AMEN! My ex kept asking me what he could do to change my mind, so I sent him this song and told him this was just a small part of my decision to leave. That was 11 years ago and he's still trying to figure out a way to "make it work"..."I'll do anything"...if he'd have been a better man back then, we'd still be together, but I'd never go back to the toxicity, nor will I tolerate being treated the way he treated me!!!

Because,of this song I gained the confidence to break off a 7 year relationship with a verbally abusive alcoholic. I did so today because of this song. I listened to it over and over again. until I gained the confidence to break it off. Thank you for helping me realize that all I have is my pride.

My ex wife used to play this song in the background and I never really listened to it.. till I took her on a family trip, to Korea, and then she left me after. This song kept popping up to me and I finally listened to it.. then I have listened to it dozens and dozens of times.. it helped me cry the pain away but also help me be a better man. So now, 4 years later I am a better man but still love this song. So this is to my ex wife. Your prayers were answered but years later.. I'm sorry but bless you and your family now!

Wow, after spending 22 years with an abusive husband and father of my two children, this really hits home I ran from him, running away from my home and everything to escape the abuse that I had grown strong enough to overcome. Now years later, he and I are friends and I miss him, but I am not gonna cross that bridge again, cause like the song says,,, he still needs to be a better man, where I am concerned. I just think there are some bridges once crossed are better left behind. I LOVE THIS.

Ignoring all of the romantic lyrics and themes in this, this song actually describes pretty well how I feel about my dad. I genuinely wish he was a better man. This song really captures how we can't just turn off our love for people, even when they're so bad for us. I had to move away from my parents before I could begin to heal my relationship with my dad. If you need to do the same with someone, please know that it's not always weakness to walk away. Like the song says, sometimes the bravest thing you can do is run.

I found that better man. Everyone deserves someone who hugs and kisses you at night, misses you when you're gone, doesn't have to be flowers and chocolates, but someone who appreciates you. If it starts to not feel right, as much as it hurts, its better to leave before it becomes violent. There will be a better man around the corner.

So true - I broke up with my boyfriend two weeks ago. He had a lot of mental issues when I met him but he was working through them and on the right track. I thought he was it, that we would get married and I was so happy, then two months ago things started to spiral, he was manipulative and angry and aggressive and I left. He's now blaming me for his life de-railing, but he wasn't looking after himself any more and I can't help someone who won't help themselves. He texted me after the breakup saying that he was sorry that he didn't appreciate me when he had me and he wished me the best. This song sums up everything for me right now.

And then later on, I'm like, I really do miss SOME things about him, and now I'm really alone, and even the most independent person out there does NOT like to be alone all the time!!! This song means more to me than I could adequately put into words. I first heard it just as it became clear that I needed to walk away from a toxic relationship, and the words gave voice to feelings I couldn't express. Although it's taken me a while to break free (and in my heart I'm still not totally free) this song gave me the courage to do "the bravest thing I ever did". It's been a year now and I still feel weak and addicted to the time it felt like magic, but I hear this song and I know I'm better off on my own. Thank you, Taylor, for masterfully putting into words what I could not, and to Kimberly, Karen, Jimi, and Philip, for making it into such achingly beautiful music. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is why they say music changes people. Song of the Year? More like song of a decade.

Taylor is a Genius when it comes to song writing. She has a way of making you feel that the song was wrote especially for you. I have given the same man more times than I care to admit. 45 yrs 4 sons and 8 grandkids and I literally, physically, mentally and emotionally CAN NOT TAKE ANOTHER DAY. Which truly sucks because I know he could be a better man. He was great in the beginning but all the cheating and lying changed him into someone I don't even know anymore 💔🖤

I'm currently going through the hardest thing I've ever gone through. My boyfriend and love of 3years cheated on me many times and i had to leave, and I am very much struggling. It's been weeks since and today is the first day I've even listened to music. This song explains exactly what I am going through. I gave him everything you could give to someone and he proved not to be a good man. I am so thankful to have heard this song. I am doing this all on my own and this song really helped me remember what I deserve. Some days are easier than others but I'm thankful God played this song for me today.

This music video is gorgeous in every way, from the lyrics and singing to the cinematography. I love the contrast between past and present, the way it feels like history is repeating itself as we get an insight of her dad's mind. The details are also so clever; the cup on the sink along with the dirty dishes later dripping coffee, the watch on the table being on her dad's wrist, the wedding ring left alone and the different shots of each character running across the field, hesitantly looking behind like they know they have to leave but it tears them apart to do so. Brilliant, I wish I'd seen this sooner!

Donna, the truth of the matter is that in my opinion, one does not have to be so "politically correct" in their statements about specifics. Sure, they may have been recognized in 2012 as Maz Max said and I apologize to him for my error. But I strongly feel that this "Incredible Band," has been overlooked so many times that they could have been honored and it would literally bother me because I didn't understand why? I feel your support and greatly appreciate the fact that there is another person or maybe many who can vouch for the Way we feel about them. I just became baffled at the fact of the nominations, stating their worth to the "Country Music" industry but never really allowing them to be a winner in any award category, (possibly my error Maz Max.) It makes me feel better knowing I was wrong but I just remember what I remember and that does not see them being recognized for their "Full Potential," as a true "Country Music Band." I do hope you are right Donna because this song deserved recognition as so many others have. The difference being that this song sounds "Country," when today, most "Country " songs do not. Please don't get me wrong. I like the direction that Keith Urban and many others have taken Country Music. In speaking of Keith Urban, he is another who has not been recognized for his full potential. Peace to 'You" Donna!

Simran M The song is amazing for sure. However, Taylor Swift wrote/composed the song, not just the lyrics. Taylor sent the finished song to Little Big Town for them to have a listen and decide if they wanted to cut it or not. People do not understand that Taylor is quite the musician as well and is often mistaken as being the type of artist that only contributes the odd lyric here and there. If that were the case Taylor Swift would be spelled C-A-R-R-I-E U-N-D-E-R-W-O-O-D!!!

This song use to be me and my husband. He didn’t even know I was there and yes it hurt. It was like I was married and single. A single mother with benefits. I felt used and robbed of 13 years. After a while we breaker for a while then once he understood what he lost 5 Kids and wife. Things weren’t so easy.! We found a way to fix our love and now we’re strong and happy... can’t believe that was a chapter in my life.! Thank god🙏🏼☝🏼

Yes Taylor did a great job writing the song but you people are just overlooking these amazing vocals by my favorite band ever their talent is undeniable! Karen Fairchild is a ANGEL and she Kimberly, Jimi and Philip KILLED this track and Video!! Please it's fine to be happy that Taylor wrote it but show them some respect as well!

Rhett Butler Good point! The lyrics are very reminiscent of Fearless-Speak Now. But the harmonies for the song were perfected by the band. I mean, Tay even said she thought of Little Big Town when she wrote it. I can completely understand why, especially during the chorus...

Yes,Taylor Swift wrote it,but she wanted to give it to Little big Town because she must have thought that they would do a better job than she would do with it,i also write songs and lyrics, they are always special...Little big town is an amazing group. They admit publicly that Karen Fairchild is their leader, that is so rare and beautiful.

Listening to this while going through a divorce. Been together since we were kids, 14 years old. Now 23, with a daughter… and the bravest thing I did was run… it’s not easy. I’m heartbroken, “.. a man who could change his mind in any given minute”.. to be honest. I can quote every word in this song. Couldn’t relate to something better
