Little Brown Bear is quickly becoming one of my least favorite preschool shows, for the following reasons: 1. Little Brown Bear's brattiness, which rivals that of other infamous cartoon children such as Caillou, D.W. Read, and Angelica Pickles. He also seldom gets punished for his bad behavior, instead being rewarded with it later because of how permissive his parents are, not unlike Boris and Doris, David and Jane, and Drew and Charlotte (the latter albeit to a lesser extent). 2. None of the characters have proper names, instead all going by (Adjective) (Color) Bear, which isn't creative at all. If it were up to me, I'd call Little Brown Bear Gavin, Little Gray Bear Emma, and Little Beige Bear Samuel. I've even seen one episode where Little Red Bear has a doll named Nanette. How come the doll gets a proper name, but the living, breathing characters don't? 3. The episodes' runtimes are too short, lasting for three minutes each. As a result, it doesn't give the stories enough time to evolve and become better-written. And yes, I know that other leading preschool shows have short runtimes. The OG Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends series had episodes that lasted five minutes, partially because they were direct adaptations of stories from the Railway Series books, and those stories were chapters of story arcs, hence why after one episode ended, the story would continue with the next. As the series progressed, the episodes had longer runtimes, going from five minutes to seven, then from seven minutes to nine. This was because the series started making its own original stories after the death of the Rev. W. Awdry. This helped to have the plot of each episode resolved in good time, and I definitely think longer runtimes could benefit Little Brown Bear's stories so that the plots don't feel rushed.

Wish they had a little kid's cartoon where the kid had emotional dysregulation and the adults were patient without being doormats, and actually taught them to step away from the situation so they can calm down and not hurt people. That would actually be a good lesson. Sometimes it is impossible to teach a kid "dont be so mad" because it can be hard for some people to control how mad they get, but they can still control their behavior and reactions. Also, the kid should still face consequences if they hurt someone or make a mess or something.

