@@alex11361. While I don’t approve of the way this umpire reacted, it was the coach that started things by entering the plate umpire’s area. If I were the commissioner, or whoever was running this tournament, I’d want to see AND HEAR the video, the ENTIRE video, to give context to what we see. I’ve seen it three times, and again, as a retired umpire myself, I don’t approve of the umpire’s way of handling this, but he may have been acting in self-defense, as that coach was rushing toward him and did push the umpire. My guess is that there may have been issues earlier in the game, or even in a previous game. Perhaps the coach should have been ejected earlier, I cannot say. But leagues need to police themselves if they want to get umpires, especially GOOD umpires. I belonged to an association, and when there were problems with a league (I never saw anything close to this), we made it clear that if they wanted umpires, they needed to keep things under control. Most players, coaches and parents I interacted with (and I worked every level from Little League to men’s leagues) were not only respectful, but were appreciative to have umpires. I rarely had to eject anyone, and to be honest, if anything was coming from the stands, I really didn’t hear it, because my focus and concentration was on the game. It had to be, or I would have started making mistakes. But an umpire cannot control a game if he or she cannot control their emotions. Ironically, the more experienced coaches, like high school coaches, who really know the game, were the least likely to get into an argument.

Then the ump instantly starts wielding his mask like an elderly lady swinging her purse. Don't get me wrong. The coach should not allow himself to get into this position. Both should be reprimanded.
