You'll be fine with a bucket of sand, with more than enough to bury the piece you're burning.
@Vicmp4010 жыл бұрын
Yandy ya but not a hand full because the lithium is so hot that is would melt the silica (sand) into glass, then it would flow off of the wooden rail and burn the floor. but then again a bucket of sand... that will do the job.

You would never expect a common household object to be so dangerous.
@ninezeroo427910 жыл бұрын
same thought...
@MrLittlelawyer10 жыл бұрын
There are many many household materials capable of far more then this, just takes a little work and chemistry. With how frightened society is of everything like this you would think we would walk around our houses like they are nuclear plants. :P
@real0mar10 жыл бұрын
Bleach+vinegar
@jessicawood68810 жыл бұрын
or you could just put bleach in the toilet.. when someone goes to the bathroom the bleach reacts with ammonia in the urine to make a toxic gas
@MrLittlelawyer10 жыл бұрын
Jessica Wood LOL, if that produced enough to kill quickly (which it wouldn't) that would be the ultimate assassination technique XD. Also you can just stick table salt in water, run a current through it, and it produces toxic gas. Certain drain openers or car battery acid, and certain salts for meat are the basic ingredients to very high explosives as well, not to mention something as simple as cotton or glycerin from soap. Other diet salts can be used to make explosives, and aluminum is a primary ingredient in rocket fuels and many explosives and thermite, and everyone has that. So yeah, its pretty impressive what chemistry can do. Naturally, many of the processes required to do what I said are not only are unstable but produce many toxic gases, so it would be very dangerous to attempt (and illegal in some places), but the fact is its there and its all common household items.

By far your best video. It is hilarious because of your emotional reaction. Do more experiments that border on the edge of science and psycho. Create a pattern of unpredictability that will stir up more responses like this one. "Perfect pill of egg" could be a t-shirt. I would buy it. Keep em coming Hacker. You do good work. @RandomExperiments10 жыл бұрын
Lithium as a metal is not used in fireworks, because it's not safe. As a salt f.e. lithium chloride it's way too hygroscopic. You can watch it turning wet on air in about a few minutes. Almost looks like as if it melts.

@brookeb222710 жыл бұрын
Lithium is one of the most reactive elements known to man.... Ive seen this video a lot... But I don't suggest doing that one again. You can't just go buy pure lithium alone for a reason. I noticed another comment with other metals that do the same thing. I don't suggest that either, but unless you have a job in science you couldn't buy it anyhow... but if you do, do it again, keep the lithium you're not currently using in a bowl of kerosene. It won't turn black while you're playing with a piece of it.

4. Standard fire extinguisher can only make metal fires worse! They all contain compounds (water, carbon dioxide, sodium bicarbonate, etc. depending on the type) that will react violently with heated metal, often producing toxic gases such as carbon monoxide. So never ever use them, you need specially designed extinguisher for metal fires. You were really lucky , especially with the burning lithium.

Put the Lithium metal in water, and light the fumes produced.
@taztrooper343810 жыл бұрын
Reminded me of high school chemistry 40 years ago when we did this with Na (Sodium) and K (Potassium) metals. The metals got so hot as they reacted with the water that they melted and formed small spheres that scooted around the surface of the water as they oxidized. And it didn't take long for the K to get so hot it ignited the hydrogen gas that was being emitted. Nice explosion!

To get a big boom you need to move further down on the periodic table. Lithium isn't quite reactive enough, try sodium, potassium, rubidium or caesium. The further down you go the bigger the boom until you hit the radioactive stuff. We did learn that Lithium is a great fire starter tho! :D

No. Rubidium is a highly explosive alkaline metal. It will explode if it is dropped in water. I did this with Natrium, and it caught fire. My chemics teacher said that if you would drop a small amount of Rubidium in a bathtub, in would explode