All children are to some degree psychopathic. Without delving too deep into it, psychopathy focuses around a lack of empathy and therefore a willingness to do bad things due to a lack of understanding of right or wrong. All children start out like that until a parent or guardian teaches them otherwise. So technically, every little kid is a psychopath xD obviously a formal diagnosis is a bit more extreme, but all the basic stuff is there
@larrykoopa64dshacker642 ай бұрын
There isn't a correlation between psychopathy and willingness to do bad things. A willingness to do bad things can be done by people who have empathy as well as don't, and it's often driven by selfishness or some other if I have to guess. Psychopathy also includes very tuned down emotions too, which Perfect Peter and Little Brown Bear do not have. A neurotypical can be just as selfish and do bad things, doesn't make them a psychopath. I know from experience because I'm autistic that neurotypicals are capable of just not using their empathy and being selfish or self-superior (trying to understand why ableist neurotypicals who hate autistic people would not be using their empathy or cognitive thinking about how the other might feel or some other) and even I've been selfish which lead to doing bad things, like wanting a calculator as a kid so I tried to steal one, it was stupid. As far as recent things go, I didn't mean to do a bad thing here, but I found bronze frogs and wanted to keep them because they're cute and I love them, keeping them for a bit was a selfish thing to do, I realized it was wrong when I researched and found I can only keep wild caught tadpoles, but after a while of fighting my inner selfishness, I did the right thing and let them free.
@capulet55802 ай бұрын
@@larrykoopa64dshacker64 I’m autistic too and I have a “friend” who’s formally diagnosed with psychopathy. By definition, a psychopath is a person who lacks the ability to feel remorse, empathy, etc, which DOES result in them doing more bad things, yes. This is because they can’t comprehend why the things they do are wrong, and without an objective understanding of what good and bad are, humans are naturally flawed and will move towards bad actions over good ones. The only thing that drives good behavior is understanding the consequences of bad behavior, but psychopaths will not care about this because sadly they don’t have the capacity *to* care. Yes, a psychopath can say “I won’t do this action because it’s illegal and I don’t want to be in prison”, but they cannot say “I won’t do this action because someone could get hurt”. That goes against the fundamental concept of what psychopathy is. I also believe you kinda missed my point. I wasn’t saying that only psychopaths do bad things, I was saying that psychopaths are more likely to steer towards bad behavior because they don’t have a firsthand understanding of morality. It doesn’t make them evil people, it just means they can do bad things without feeling bad about it. Your story about the frogs, if you were a psychopath, you never would’ve felt that tearing feeling inside yourself, where you felt like you had to let them go, despite how much you wanted to keep them. Doing a bad thing doesn’t make you a psychopath, and choosing to ignore empathy is different to being biologically incapable of experiencing it
@larrykoopa64dshacker642 ай бұрын
@@capulet5580 You're right about the second paragraph, that's what I was going for. A psychopath can think about something being illegal and not want to be in prison. They can think smart, or they can be not very smart and just do a bad thing because they're bored and don't want to be bored, so it gets driven by selfishness. Like, I wouldn't say it's the lack of empathy that drives it, it's the selfishness and desire to cure their boredom. But you're right that a psychopath wouldn't have the capacity to understand or care about what's right and wrong, though they can know logically based on observing others and can follow that for the sake of not getting in trouble or being put in prison if they choose to think logically, so it can be about thinking before acting. Considering many neurotypicals choose to ignore empathy all the time when it comes to autistic people tells me that empathy does not play a part in whether or not you do good or bad things or treat people nicely. These neurotypicals who do this kind of thing want to feel superior so they feel better about themselves, so they act on that and choose to hurt other people, which makes the bad action driven by selfishness. One can even be pushed into doing bad things by fear of another person making them do it against their better judgement. This is demonstrated with Larry Koopa in the Super Mario series. Larry is a 13-year-old boy pushed by fear of Bowser's yelling and empty threats who is woefully misunderstood as some evil person doing bad for the sake of bad that Mario has no choice but to beat up and save the day. But upon understanding Larry's character and behavior, you realize that Mario and friends are hate-able child abusers (when it comes to harming kids), similarly to Henry's parents. Whereas upon understanding Bowser's character, you realize he's just saying and doing stuff to keep up the biggest baddest brute image (out of insecurity) and Larry takes it literally. Bowser and Larry do bad things in the games but with as much as they do, neither of them are psychopaths. Bowser was spoiled as a child and Larry is pressed into it by fear because he's scared of yelling as any child would be as well as takes Bowser's threats literally even when they're meant to be supportive comments instead. I think to drive the point home, let me bring up that as a kid, I did a LOT of bad things. I hit teachers and adults, flipped tables and desks, ect. I was seen as a horrid bad kid and was given the same label Henry and Larry are given of horrid/evil/bad/defiant/ect. But it wasn't driven out of a lack of empathy or no understanding of right and wrong, rather, it was driven by the fact that I had a special interest in froggies for a long time, and adults around me always thought it was weird so they forced limits upon me, making me draw humans instead of frogs or telling me that I'm only allowed to do or say literally one frog related thing for the entire day, all while other kids got to talk about their stupid sports cards all they wanted. If I dared do one frog related thing, it was marked as trouble making behavior and they made a big fuss about it. So I was extremely irritable and down, and when adults saw I wasn't happy, they just straight up go up to me and insult me or say mean things to me, which because my autism gives me really powerful emotions, made me react in a meltdown where instead of leaving me alone, they keep egging me on and telling me how horrible I am, which escalated things to that point. I was driven into doing bad things by being hurt repeatedly, multiple offenders lead to toxic behavior on my part. Behavioral correction therapy for autistic people is considered a BAD thing and was a bad action on part of the adults working with me my whole childhood while they villainized me for reacting despite being just as toxic. My teachers and adults who worked with me were most definitely neurotypicals, so considering they have empathy, what made them so likely to treat me like garbage and enforce limits on me over being weird to them to the point they did it literally all the time until I was the one who just became quiet and matured around THEM to the point I've bottled up special interests for years and became outwardly bitter as of burying my heavy emotions? Selfishness. They were selfish and found that me expressing myself the way I do with my autism and all made them personally uncomfortable. Instead of bothering to try understanding it (KNOWING that I'm autistic by the way) they chose to act on their selfishness and try to force me to be normal like everyone else, despite again, knowing that I have autism, because they personally didn't like the way I behaved or had fixations BECAUSE of me having autism and all. Empathy is something that people can easily bury as deep as they want for the sake of doing a bad action or heck, can even bury as deep as they want with specific kinds of people had they chose to convince themselves there's evil bad guys to fight in the form of kids in specific groups or who have specific conditions or labels. I don't think psychopathy makes someone more willing to do bad as a neurotypical can do just as much bad things as a psychopath can and so can an autistic person like myself and so can anyone. Heck, what are the odds that slave owners in history were all psychopaths? Relatively low odds I'm sure, and it should go without saying that owning another person as a slave and whipping them is an absolutely awful thing to do (unless that person is into that kind of thing and it's a consensual thing between only adults with no kids involved). If empathy were really as empowering as most people seem to think, this history wouldn't exist. Henry's parents who are most definitely neurotypicals (while I think Henry is neurodivergent) wouldn't be so abusive to Henry if empathy were really as empowering as most people seem to think it is. Here's another thing that can drive neurotypicals to mistreating autistic people. Because autistic people don't have the same social cues as them, being around an autistic person without understanding them can trigger a subconscious fear in the minds of a neurotypical, as the way an autistic person can express themselves may give off vibes that something is wrong to the neurotypical, all while the words being communicated do not reflect on this, giving them the vibe of a dangerous person, resulting in them reacting with anger/hatred. I think, again, something to point out is that psychopaths are also characterized by really tuned down emotions as well as no empathy, which Little Brown Bear and Perfect Peter do not have tuned down emotions clearly. I hope I don't come off as irritating or aggressive, that's not my intent, rather, simply having a civil debate.

