Billy - you actually did a much better job of figuring out this song than a lot of country music people. There were radio stations that wouldn't play it when it came out because they thought it was celebrating a lesbian relationship. Here are the basics: girl has man, girl loses man to new girl, girl misses man and is willing to be like new girl to get man back. It is a sad love song.

Your comment about it being toxic: I always took this song as an interesting twist on the girl vs girl thing. Like she's not saying "choose me that girl sucks" and tearing down another woman she's saying "I totally recognise all the awesome things about that woman you are with". We were both wanting something but weren't communicating. We also had his ailing mom living with us for 10 years. Yes he has siblings but they have their own lives. God has blessed us so many times and it is only with his help that we have been able to heal and move forward. A lot of people nowdays might just throw in the towel when their relationship gets hard. That's easy. The vows I took on my wedding day I meant wholeheartedly. Until death do we part. Now for anyone who is reading this comment. By no means, am I saying for you to stay if the relationship is abusive in any form.

You are 100% correct sir. The narrator of the song is still in love with her ex-boyfriend and she is envious of his new girlfriend. She wants to be like the new girlfriend because if she has those same traits and beauty then he might want her back. What really annoyed me was that when this song first came out, there were those that protested against the song because they thought it promoted homosexuality (which it DIDN'T) so the radio stations pulled it from their playlist. Most of us, however, understood the song because we listened to the BLOODY LYRICS. So we kept insisting that they listen to the song and put it back on the radio. They did eventually. It's a great song and Little Big Town are such gifted songwriters! Thank God you got it. Thanks for the reaction Billy!
