My partner has a lot of tools, so when he needed a circular saw, I ordered this one for him as a Christmas gift. kzbin.infoUgkxYDKeIjKLOfcwTgdin7TtCutsz4MbIc43 He is incredibly happy with the purchase. He stated that he likes that it is powerful, but still easy to use and cuts very well. He mentioned that it is important to know the right tools for the job at hand, and this compact saw has been exactly what he needed for a variety of projects at his rental properties and renovations. He also appreciates the battery packs, as stated, he owns a lot of DEWALT tools, so he is able to always keep batteries charged as needed.

I'm pretty sure it's not the voltage across the main terminals that the charger is looking at when it determines whether the battery is too deeply discharged or faulty. Inside the pack, they have banks of 5 cells (more banks for more Ah) and there's a thin sensing wire between the negative and the first cells and the BM circuit board. So I expect it's looking for the voltage of the first cells, not the total. Edit: Also 34:32 It's not fully charged at 18V. That's just the nominal voltage. Voltage doesn't change a lot except at the extreme ends of the full charged/fully discharged range for lithium batteries.

You can always use a relay through the 30/87a terminals its buzzing is fun and is alot faster more dangerous and probably still won't work Your better off swapping the cells around if you can get the battery open. Flashing the faulty cell directly has limited short term success, but through all the cells less success, buy new if you don't want to spend time in your workshop with hana :-)

Hey Andy, I checked the website and that's for NiCD batteries, not Lithium batteries. Also, Makita "18V" batteries are 5x 18650 cells, 3.6v nominal each cell, actual fully charged voltage is 21V. The reason the charger isn't charging it is because the computer in the battery flagged the battery as defective. The cells themselves could be okay, but the battery management circuit will ID the battery as bad to the charger.

In the In the beginning you were talking about Someone writing in And explaining The crystal whiskers that develop inside the cells I believe they were referring to Nickel cadmium And that's how they do those , And yeah The process there talking about Will work with those But that's not lithium ion Lithium ion are way different And quite dangerous That's why the bms had to be installed in the lithium batteries . If any lithium cell drops to or below 2 volts that bms opens the negative line to stop any charging , its a safety thing and if you open the battery or put test leads on the positive thermal and negative on one of the smaller cells you can actually see the voltage of each cell and 9 times out of 10 one or more cells have dropped below minimum so if you want to Magically "fix" the battery then maby you can balance charge each cell so all 5 in that 18v battery are at the same level then put it on its charger and it should charge up fine ,that is unless the bms is bad as sometimes it needs replacement but for the safety of your readers please read up on the types of batteries before giving out wrong information.

If it came up to 18 volts with flicking the wire on and off why didn't you then put the battery in the tool it comes from and try it? an 18 volt reading indicates that it is fully charged.
@kevinfetner79835 жыл бұрын
The PCB inside the battery will often 'brick' the battery....like if the battery was hot and put in the charger for three tries or more. Nothing to be done then except buy a new PCB and replace your old. When the old PCB 'bricks' the battery, it is forever with that original PCB.

@ServiceComputers6 жыл бұрын
Fully charged, those batteries are 21v, consisting of strings of 5 18650 cells at 4.2v (nominal 3.6v x 5 is the 18v quoted). Discharging below 3v per cell is harmful. That multi-pin connector lets the charger test & charge the cells individually. Once cell in a string fails, it drops below 3v on a discharge cycle. They can sometimes be recovered individually, but their life is shortened. However, if you procure a set of 18650s, you can crack open the case & put fresh cells inside for dramatically cheaper than buying a battery pack at retail. BONUS: putting cells you choose in, may yield a battery with higher than stock capacity. (Like battery #3 having a capacity of 3Ah for example.)
@ServiceComputers6 жыл бұрын
Battery number 2 is knackered & likely has a high internal resistance that will remain even if you recover it, that's why it's not sparking much& the voltage falls off quickly.

standard 18650, good ones aren't cheap. The batteries are expensive most of the time because your paying for the name, i.e dewalt uses LG branded 18650, Kolbalt (lowes brand) uses samsung. I think Makita is using Sony branded batteries. Im curious to see what you find when you tear one down. By the way, the battery packs are super easy to rebuild and upgrade. for example the 18v packs use 5 18650 batts wired in series. the kicker about it however is the 1.5 amp hour batts are using 1500Mah batteries. You can find 3000Mah 18650 li-ions and build your own high cap packs by replacing the OEM cells with higher capacity cells.

ok, 5 years ago but it showed up in my feed the most painful battery test I have ever seen. I can't access the document but for anyone watching good thing it did not explode. The minute I saw how fast the battery was losing voltage I knew there was a dead cell. THere is a Battery Management System (BMS) in the battery pack that tells the charger the voltage of each line of cells. So one of two things, either an individual cell was dead or the BMS was dead.
