I just found some more evidence pointing toward my rite of passage theory. So I was playing the game over for the fourth time and I realized that in the cutscene of The Lady in the very beginning of the game shows the lady bent over doing something. And then what does she do next? Almost the exact same dramatic turn that Six does after she eats The Lady. So my theory is maybe that cutscene in the beginning shows The Lady eating the lady before her and gaining her dark magic? (Also a small thing that possibly all the mannequins represent all the past ladys)

Although there are strange child like creatures that the Janitor watches in the nursery, and there are other child sized creatures in the cages, I don't believe they are human, nor do I think they are the primary source of food for the guests. My theory is that Six is actually an abused girl. The lady is her abusive mother and the Maw is her known world and since the lady is her mother, it explains why she runs things ( note she is probably just a girl). All of it is all in her head. It's because of the horrible things the mother did to her made her see the world as a much more scary place.

I have a theory that 6 is actually a mermaid. Obviously not a traditional mermaid because she is not part fish, but it may explain why the people are trying to eat you all the time. I am pretty sure that In Korean culture people believe that eating the meat of a mermaid will grant them powers, so because of this the guests notice you are a mermaid and try to eat you. There is a lot of Korean culture in this game which helps with the theory. Maybe the lady at the end had previously eaten a mermaid and got powers that way. The game is also based in a ship under water which is where mermaids live.

If the nomes are a play on the slang word "nom" which refers to eating what if the Maw is a play on the word "ma" which refers to mother. This further implies that the Lady is Six's mother. Kind of like Darth Vader is Luke's father and in german "vater" means father.

My Theory: It is set in a world with 4 species in a tight food chain: Rats, Gnomes, Humans, and Giants. However breaking this chain results in the person receiving a large amount of power, either literally or figuratively. The lady and the hanging man are humans who avoided being eaten long enough to take over the maw, the janitor was a human who performed cannibalism, the chefs are giants who managed to learn to prepare food instead of just consuming, the leeches and the shoe crawler were rats that learnt to catch gnomes and humans, and Six became so powerful because she worked her way up the food chain one by one The Maw acted as a nexus for these tradeoffs of power and actually had no set infrastructure, instead ships just came and dropped off members of all four species, which then organized themselves into a hierarchy through instinct. Also I think that the lady and Six were actually just small links in an endless cycle where a child would wake up, ate their way through the maw, and eventually take out whoever is on top, inheriting their power and their position, meaning that Six eventually becomes the lady until the next one. Also also maybe the reason the lady sent her child away was because she reminded her so much of her 9 yr old self. Also also also maybe she is called Six is because she is the sixth lady so far.

Soooooo i have a theory Six is the lady's daughter and right there are guests on the maw and if the guests have children with them the children will be put in a room with toys. Sometimes the children will be Fed or will be Starved and if a child is fat it will be given to the twin chefs and the twin chefs will chop the children so it can be given to the Parents so thats why six doesn't eat human food cause she might get fat and then the twin chefs will chop her and thats why Six only eating humans gnomes etc. And when Six ate her mother (the lady) she gained her mother's power to suck souls and she might be the Sixth lady... I really like your video and theory, and here my opinion... I don´t think Six is a human, or at least of the same species as the children who appear in the game. I think she is the same species as The Lady. (I don´t know if customers are human or otherwise) The reason I believe this is because of the unnatural size of Six, compared to children, despite being of the same age, the sudden hunger strikes that she has (At least we know, that human hunger is different, If we consider "reality"), and her obvious relationship with The Lady. I don´t know if Six is ​​the daughter, or the little sister, of The Lady... But it is clear that they are related in more than one way: - When Six has a nightmare at the beginning of the game, it's about The Lady. - There is a portrait of Six in the Lady's room, which is off the wall (although it was hung until recently) and covered. - The reason that Six knew the location of the room of the Lady, where was the key to open the only place where there was an intact mirror. - And that Six knew the weakness of The Lady with the mirrors. And I agree with your theory that Six fled, in the hope of fleeing The Maw, it´s "eaters" principles, and her future destiny... But I don´t think that she "succumbed." Yes, she submerged the darkness with her hunger... But she never ate children's meat, and in the ending, she went to the exit killing all the "customers"... I would like to think that Six succumbed to her dark nature, but her ideals remain intact, and she doesn´t plan to direct The Maw (If she decides to stay there, instead of leaving, since no one can stop her now) in the same way that The Lady planned, serving children to eat... Although this is more of a hope, since we still don´t know the relationship of The Lady and the "clients", it was also a duty of the leader to assassinate them for give the welcome to more, or not... I hope not to be wrong.

The only other children I see are in the cages that the janitor used to trap Six. But they don't seem like they would be nothing but a snack. I don't think they have enough meat on there bones to make up the sausage and steak that is the primary meal for the guests.

Good point... Although the janitor sent packaged children to the kitchen... Maybe the meat of children is considered luxury... And they don´t give it just like that. Without speaking, you remember the room of the shoes, all those were shoes of children along with their previous possessions. I think there are many more children that we don´t see in the game... Then, whether they are eaten or not... I think that is most logical, since they were packaged as meat, and sent to the kitchen, but you are right, that serve more food other than human flesh... Likewise the children's meat is considered the most luxurious (When they see Six, customers put aside their food, and try to gobble it up immediately (If we consider Six a "normal girl")) ... In the event that children are not eaten... What do you think they do with them?

What I'm guessing here is that Six wasn't human at all and was an juvenile version of whatever monstrosity the Lady is. I figure the creatures eat their mothers to gain their shadowy powers and the Lady-not wanting to go along with this-decided to just toss whatever children she had down into the depths of the maw to get out of doing so. Six, is actually the sixth child she's sent to die. I could try and make the argument that the guy who's seen hanging in the first section of the game was the one in charge of jailing the Lady's spawn but that seems like a stretch.

Maybe this is out of topic but I have a mini theory about the young girls in the paintings, the ones you see to get the key in The Lady’s room, I feel like The Lady had girl twins that surpassed her own beauty and she got rid of them by sending them to the prison. One of the paintings shows a little girl with short hair and a yellow dress (Six), the other one that we see better is a little girl with long hair and a pink dress (probably Six’s sister?) I came up with this theory when in the DLC secrets of the Maw, a little girl tries to escape but knowing where she was going, fitting with the exact same characteristics as the painting of the pink dress girl, sadly, she is killed by The Granny and putted in a bag as the other children.

the devs confirmed that six and the lady aren't related, in my theory I don't think six is the lady's daughter, in very little nightmares the main protagonist you are playing with is the lady's daughter her daughter ran away from the maw I dont know why she did that but she probably did that for a reason. The ferry man brought six to the maw mistakenly thinking that shes the lady's daughter, the lady saw six wearing the same raincoat like her daughter had on. The lady got mad that six was wearing her daughters raincoat and tried to kill six because she was wearing her daughters raincoat, the lady tried to kill six but despite of losing the fight she lets six eat her when she gets defeated by six I might be wrong though. (I know this may sound confusing to some of you guys but this is just a theory it's not confirmed yet)
