Buttercup. She’s so pretty. Love her color. One of the things I like most about YT is that variety of farm practices that all seem to work even though they’re very different from each other. I recently started watching a family named Zimmerman. She puts her calf’s on the bottle as soon as they are born. I forget why but her cow did have twins and maybe that’s why.

Yay, congratulations! Your new little calf is so adorable. What about calling her Sunny or Summer? Rachel on “That 1870’s Homestead” has a recipe for collard green that she cans and it looks yummy. Fern sounds so perfect for her! Chelsea, I have little bits of berries trickling in. Instead of freezing them I opted to make a berry sauce so good lightly heated and on vanilla ice cream! I have rasps - both golden and red, black and blue berries plus a few strawberries - bring to a boil, reduce heat to a low simmer, crush berries w potato masher add sweetener to taste and simmer about 15 mins. I canned mine. Oh my!

I wash the collards stack them up. Roll them up into a tube cut them up in about half to a quarter inch strips get you a big pot cut some bacon up put it in the bottom of the pot. Put them college over in there and cook them sometimes If I have a pod of okra I’ll cut it up and put it in the pot and maybe some sliced jalapeños just if you like spicy and okra, when the collards gets tender, put them in a quart jar you could even freeze them put them in a Ziploc bag and freeze them. That’s why we cook our in Mississippi. You could just cut them into strips and freeze them in gallon bags then cook them like I said when you take them out. To be honest Collards are better when the frost gets on them.

You don’t have any of that ointment that all you can get from the veterinarian it’s for cuts sores I would put it on my pigs if they got a cut or sore cows too.I had donkey got a hold of one of my pigs, younger pigs, and bit it which cause abscess I put some of that ointment on that pigs, shoulder, and the next day it looked like it had healed over. I was good oh grief that that was quick.

What a cute calf. Thank you for taking the time to explain what happened to Thistle’s (sp?) teat and what you would do to help. I always wondered what happened if a cow gave birth and the calf didn’t nurse … now I know the teat can split. :) You packed in a lot of great information in this video.