@@larrykoopa64dshacker64 Yeah, so my entire point was just that psychopaths are more likely to do bad things because there’s nothing holding them back from it outside of legal ramifications, and you can get away with many illegal things just by hiding them, sadly. Choosing to ignore empathy or not understanding it fully is a trait of some types of autism, sure, but it isn’t the same as psychopathy, which is the cold hard inability to feel it. While autistic people, primarily children, can act out pretty badly and not really care about how it hurts others, the possibility to feel bad afterwards is still there. The fact that you accept that you had issues with that in the past is proof that you have some level of empathy/remorse for it. Psychopaths wouldn’t have that. I think maybe you’re missing the point of what i’m saying. It feels a bit like you’re trying to argue that “Being a psychopath isn’t about not feeling empathy because other people in other situations might not always feel empathy either” but that’s not what i’m saying. Psychopathy is about being biologically unable to feel that remorse/empathy. Sociopaths will also struggle with it, but not to the same degree and that’s ofc got its own requirements for a diagnosis. In the case of the friend I mentioned at the start of my second comment, she isn’t a bad person, but she only knows to do the right thing because of logical inputs, almost like a machine. She thinks “this is bad” without understanding why it’s bad. Psychopaths can choose to do the right thing, but they’ll never get any kind of gratification for it, just as they feel no remorse from doing bad things. They’re like computers that do little but process data without letting emotions be part of it

@gaiathewildanimal26332 ай бұрын
I mean of course he’s gonna behave this way I wouldn’t except him to behave like a responsible grownup I mean hes just being a kid and doing what kids do however your probable right though the way the characters behave in the show probably isn’t good role modelling and they don’t say what the lesson of the show is and that can be a bad example for children.

I'm actually surprised she doesn't treat him similar to how my nephew is treated when he is hungry. His parents give him vegetables or fruit to snack on. In my nephew's case, this pacifies him because he is actually hungry as opposed to just wanting something sweet. If he were to act like l.b.b here, he would be told that he isn't actually hungry because he wasn't willing to eat the vegetable or fruit.
