten it up and make it a little better handling. Have you ever done anything like that to any of your rifles and would that be something I'd regret (accuracy etc). Thanks.

No I haven't cut the barrel down on any of my rifles. You'd lose some velocity and the blast would be a lot louder with the shorter barrel but that's about it...
