HAWAII 1962---I played bass in a local band & backed Jimmy on a two week tour of military clubs. Twenty five years later I saw him in a California appearance (as a spectator) & was amazed that he remembered me (and everyone in the band). This is one reason he is so well accepted by everyone he comes in contact with. I will always cherish being associated with Little in stature but Huge in Heart, Jimmy Dickens. I've always loved the way Jimmy sings the ballads. His distinctive voice and style make his songs unforgettable. This song has been one of my favorites for many years. It's one of those songs I feel that just never stops being popular and when other artists have sung it, too, there's just a good feeling of warmth - tho the lyrics are a little sad. Thank for posting this treasure by this wonderfully talented artist. - Paula

Wow - Jimmy has always been wonderful doing the ballads and I'm so glad to hear that his many fans love his ballads, too. This one is a classic . His voice is so distinctive and he can sing any song and make it special. We met him years ago and we treasure that time. He was so gracious and so kind to us at The Opry, showing us around back stage. One of the greatest singers ever. Thank you for posting this. - Paula (formerly PaulinaRena)

I have always loved Jimmy's ballads the most. He has such a great voice for them and this one is tops - isn't the band wonderful? Wow - I agree that it just doesn't get any better than this. The words to this classic have so much meaning for me especially. Thank you for posting this treasure. - Paula

Each time I watch and listen to this video I do so admire the professional look Jimmy and all of the Opry musicians show. They are set apart from so many of the musicians I've seen in recent years who don't care how they look or what people think. For me, a great stage appearance is very important - not that it makes artists sound any differently but they are more enjoyable to watch. Thanks once more for this terrific video . - Paula

Never met the man, I do know he was highly regarded and respected by many! Wish I could have met him. I got it off a instrument broker that acquired it from Pee Wee's estate. Tone to the bone, Billy Knowles did the set up, one of the best Push Pull mechanics around! I do converse with Gary Carter and he told be Pee Wee's guitar that I have had a reputation for superb tone on the Opry. Looking at it right now :)

His band were Calvin Crawford on bass, Pee Wee Rogers on steel guitar, David Nye on lead guitar, Bill Kistner on drums. Tim Atwood who was an Opry staff member was on piano. Not sure about the fiddle player. Crawford, Nye , and Rogers all passed away before Jimmy. Kistner and Atwood are the only surviving players
