So smooth!! I’m balancing my con rods, bearings, pins and pistons to aprox .85 of a gram Bob weight, then getting the crank balanced. I hope it will be really smooth running as well. Question: what do you use to seal the jugs to the case? Thanks!

I like your setup: stock cam and carb + 1776cc How much HP and Torque does this engine gets?

Thank you, we haven't tested this set up for HP or TQ yet, the engine is basically stock with the exception of the 90.5 cylinders, 009 distributor and aftermarket muffler. A stock engine puts out about 60hp or so, this one may be putting out 10-15 more HP. When using a stock 34pict or single carburetor, we won't put anything other than a stock camshaft and won't go bigger than the 1776cc otherwise we'd need to jet the carburetor excessively rich in order to get rid of the flat spot and this leads to heavy idle, vibration and washed out rings. The dyno that the engine is on in the video still has the old mechanical gauges and not very accurate, once we upgrade to data acquisition, we will post results.

@@powerhausvw 20 years ago I was partners in a VW/Porsche shop in Ft. Myers Florida. We built plenty of powerful stroker typ 1 engines/cars. Lots of Berg and Scat parts. A high reving dual 40 Webber engine that I built in my living room in '81 was what started it all for me. You're building some of the most well thought out engines I've seen in quite a while Hats off!

I NEED help. I purchased a stock 1600 dual port in a '73 stock standard bug. It has some kind of after market "progressive" carb, intake, and air filter. It also has an Engle 110 with stock exhaust and .009. I want to convert the engine back to stock carb, air filter box, distributor, and intake with stock exhaust. Will the single 34 pict run OK with this set up? The heads are stock but new, crank is counterweighted and new, rockers are stock ratio. Please advise. Thank you. Think of taking a perfectly stock good running '73 1600 Dual port and just putting in an Engle 110 Cam and changing nothing else. Would that work?

Hi Ben, the stock single carburetor was already a bad design with poor air speed as its split through intake for the different cylinders so a 110 cam will only make matters worse, a 1776 engine with everything else bone stock including heads is about as big as we'd go with the stock carburetor and even then, it needs to be jetted and modified.

@@powerhausvw Multiple Weber tunning is something I was doing in the '70s (911s) so going to twin carbs on a flat four is not a challenge for me. I was just hoping the very well-designed 34 PICT 3 could handle the 110 cam. Apparently, your experience says "no". I am going to fiddle with it and confirm as I want a completely stock (well-engineered and running engine in all climates) intake system. That may require splitting the cases and going back to a stock or near-stock cam.

We’ve done a few efi builds not so much the last couple of years, to take full advantage of a complete modern type efi system it becomes very time consuming and expensive, I think there’s a few businesses around that offer a decent kit, but it’s tough to find mechanics now days that know how or even willing to work on these old cars, add efi and most shops will turn you away
