Your video helped me out a lot. I wanted a litter robot for some time but could never justify the $350 price. I found a broken one on craigslist for $40. With the help of you tube I cleaned the motor, re-lubed everything and now its working great.!!!

I re lubed mine with a few dabs of white lithium grease and and KN Air Filter oil. Haha. Runs like new. Quiet no issues. Just be careful of those gears they’ll slide out. Remember the orientation ones tricky to get back in. If you go this far clean the metal safety in the wire box. The Hall effect sensor. Check the connections on the control board. As well as the cat sensor. I found some grime or corrosion in various places. Have a damp paper towel and a small brush at the ready, wire brush for metal. The metal safety that connects to a long metal wire for jams had some corrosion. Their are two wires going to both metal plates. Get rid of the rust if you have any where the two pieces of metal meet. That will cause issues as well. Ultimately I think a lot of people could probably resolve a lot of issues with out new parts. It’s worth the shot. Thumbs up z71usa for the post it inspired me. I have zero issues. And your absolutely right we rely on these things. I’ll probably re lube and deep clean once a year or as needed. *Edit* wound up replacing it. But after replacing the harness, circuit board and power supply I found the power switch was faulty. Point is it’s cheap to fix. Yeah and I saved the old motor. You can refurb it or preform some maintenance easy. Just remember not to over load it with oil.

Have already opened my gearbox and cleaned out the entire mechanism before I came across your video. I'm currently trying to find the right type of grease that works with plastic sprockets . What type of grease did you use to re-lubricate?

Agreed! Any oil, will work petroleum distillates. If it’s heavy like white lithium grease don’t use too much. I used a mixture of KN Air Filter oil which is like mineral oil or WD40 and white lithium grease. Like a weathervane white lithium grease is good. But it’ll get really heavy with use. Use a few small dabs on the gears. Don’t use to much it’ll quiet it down and allow it to run smooth but over loading it will slow it down in time. I then sprayed it good with the KN Air Filter oil. Quiet as hell. Smooth operation. But ultimately your looking for a gear oil like what is used in water pumps or compressors or hobby’s etc. Marvels Mystery Magic Oil. 1,000,000 uses lol that would work well as well.

Any tips on how to clean out the inside of the gearbox? Thanks!

You forgot to tell us the most important thing: How did you split the gear case in half?

Bought a replacement motor, both failed at exactly the same place: the middle plastic gear being eaten away by the metal gear. If all gears would be metal the gearbox would not fail.

The video seems to be great but the fact that it is a vertical video makes it completely unwatchable on a computer. As a tip I suggest rotating your phone so that the video is taken the right way. If you have a TV and your cable company showed everything like this would you watch it?
