One day, I was walking to the liquor store to buy cigarettes, my wife just told me that she was pregnant and I didn't know how to be a Dad, I lost mine due lung cancer when I was 8, yes he smoked, that day I didn't choose to quit, I choose to challenge myself to see how long I can make a pack of cigarettes last... That day I had only one cigarette, that was the last cigarette I ever had, my son just celebrated his 11 year... And he still has a dad... 😊

10 yrs of my drinking and 3 yrs of chain smoking habit is now under control. I still can have a drink or two without hurting me much. I still can go with a packet of cigarettes a day or even none. I don't get the cravings anymore but i can take it whenever i want under full control but i don't do it anymore. I also started going to gym, reduced my sugar cravings and learned to eat healthy foods. I believe once u start caring for urself and get disciplined, u start to see the opportunities and other good things around u. I still haven't achieved anything big with my career, don't have a partner or a family and I'm all by myself through these years but i believe it will happen soon because i feel stronger than before

Self discipline is key,you don't stop bad habits because of someone else,you stop them for you,I used to drink myself off and get home very late drunk and wasted,one day I said to myself,'enough',I've never touched the bottle since then and I have accomplished so much,we are stronger than we know,just find yourself

Eating until we're full is what we usually do, but eating until we are satiated (no longer hungry) is better. Eating beyond fullness is gluttony.
@jambo_jackbelly Жыл бұрын
In my experience, the feeling of being full isn't necessarily the best indicator of when to stop eating. A measured approach based on the size of the meal and its nutrition content is usually the best approach. Eat a balanced meal that is healthy and the correct amount of calories and you may still feel very hungry and unfulfilled, but if you stop and resist the urge for more food. In 10-15 minutes you will stop feeling hungry and feel full.

The right thing is to eat till you feel about 80 % full. We can’t measure how full we are but the thing is to eat and stop at the point when you feel you are about to get full or satisfied.

I lack a lot of things i see in these self help videos. But i have persistence and have been so lucky that I have been waking up to try again. It's so amazing that within 24 hours we get to try again and try something different or do the same thing better. I haven't counted all the years and days where i have failed, those were time learning. Sure, maybe i need more classes than others. But I will keep repeating the process and find something that clicks. i know that is the formula to succees. Nothing else matters. When that day arrives i will go back to the video that resonated with me and leave a comment

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 *🧠 Building Self-Discipline: Introduction to Stoic Lessons* - Self-discipline is crucial for success and emotional control. - The video presents seven stoic lessons for building strong self-discipline. 00:15 *💪 Lesson 1: The Battle Against Pleasure* - Self-discipline involves avoiding excess to prevent unnecessary suffering and negative consequences. - Abstinence and restraint are not the same; restraint focuses on moderation and balanced approaches. - Self-discipline prioritizes the mind over the body, aiming to avoid temporary distractions and pleasures. 02:27 *🥊 Lesson 2: Seek Discomfort* - Voluntarily subjecting oneself to discomfort builds resilience and perspective. - Challenging oneself through discomfort prepares individuals to handle tough times and adapt to change. - Seeking discomfort toughens individuals and makes them less fearful of challenges. 05:32 *💡 Lesson 3: Quit Being a Slave* - Breaking free from habits and addictions empowers individuals to take control of their lives. - Choosing to quit harmful habits is a personal decision that reflects self-value and prioritizes health. - It's never too late to beat bad habits and reclaim control over one's life. 08:40 *💰 Lesson 4: Avoid the Extra* - Embracing minimalism and simplicity reduces vulnerability and dependence on material possessions. - Living a simple life with fewer desires leads to greater freedom, self-control, and resilience. - Minimalism protects individuals from becoming slaves to their desires and external pressures. 11:39 *🐢 Lesson 5: Slow Down to Go Faster* - Progress doesn't always require rushing; disciplined pacing ensures steady and consistent advancement. - Moving slowly but efficiently allows for proper attention to detail and prevents burnout. - Hustling involves getting things done properly and effectively, even if it means taking a slower approach. 13:14 *⚖️ Lesson 6: The Difficult Life is the Best Life* - Embracing challenges and hardships leads to personal growth, resilience, and achievement. - Prioritizing physical activity and health empowers individuals to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. - The tough life, though demanding, offers greater rewards and fulfillment compared to a life of indulgence and laziness. 16:52 *🤫 Lesson 7: Silence is Strength* - Mastering self-discipline includes knowing when to speak and when to remain silent. - Utilizing silence strategically empowers individuals to maintain control, avoid unnecessary conflicts, and make a significant impact with fewer words. - Resisting the urge to constantly engage in discussions or share opinions allows for greater focus, clarity, and influence. Of all the self help stuff,recovery from addiction literature and programs, this particular," Little Bit Better," episode is the best blueprint for successfully overcoming any addiction or obsession I have ever heard. It cuts through all the B's and gets right down to self discipline being extremely crucial for survival and success and happiness. Less is more really fits.

I agree with Seneca’s sentiments, but the issue with his 3 days “hardship” was he had the comfort of returning to his riches at any moment. The poor and misfortunate don’t have the same ability and this is where suffering begins. People can’t even begin to fathom a life of comfort because they have never seen, felt and generally experienced it.

Hey There!!,Thanks for sharing these powerful Stoic lessons! 🙌 Discipline truly is the key to success. Learning to say no to immediate pleasures for long-term gains is a game-changer. Seneca's idea of seeking discomfort for growth resonated with me. It's amazing how embracing challenges builds resilience. Quitting bad habits, like Eisenhower did with smoking, shows the strength of the mind over the body. Kato and Ruben Carter's minimalist approach is a refreshing perspective in our consumer-driven world. Octavian's journey teaches us the value of disciplined pacing. And, of course, silence is strength - a timely reminder in our noisy world. 🤫 Thanks again for the wisdom! 🌟

I walk down the hill to the bus 1 1/4 miles one way, And back up with groceries in my granny cart. I walk a lot even after that. Between the bus stop and where I am going. I am much stronger here than when I move in. Just like Paul who went to prison. The Roman Emperor imprisoned him for spreading the Gospel. He didn’t stop preaching Jesus even though he was in prison. He wasn’t materialistic. He did what he thought God wanted him to do. Then did what God did want him to do. He lost his life. He went to his reward

Every time I put the alarm early and when I don't feel like it I change it, now that's a problem that Im struggling to solve. Any advice?
@hoosierbaddy30529 ай бұрын
Stop living IN the problem. Become part of the solution. Einstein said that no problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it. Henry Ford said that people spend more time and energy going around a problem than in actually solving it. There ya go. Two astute individuals are telling us to get outta the problem area of the brain. Soak yourself in the solution. Personal example of solutions in action. I needed a ride to the hospital for a procedure. My mom and her friend slept thru my 5:30 a.m. check in. I could have stayed home and bemoaned the fact that no one cared enough to get up for me. Or… Instead of perpetuating the problem, I drove myself there and let them hammer out the details of picking me up. We have two cars. So, now it became THEIR problem. I felt SO good giving myself a lift to the hospital. That’s an example of switching problems to remedies. It is sometimes a bit of a leap to change gears. But it’s the only solution for problems. Get rid of your alarm clock if it bugs you. Quit changing up the times to try and fix it. It ain’t working huh? It’s Einstein’s definition of insanity to keep trying things that don’t work the first time.
