I'm searching through YT videos on li-po vs. li-ion batteries. I wish more of them were as well presented and helpful as this one. I had the impression from somewhere, that lipo batteries used lithium-ion chemistry, but were made using different materials/construction methods to keep them light weight. Is this true or not? For 14 years, I've used lipo batteries in RC airplanes, helicopters and fast 4wd model trucks/race cars. I use them carefully, but did have a couple high impact airplane crashes that bent the lipos almost in half. In all my years using them, I've never seen a puff of smoke, not a single spark from any of my lipos, nor have any of my hobby friends ever said a word about situations resulting in fire, sparks, nothing. The only problem I remember with lithium power was someone said their laptop computer battery melted and made a burning smell.

Hey! I have a Li-ion battery in my laptop which I’ve been using for 7 years and instead of getting a new laptop I decided to get a new battery. Unfortunately they have false advertising and got a Li-po. Do you think I’ll be fine with a Li-pout battery?
@aylean36282 жыл бұрын
You’ll be fine as long as the battery voltage is the same.

How many years can lithium polymer batteries last?
@GrepowBatteryOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Hello there, the lifespan of lipo batteries is calculated by the number of cycles, and this value is related to the using environment and habits. Generally, it is 300~500 cycles. 😀

So what battery (Li-ion or LiPo) should I use for photography portable speedlite (mod with external cable & battery)? Likes high current & less weights because one has to carry for 4 to 8 hrs of shooting.

Is lithium polymer battery same as super capacitor?

Are the Discharge rates for both same?
@GrepowBatteryOfficial3 жыл бұрын
It depends, the rate of "LiPo battery" could be 40C (continue) and 120C in pulse discharge, but the maximum rate of cylindrical li-ion battery like 18650, 21700 is around 10C (continue). Just like the e-cig, both batteries can be used, but the high rate (high discharge current) is reflected in the later stage. In order to maintain constant power, a higher current is required to maintain a high power when the voltage continues to drop during use. The high-rate lipo battery has an absolute advantage.

Li Ion has about 2000 cycles. Why put LiPo, a high descharge accu where is not needed? For what, 1mm thinner phone?! LiPos have 300-500 cycles which is fine for a radio controlled airplane where you need very high charge and mostly descharge rates like emptying the accu in 5 minutes in flight, such high currents that maybe only LiPo can handle. But for a phone with a non removable battery, 400 cycles is a joke. Recent smarthphones hold charge for 1-2 days. So you buy a 500 euro phone with a non removable battery (another wonderfully stupid trend) with a lipo battery to get what, 400 cycles, one year before you have to trash it and of course.. buy another?! I had 3 phones since 2004 that's in 18 years! My last one has 7 years this year, and I would go for another 7 with it if the battery could be changed. The mostly western mentality of buying and buying and changing what still works is destroying the planet with us on it an everything that lives. We had NiCads and NiMh that suported thousands of cycles, I have NiCads accus 18 years old, I still use them today. But noo..they have memory, they are bulky and heavy and we actually have to wait to charge them, they are not instant charged like LiPos. And in all that rush of ours, our lives go in an instant too. Technology from well made, long lasting and durable tends to go to F1 engines philosophy: ''I have the coolest thing but it lasts one week''. Untill we will all sit on waste mountains...Regarding safety..I don't know where LiPo being more safe is coming from because I fly RC planes and been dealing with LiPo for two decades and I can tell you: if you drop it gard enough so that oxygen gets to it it will burst into flames, not like a candle but more like a torch that gows and gows! If the charger doesn't stop the charging process at 4,2v/cell it can burst into flames. If it's deeply discharged it can burst into flames etc. See on youtube ''LiPo explosion''. From what I've read all these years, LiPO battery is by far the most dangerous comercial battery. Maybe they try to sweeten it out now that they use them on phones... Good video by the way.

After so many misleading videos finally a simple and direct explanation of their differences. However, I want to know if I can buy a Li-ion power-bank over a more expensive LiPo power-bank? Because Mobility ( to carry it around) is not much important to me. Li-ion are generally bulkier in size than the LiPo ones. So should I go for a Li-ion power-bank then?
@GrepowBatteryOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chirantan, thank you for your kind reply! Yes, you can choose it. Most of the power banks in the market nowadays are lithium-ion batteries and the production technology has matured. As long as you choose the branded ones, then you can not worry about the quality :)

@wmlaveck3 ай бұрын
The ploymer battery will only last about a year. Whereas the Lithium-ion batter will last over two years. If manufacturers had to state the expected lifespan of their batteries, they would use only lithium-ion. Also, when ploymers are used in RC airplanes, manufacturers recommend changing in a metal box for safety.

@GrepowBatteryOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bilal. If you are using a normal lithium-ion battery before, the output performance will not be affected, is the same as the LiPo battery. The difference in battery performance mainly depends on what manufacturer it is from and the capacity.

To make this short.... For smartphone LI-ION is better. It will last 4-6 times longer, is cheaper to replace and you can discharge it lower with only a bit of degradation. LI-PO 300-500 cycles LI-ION ~2000 cycles, more than 3000 if you take care of it.

Not necessarily true, if you want to use your phone in an emergency when you are in temperatures below zero C, Li-Pol is much better. LI-POL: temperature range between -20°C and 60°C LI-ION: temperature range between 0°C to 35°C

Li-Ions can explode. Li-Ion safety is low. If you want to risk, take it. I will always use Li-Po. Safety first. If i need i can change the battery later. Cycle is not that important. I use Li-Po batteries for 2-3 years. After that i can change my battery for a little cost.
